New photos have leaked from the set of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  This is the fourth batch of set photos to hit the Internet in less than a week, and I’m sure we can expect plenty more as the production continues its outdoor filming in the weeks and months ahead.  These new photos show Peter (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen (Emma Stone) strolling around Chinatown, and that’s about all you’re going to get from these images.  We’ll let you know if Gwen Stacy is spotted on top of a bridge.

Hit the jump to check out the set photos.  The film also stars Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Shaileen Woodley, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, Chris Cooper, Sally Field, and Martin SheenThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.

Paul Giamatti in Talks to Play Rhino in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2; Felicity Jones May Join Film

If this didn’t come from The Hollywood Reporter, I would assume it was a joke.  Paul Giamatti is reportedly in talks to play the Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  For those unfamiliar with comics or the English language, Rhino is a hulking character who rams into stuff.  I’m dubious about the quality of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but if Giamatti has to bulk up to play the role, the sequel will be worth it.  I can’t even wrap my mind around a muscular Giamatti.  Of course, just because Rhino is a physically imposing character in the comics, it doesn’t mean the movie will go the same way.  Rhino is the second villain on board following Electro, who will be played by Jamie Foxx.

Hit the jump for more including Giamatti talking with Conan O’Brien (who referenced our interview with the actor from 2011) about wanting to play Rhino plus news about Felicity Jones joining the cast.  The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, and Shailene WoodleyThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due out on May 2, 2014.  Filming is set to begin in February.

All of the Deleted Scenes from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

A couple weeks ago, a couple of deleted scenes from The Amazing Spider-Man went online.  The scenes helped to better understand Peter Parker’s origin and clear up some of the ambiguities of the original film.  Now, with the Blu-ray/DVD set to be released on November 9th, all of the deleted scenes have leaked out.  Most of the deleted scenes focus on Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), so if you were looking for more explanation of the movie’s inconsistencies and plot holes, you won’t find them here.  However, they do make Connors a more sympathetic character, so I can understand why these scenes were shot but later cut.

Unused Costume Designs and Concept Art for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

by     Posted 1 year, 290 days ago

I love concept art books because you can see the evolution of a design and see all the roads not taken.  A big production like The Amazing Spider-Man goes through thousands of designs as artists draw out their ideas for the sets, costumes, creatures, props, and other good stuff.  Today, some unused costume designs and concept art has landed online.  The costumes design is fascinating because one costume is remarkably similar to the outfit from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, and the other two are radically different from anything we’ve seen (especially the mask and spider emblem).  As for the concept art, it’s a different look at the Lizard, and while I’m not sure if it would have translated to a three-dimensional model, I like that it looks less humanoid than the final version.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Confirmed as First in Trilogy; Plus Was Spidey’s True Origin Edited Out of the Film?

Amongst the massive amount of unbridled enthusiasm for The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, it seemed for a bit that Sony’s reboot The Amazing Spider-Man might hit theaters with little fanfare.  The pic finally premiered this past Tuesday to a record-setting $35 million and fairly positive reviews, and though we won’t know the full box office impact until later this weekend, the film is certainly off to a promising start.  With a healthy box office take, a sequel for The Amazing Spider-Man is all but guaranteed (writers were recently hired to perform a rewrite of James Vanderbilt’s follow-up screenplay).  Now an official message from Sony confirms what we already knew: The Amazing Spider-Man is the first in a planned trilogy.

Hit the jump for much more, including evidence that a great deal of Spidey’s origin was cut out of The Amazing Spider-Man at the last minute, and the possible inclusion of the Sinister Six in further films.  Beware, MAJOR SPOILERS for The Amazing Spider-Man follow.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Review

by     Posted 1 year, 294 days ago

review-the-amazing-spider-man-slice-2

The Amazing Spider-Man is intended to be a new origin story about a powerless kid who got superpowers and became hero.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t know which origin story to tell, nor does it understand what it means to be “powerless”.  Wrapped up in the notion of being “grittier” and “realistic”, Marc Webb‘s reboot attempts to spin a fresh new vision for the wall-crawler, but it constantly forgets the story its trying to tell by getting tangled up in lazy coincidences and idiotic character motivations.  The film’s problems are further compounded by the woefully miscast Andrew Garfield, who carries the sweet, good-hearted nature of Peter Parker, but none of the powerlessness that makes us root for him.  What works in the film—the visuals, set pieces, the performances, and the score—work wonderfully, but everything else in the movie is far from amazing.

New Posters for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, V/H/S, and PITCH PERFECT

New posters for The Amazing Spider-Man, the horror anthology V/H/S, and the a capella sing-off movie Pitch Perfect have gone online.  The Spidey poster is the first one to play up the romance angle between the wall-crawler (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), the V/H/S poster is kind of clever (click here for my review of the film), and Pitch Perfect‘s poster in no way tells you what the movie is about.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3rd.  V/H/S hits VOD on August 31st before hitting theaters on October 5th.  Pitch Perfect opens October 5th.
