Zack Snyder Teases BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN’s New Batmobile

With production on Batman vs. Superman about to ramp up, the official marketing is about to begin.  On his twitter feed, director Zack Snyder provided a little peek at the new Batmobile…and it looks a lot of like the old Batmobile.  It’s the form-follows-function, military-style, run-over-anything-and-everything-in-Gotham Batmobile, which is fine.  Snyder is following the “realistic” model, so we’re probably going to get a Batmobile that’s similar to what we saw in The Dark Knight trilogy.  While I find the pre-marketing here kind of obnoxious (either show us the Batmobile or don’t), it’s an encouraging sign that the production will take the initiative on reveals and let us see official images before they leak out through set photos.

Hit the jump to check out a peek of the Batman vs. Superman Batmobile; Snyder hints that the full image will be released tomorrow.  The film stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, Ray Fisher, and Laurence Fishburne.

Though it’s not exactly odd that director Zack Snyder’s follow-up to Man of Steel hasn’t yet settled on an official title (it’s currently being referred to as Batman vs. Superman), I’m starting to wonder if they already know what the title will be and are keeping it under wraps.  Something along the lines of Justice League, perhaps?  The reason being that this cast is very much starting to resemble something more akin to a Justice League movie rather than a Superman-focused sequel, especially with today’s latest casting news.  In addition to Henry Cavill’s Superman, the film already has Ben Affleck set to play Batman and Gal Gadot onboard as Wonder Woman, and now Broadway actor Ray Fisher has been tapped to play Cyborg, yet another member of the Justice League.  Hit the jump for more.

It’s been two months since we heard any casting news on Batman vs. Superman (unofficial title).  The most recent piece of casting was Jesse Eisenberg for Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons for Alfred.  With the movie gearing up to film this quarter, three new actors have been added to the cast.  According to Deadline, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), and Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) have joined the film to play new characters.  However, there are no details about those characters at this time.

Hit the jump for a brief recap of what else we know about the movie.  The film also stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne.  The untitled Batman/Superman movie opens May 6, 2016.

Zack Snyder Talks BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN and Fan Reaction to Casting; Says the Film “Explodes” the Batman and Superman Universes

Most people expected the first sequel from filmmaker Zack Snyder to be a follow-up to his 2005 film 300.  Instead, as 300: Rise of an Empire (which he co-wrote and produced) is about to hit theaters, Snyder is currently knee-deep in prep on the highly anticipated follow-up to last year’s Superman reboot Man of Steel.  Not only does the film continue the adventures of Warner Bros.’ brand new Superman franchise, but it also reboots the Batman franchise and kicks off the DC Cinematic Universe at the same time.  There would be immense pressure in tackling any one of those feats alone, but Snyder appears giddy at the prospect of juggling all three.

Though most have been tight-lipped about what we can expect from the untitled Man of Steel follow-up (aka Batman vs. Superman), Snyder recently gave a status update on the film and bluntly addressed fan criticisms about some of his casting choices.  Read on after the jump.

While we continue to wait with bated breath for some official casting news concerning the new Star Wars film, Warner Bros. has just dropped a bomb by announcing the casting of both Lex Luthor and Alfred in director Zack Snyder’s Batman-infused follow-up to Man of Steel.  The incredibly talented Jesse Eisenberg will be playing the villainous Luthor in the untitled Batman vs. Superman film, while Jeremy Irons will be assuming the role of Batman’s trusted companion Alfred.  Hit the jump to read on.

