A new red-band trailer for debut feature director Fredrik Bond’s Charlie Countryman is now online.  It’s tough to pin down just what makes this new cut so intoxicating to watch, whether it’s Shia LaBeouf’s drug tripping, Mads Mikkelsen’s terrifying presence or just the sense that this film will be something we haven’t quite seen before.  The plot centers on a young man’s spontaneous journey to Bucharest where he falls tragically in love with a woman claimed by a vicious gangster.

The first trailer for director Fredrik Bond’s film Charlie Country has been released online.  Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood stars as a couple who meet under strange circumstances and have an impossibly strong mutual attraction, much to the chagrin of Wood’s dangerous husband (Mads Mikkelsen).  The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to fairly negative reviews, with many likening the pic to a feature-length music video.  Bond has made some edits to the pic since Sundance, so it’ll be interesting to see how the finished film stacks up.  This trailer highlights the meet-cute of the central couple, Wood’s odd Romanian accent, and Rupert Grint taking lots of drugs.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and if you missed our interviews from Sundance click here for the full cast and click here for Bond.  The film also stars Til Schweiger, James Buckley, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Melissa LeoCharlie Countryman will be simultaneously released VOD and in theaters on November 15th.

The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman is director Fredrik Bond’s first feature film.  Premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, it stars Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood as a couple who meet under strange circumstances and have an impossibly strong mutual attraction.  As LaBeouf’s character Charlie falls for the beautiful and grieving Gabi, he gets caught in the sights of her dangerous husband (Mads Mikkelsen) and his life comes into immediate and grave danger.  The film feels like a modern fairy tale story of love and pain colliding set in the gritty world of Bucharest, Romania. It also stars Til Schweiger, Rupert Grint, James Buckley, Vincent D’Onofrio and Melissa Leo.

Shortly after the premiere of the film, I was able to sit down with director Fredrik Bond to discuss the film.  We were then pleasantly surprised to be joined by star James Buckley (The Inbetweeners) for the remainder of our 30 minute interview.  They discussed filming in Budapest, the unique look of the film, the closeness of the cast and gave me hints at what’s coming up next.  Click after the jump to read the whole interview.

Rupert Grint Joins THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN and CBGB

Though Ron Weasley will always be the defining role of his career, Rupert Grint isn’t short on post-Harry Potter employment. The young Brit has lined up a pair of pretty intriguing projects; first up comes confirmation that he’s climbed aboard Fredrik Bond’s action-comedy-romance The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. While the details of his role are unknown at this point, the film stars Shia LaBeouf as a hapless fellow that falls in love with a woman (Evan Rachel Wood) who’s lorded over by an unhinged mob boss (Mads Mikkelsen). Oscar winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds) are set to play LaBeouf’s deceased (but still communicative) mother and a Serbian war criminal respectively. All told, it’s a pretty fantastic assemblage of on-screen talent. More than anything, I’m looking forward to Mads “Le Chiffre” Mikkelsen busting out his “insanely violent” side; I simply never tire of watching that man commit unspeakable deeds.

The script for Countryman comes from Project X scribe Matt Drake. It’s currently filming in Romania. Hit the jump for more, plus details on Grint’s other new project, CBGB.

With Shia LaBeouf having been attached for some time now, the gritty pulp romance film, The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman continues to fill out its cast.  Oscar-winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and German import Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds ) are reportedly joining the Fredrik Bond-directed picture.  The romantic actioner from screenwriter Matt Drake (Project X) stars LaBeouf as the title character who falls in love with a woman (Evan Rachael Wood) who happens to be claimed by a violent and mentally unstable mob boss (Mads Mikkelsen).  The picture is reportedly set to shoot in Eastern Europe this coming May.  Hit the jump for more on Leo and Schweiger’s character, as well as to see who else might be joining.

Evan Rachel Wood & Mads Mikkelsen Join Shia LaBeouf in THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN

Shia LaBeouf first attached himself to The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman in April 2010, but the project is really gaining steam now.  Director Frederik Bond signed on late last month, and Evan Rachel Wood and Mads Mikkelsen joined the cast this weekend.  According to Variety, Wood will play Gabi, “a Hungarian girl who Charlie (LaBeouf) falls in love with after her father dies on a plane next to him.”  Unfortunately for Charlie, Gabi’s estranged husband (Mikkelsen) is an “insanely violent crime boss” who is intent on beating the love out of Charlie.  I like the story, and not just because it involves the ruthless beating of LaBeouf.  I can see why Matt Drake‘s screenplay made it on the 2007 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays.

Voltage and Bona Fide are currently in pre-production with plans to shoot The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman in Eastern Europe in May.  Hit the jump for the synopsis that came with the announcement press release back in 2010.

We first reported on The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman almost a year ago when Shia LaBeouf was reportedly attached to the project. The Transformers star is still starring as the title character and now has a director to work with. Fredrik Bond, a director of numerous commercials, will be directing the “romantic actioner” from screenwriter Matt Drake (Project X). Another commercials director, Dante Ariola, had previously been attached to direct. The plot follows Charlie and his romantic relationship with a girl who has unfortunately been claimed by an insane mob boss with a penchant for violence and a gang at his disposal. Pre-production has started for the Voltage and Bona Fide Productions project. Hit the jump for an example of Bond’s work and the full synopsis of The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman.

Shia LaBeouf to Star in THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN

Shia LaBeouf has signed on to lead Dante Ariola’s “romantic actioner” The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman.  Written by Matt Drake, Countryman centers on Charlie (LaBeouf), a charming gent who falls in love with a girl who’s past association with an “insanely violent crime boss with a gang of thugs at his disposal,” proves slightly hazardous to Charlie’s health. However, Charlie’s willingness to keep getting his ass kicked in an attempt to woo Gabi may lead him to having his heart literally broken.

The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman will be the feature film debut of Ariola, whose previous work includes commercials for Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Nike, HP, and PlayStation.  Drake’s script for Countryman was on the 2007 Black List (list of the best unproduced screenplay in Hollywood).  LaBeouf will next be seen in theaters this September in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.  Hit the jump to read the full press release.
