The Pretty One zoe kazan

Written and directed by first-time filmmaker Jenée LaMarque, The Pretty One tells the story of what happens when Laurel (Zoe Kazan) loses her identical twin sister Audrey (also played by Zoe Kazan) in a fatal car accident and must learn how to break out of her shell and discover who she is, as an individual.  The film also stars Jake Johnson, Ron Livingston and John Carroll Lynch.

During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actress Zoe Kazan talked about what made her want to play these dual roles, why she wanted to work with writer/director Jenée LaMarque, how it felt like she was, at time, playing four different characters with the various gradations, which twin she was more drawn to playing, and how technically difficult it all was.  She also talked about getting to work with the writing of Joss Whedon on the film In Your Eyes, and how excited she is to see the film.  Check out what she had to say after the jump.

We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share with you this afternoon. First up, Variety reports that Amanda Peet is the third person to join the cast of the comedy Identity Thief. Briesmaids star Melissa McCarthy plays a woman who steals a man’s identity (Jason Bateman), and hilarity ensues. Plot details beyond the basic logline are unknown, but Bateman and McCarthy make an enticing comedic pair. Throw the lovely Amanda Peet into the mix and you’ve got yourself the makings of a promising comedy.

I’ve been a big fan of Peet’s work for years, with her stint on the short-lived Aaron Sorkin series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip a standout on the show. Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon is onboard to direct Identity Thief is set to open on May 10th, 2013. Hit the jump for casting news concerning the Black List script The Pretty One.

Each year, Hollywood releases “The Black List.” The list is a compilation of the “best” unproduced scripts making the rounds of Hollywood, as voted on by hundreds of film executives. Past scripts that have made their way to the list include Diablo Cody’s Juno and Aaron Sorkin‘s The Social Network. This year, topping the list is Graham Moore’s script for the Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game. Turning was a mathematician and codebreaker during World War II who was criminally prosecuted for his homosexuality, after which he elected chemical castration over prison, and eventually ended his own life.

The Imitation Game has been in the works for a while, and last we heard Warner Bros. was keen on getting Harry Potter director David Yates to take the helm. Leonardo DiCaprio is also said to have taken a liking to the role of Turing. Also appearing on the list is Matt Damon’s planned directorial debut Father Daughter Time and Chewie, which tells the behind-the-scenes story of Star Wars from the perspective of Peter Mayhew. Hit the jump to peruse the entire list, which includes two Pinocchio projects, a movie about catching a screening of Jurassic Park, and zombies!