TOP 5: JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT Set Visit, Marvel One-Shot ALL HAIL THE KING, MUPPETS MOST WANTED Set Visit, BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, Oscar Beat

Available via Netflix Watch Instantly as of late December, last weekend I finally got the chance to check out writer/director Joe Swanberg‘s romantic comedy Drinking Buddies. I should disclaim that it’s near impossible for me to be objective when talking about Swanberg given that he’s a fellow Southern Illinois University alum and few things make me prouder than a Saluki film student enjoying success in the industry. That out of the way, I enjoyed the heck out of Drinking Buddies. Much has been made of the film’s stellar cast and I won’t try and dispute those claims at all. As someone who has never watched a minute of Fox’s New Girl, I loved Jake Johnson‘s turn in the pic and I bought he and Olivia Wilde‘s romantic chemistry hook, line, and sinker. As for Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston? Lets just say that I love each of them in almost everything and this is no exception. All in all, Buddies is a funny, sweet, realistic teetering on the verge of understated look at the universal concept of being just friends.

Instant stream recommendations aside, this week’s Top 5 includes our Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit set visit coverage, the first look at the Marvel One-Shot All Hail the King starring Ben Kingsley, a set visit recap for Muppets Most Wanted, some villain rumors surrounding Batman vs. Superman, and Adam’s latest installment of Oscar Beat that breaks down the guild nods and what they could mean for Oscar season. Like you might expect, a brief recap and link to each of the above can be found after the jump.

Filming on Batman vs. Superman will be underway soon, and that means the rumor mill is about to change.  Right now, we’re operating in almost complete darkness.  We know some casting and that’s about it.  But once the cameras start rolling and set photos start leaking, a new picture begins begin to emerge, one with its own special brand of speculation and confusion.  But before we reach that point, there are four new rumors to chew on regarding the highly-anticipated superhero movie.  First, while Lex Luthor hasn’t been confirmed for the upcoming sequel, most fans are betting on seeing the chrome-domed menace challenging the Man of Steel.  However, Batman-on-Film is reporting that while Luthor will be in the movie, there’s another villain in the mix as well.  His sources also say that the second villain will not be one of Batman’s baddies.

Hit the jump for more including the size of Wonder Woman’s role.  The film stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Laurence FishburneBatman vs. Superman (unofficial title) opens July 17, 2015.

For the third year in a row I find myself looking through previous Top 5 installments on the last Saturday of the year, trying to whittle the hundreds of stories I’ve covered in the past 52 weeks down to the five that I find most interesting, important, popular, etc. At its most basic, this is just an exercise of further reducing a list that I’ve been trimming and prepping on a weekly basis all year long. That’s likely the most boring/tedious way of looking at it, but true nonetheless.

At its best, I see the “End of the Year Edition” as a Collider time capsule of sorts. A snapshot that is in no way comprehensive enough to properly acknowledge the amount of time, work, thought, travel, money, etc. that goes into making this site what it is. And yet, representative enough of our content as a whole that someone who stumbles upon it can see what we were trying to accomplish: to cover the things that we’re passionate about in the most interesting and sincere way possible and to completely and utterly dominate the Internet by way of Star Wars and superhero movie casting rumors. Keep reading for the five stories/pieces of content that in many ways defined our 2013.

Costume Designer Michael Wilkinson Says They’re Finalizing the Costumes for BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Finalizing costume designs is matter-of-course for any blockbuster.  They go through hundreds of designs for main characters, and then those costumes are subjected to various tweaks and tests.  Something that looks good on the page may not work in three dimensions due to poor visual quality, constrictive movements, or other issues.  So this isn’t really newsworthy except it comes from Batman vs. Superman, but some fans need to know every little detail no matter how minor.

Hit the jump for what Zack Snyder‘s longtime costume designer Michael Wilkinson had to say about the costumes.  The film stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Lawrence Fishburne, and possibly Jason Momoa and Joaquin PhoenixBatman vs. Superman opens July 17, 2015.

Jason Momoa in Talks to Join BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

While Jason Momoa came very close to landing a role in the Marvel Movie Universe by way of Guardians of the Galaxy’s Drax the Destroyer, the part ultimately ended up going to David Bautista.  No matter, it now looks like Momoa will get his shot at a big superhero movie, as he has apparently entered talks to join the cast of director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel follow-up Batman vs. Superman.  Warner Bros. recently announced that Gal Gadot will fill the role of Wonder Woman in the pic, and now that Snyder and producers have turned their attention to casting the film’s villain, it’s possible that Momoa could be playing the DC pic’s Big Bad.  Hit the jump for more.

