Watch: Martin Freeman Stars in SNL’s Fantastic THE HOBBIT/THE OFFICE Crossover Short

by     Posted 6 days ago

When Andy Samberg and the rest of The Lonely Island left Saturday Night Live a few years ago (Samberg as a cast member, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone as writers), it signaled the end of the show’s fantastic run of Digital Shorts.  While those offbeat, incredibly funny videos are certainly missed, SNL has actually done a swell job of creating different, worthwhile pre-taped content in recent years.  Last week’s episode gave us the SNL gang’s take on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, and during last night’s Martin Freeman-hosted episode, we got possibly one of the best pre-taped segments yet: a crossover between The Hobbit and the British version of The Office.  Freeman plays Bilbo/Tim in the video, with Bobby Moynihan filling the role of Gandalf/David Brent and Taran Killam giving us an unforgettable portrayal of Gollum/Gareth.  This whole thing is executed to perfection, and fans of either The Hobbit or The Office aren’t likely to be disappointed by the results.

Watch: SNL Takes on the STAR WARS Trailer with Elderly Han, Luke, and Leia

by     Posted 13 days ago

It wasn’t necessarily a surprise given that the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer debut was a massive cultural event, but last night’s James Franco-hosted episode of Saturday Night Live premiered its own version of the Star Wars trailer.  The crux of the joke is that the returning cast members (whom we didn’t glimpse in the official trailer) are all quite old now, and SNL’s take on their return is pretty great.  Taran Killam’s “old Harrison Ford” voice is spot on, and Bobby Moynihan makes for a swell “old Leia”.  Seeing as how it will be a while until we see another official Star Wars trailer (probably attached to Avengers: Age of Ultron), this’ll do for now.

UNDERDOGS Voice Cast Includes Ariana Grande, Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Morrison and More; Plus Two New Images

by     Posted 66 days ago

The idea of foosball players coming to life to help a kid save his village and the girl of his dreams sounds pretty silly, but it’s hard to turn down a movie with Ariana Grande, Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Morrison, Katie Holmes, John Leguizamo, Eugenio Derbez, Taran Killam, Bobby Moynihan and Chazz Palminteri attached to voice the characters.  Plus, the film did win the Grand Prize Award for a feature film at the New York International Children’s Film Festival, so perhaps I’m being too quick to judge.  (Although I do find Grande’s speaking voice quite grating.)

comic con the awesomes slice

From the comedic minds of Seth Meyers (SNL) and Michael Shoemaker (Late Night With Jimmy Fallon) comes Hulu’s first animated superhero comedy, The Awesomes.  The series will premiere in August and will follow the story of Prock (Meyers), the not so superhero son of Mr. Awesome (Steve Higgins), who decides to take on the task of assembling a new team made out of subpar superheroes after his father’s retirement.  The series will feature the voice talents of Meyers along with other fellow SNL alumni and comedians like Bill Hader, Taran Killam, Bobby Moynihan, Bobby Lee, Rashida Jones, Kenan Thompson, Cecily Strong, Paula Pell, and Ike Barinholtz.

The cast and crew behind the show were at this year’s Comic-Con.  Hit the jump to read a recap of the panel along with a review of the series first episode.

First Trailer for THE HEAT Starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy

by     Posted 2 years, 33 days ago

The first trailer for Bridesmaids director Paul Feig’s comedy The Heat has been released.  The film stars Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy as an uptight FBI agent and a foul-mouthed Boston police officer, respectively, who must team up to take down a drug lord.  The “mismatched partners” buddy cop premise may seem a tad stale, but this trailer proves that the comedic talents of Bullock and McCarthy (not to mention Feige) are enough to turn the basic logline into a really fun ride.  The two appear to have some excellent chemistry, and it’s especially neat to see one Thomas F. Wilson (ie. Biff Tannen from Back to the Future) back on the big screen.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Demian Bichir, Tony Hale, Taran Killam, and Michael RapaportThe Heat opens on April 5, 2013.

Zoolander Meets Stefon on Last Night’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Hosted by Ben Stiller

by     Posted 3 years, 72 days ago

Last time Ben Stiller host Saturday Night Live, it was 1998, aka the pre-Zoolander era.  By the time Stiller returned to host SNL last night, the show had created the perfect counterpart for Stiller’s male model character in flamboyant New York scenester Stefon (played by Bill Hader).  While all involved are trying to get Zoolander 2 going in features, Stiller revived the character for an appearance with Stefon on last night’s Weekend Update.  Get your Zoolander fix in the clip posted after the jump.

As a bonus, look for the show’s Moneyball parody, in which Billy Beane (Taran Killam doing a great Brad Pitt impression) turns to steroids instead of statistics.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Recruits Three New Cast Members, But Are More Veterans Leaving the Show?

by     Posted 4 years, 112 days ago

Upon first inspection, it would appear that Will Forte’s recently reported departure from Saturday Night Live is warranting a trio of comedians to replace him. However, The New York Post’s report that three new rising improv comedians are joining the cast in September suggests that more veteran departures may be on the way. Of course this is only speculation, but getting three news cast members to join the sketch comedy series while only one is leaving just seems a bit excessive and unnecessary. So who are the lucky young comedians who will be performing live from New York? Find out after the jump.