Amy Adams Says BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Films in February; Didn’t Know Wonder Woman Had Been Cast or Was in the Film

It’s not too often you get to tell one of the stars of a huge franchise like Man of Steel casting news, but that’s what happened earlier today when I interviewed Amy Adams for director David O. Russell’s American Hustle.  For whatever reason, I was one of her first interviews, and towards the end of our conversation I tried to ask when she knew Wonder Woman (being played by Gal Gadot) would be in Batman vs. Superman.  However, as I was asking the question, she revealed she didn’t know the character would be in the film or that the role had been cast.   But even though she didn’t know, Adams said it was “awesome” news and she “hoped she gets a scene with her.”   While she didn’t know the casting news, she confirmed the sequel starts to film in February, which makes sense, since the sequel hits theaters in the summer of 2015 and they need plenty of time in post production for the effects.

Hit the jump to watch Adams talk about the Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman., and look for the full interview soon.

300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE Star Callan Mulvey Eyed for Villain Role in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Warner Bros. is making moves on Batman vs. Superman.  The studio just announced that Fast & Furious star Gal Gadot will be playing Wonder Woman opposite Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman in the film, and now it appears they have their sights set on casting the pic’s villain.  Though the working title would lead us to believe that Batman and Superman’s relationship will at one point be contentious, the film will also have a proper villain.  Now that Wonder Woman is set, director Zack Snyder can focus on casting that role, and one of the contenders is reportedly Callan Mulvey.

Gal Gadot to Play Wonder Woman in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our Wonder Woman.  It’s been clear that Warner Bros. is ramping up its DC presence in the upcoming Man of Steel follow-up Batman vs. Superman, and rumors have swirled that Wonder Woman would be introduced in the film along with Ben Affleck’s Batman and a few other comics characters.  A report surfaced last month that Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion), Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), and Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) were auditioning for the female lead in director Zack Snyder’s upcoming film, but the nature of the role was being kept under wraps.  Well now not only do we know which actress won the role, but also that the identity of the character is indeed Wonder Woman.  Hit the jump for more.

Warner Bros. Registers other Possible Titles for BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

superman-vs-batman-worlds-finest-logo-slice

We’ve been referring to Zack Snyder‘s upcoming Man of Steel sequel as “Batman vs. Superman” for simplicity and consistency’s sake, but it’s important to know that Warner Bros. hasn’t officially confirmed a title for the highly-anticipated superhero movie.  The studio could go in a different direction, and they’ve recently registered eight possible titles through the internet brand protection company MarkMonitor.  They’re all pretty terrible, and I doubt they’ll be used.  Sometimes studios make these registrations as a defense against those who would want to capitalize on a precious brand.

Hit the jump to read the titles.  The officially untitled Man of Steel sequel opens July 17, 2015.

Adam Driver Addresses the Rumor He Might Be Nightwing in BATMAN vs. SUPERMAN

A few days ago we reported Nightwing is set to make his live-action feature film debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman, and Warner Bros. was eyeing Adam Driver (Girls) for the part.  Supposedly, Driver is the frontrunner for the role, which is described as being Batman/Bruce Wayne’s (Ben Affleck) estranged partner, Dick Grayson.  Grayson took on the Nightwing moniker to go off on his own crime-fighting adventures after being taken under Batman’s wing as his side-kick, Robin, but this new iteration finds the former dynamic duo apart for a number of years, and it remains to be seen just how frosty the relationship is between the the Dark Knight and his former protege.

So when I sat down with Driver during the press junket for the Coen Brothers awesome movie, Inside Llewyn Davis (Driver has a small but memorable role), I asked him about the rumor.  Hit the jump for what he said.
