As the woman behind The Proposal, Anne Fletcher held on to the title of “Director of the Biggest Hit of Sandra Bullock’s Career” for about six months, until The Blind Side‘s John Lee Hancock usurped the throne.  (Damn you, Hancock!)  But some bonds are stronger than box office.  Bullock is currently attached to Most Wanted, a Fletcher feature with Proposal co-star Ryan Reynolds on board to co-star. Fletcher and Bullock will then make a run at the hat trick, with a third film in the works.

Details are mostly under wraps for the untitled project, based on a pitch by Pamela Falk and Michael Ellis (The Wedding Planner).  Hit the jump for the little we do know, plus a look at Bullock’s upcoming calendar.

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds to Reunite for Action-Comedy MOST WANTED

by     Posted: June 7th, 2010 at 1:40 pm

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds had fantastic chemistry in last year’s romantic comedy The ProposalEW.com reports that Universal is trying to recreate that magic by reuniting the two actors for the action comedy Most Wanted.  The studio is currently in negotiations with Proposal director Anne Fletcher to return as well.  EW says “the storyline for the movie revolves around a criminal (Bullock) being escorted to court by a U.S. Marshall (Reynolds). Both are ambushed on the way and are forced to go on the run.”  Isn’t that the plot of The Bounty Hunter?  Because it sounds like the plot of The Bounty Hunter.

This is Bullock’s first role since her Oscar-winning performance in The Blind Side.  However, this is just another project on Reynolds’ already busy schedule.  He’s got Buried coming out in October and is playing the title character in the superhero flick Green Lantern next summer.  He’s also reprising his role as super-anti-hero Deadpool, co-starring with Jason Bateman in the body-switching comedy The Change-Up, and he’s attached to star in the adaptation of the graphic novel R.I.P.D.

Hollywood Tops $10 Billion for First Time in 2009

Hollywood Sign (2).jpg

With Avatar the reigning champ and Sherlock Holmes still to come, Hollywood crossed the $10 billion line for the first time in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales for 2009.  Through Sunday, the total stood just $36 million short of crossing the $10 billion line, according to tracking firm Hollywood Box Office, and was set to plow across it Tuesday night.

The year’s top box office attractions were Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and with hits like Harry Potter and The Hangover, Warner Bros. was the North American box office champ among studios.  And with both Robert Downey Jr.’s take on Sherlock Holmes and the return of those rascally rodents in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel coming in time for Christmas, the final take is expected to top $10.4 billion.

THE PROPOSAL DVD Review

Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock in THE PROPOSAL slice.jpg

2009 has been a tough year for standard-issue romantic comedies.  “The Proposal,” which in any other year would have been a decent entry in a tired genre, really looked simple next to genre-benders “500 Days of Summer” and “Paper Heart.”  The film is decent, for what it is.  People who like the “Sweet Home Alabama”s and “Maid in Manhattan”s of the world will feel right at home with this one.  But those select few should’ve caught the film in theaters; there’s no real reason to buy the DVD.  More after the jump.

With only hours to go before Hollywood’s golden season draws to a close, I thought it was a good time to do the post-mortem on the summer of 2009.  By now you may have heard that this summer was Hollywood’s most-profitable ever with grosses topping $4.3 billion. But has it felt like the biggest summer ever?  Not really.  Blockbusters like “Transformers 2″ and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” aside, 2009 was a season of expensive movies that didn’t live up to the hype and cheap movies that performed above all expectations.  Follow me now into the murky world of box office number crunching to see just how huge Hollywood’s hugest summer really was.

Weekend Box Office Report – THE PROPOSAL Takes Number One with $34 Million

by     Posted: June 21st, 2009 at 10:15 am

Proposal_The.jpgConventional wisdom puts Sandra Bullock as one of the only female movie stars who is a legitimate box office draw.  Until Friday, however, this conventional wisdom was kind of hard to prove.  Though Bullock’s films, especially those that fall in the romantic comedy category, have performed well in the long run, a surprising number of those films never got out of the $15 million dollar range on their opening weekends.  New entry “The Proposal” handily bucked that trend with a three day total of $34 million off of 3,056 runs.  The Disney release co-starring Ryan Reynolds (who, incidentally, already has a much-better opening under his belt thanks to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) easily beat back competition from the week’s other comedies, including Sony’s “Year One” and holdover hit “The Hangover”, to claim preeminence at the weekend box-office.

Title Weekend Total
1 The Proposal $34,114,000 $34,114,000
2 The Hangover $26,885,000 $152,919,000
3 Up $21,336,000 $224,113,000
4 Year One $20,200,000 $20,200,000
5 Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 $11,300,000 $43,332,000
6 Night at the Museum 2 $7,300,000 $155,953,000
7 Star Trek $4,700,000 $239,444,000
8 Land of the Lost $3,976,000 $43,672,000
9 Imagine That $3,100,000 $11,351,000
10 Terminator Salvation $3,070,000 $119,513,000

Friday Box Office – THE PROPOSAL Sees a More Than Modest Debut with $12.4 Million

by     Posted: June 20th, 2009 at 10:28 am

Proposal_The.jpgAnother week of weak sauce at the box office has led to another surprise upset.  On Thursday it looked as if it would be a three-way fight for the top spot as “The Hangover” put its two-week winning streak up against new comedy challengers “The Proposal” and “Year One”.  In this lackluster June all three films were expected to bring in weekend totals in the $20 million range.  Instead, it was a fight to see who would come in second as Disney’s “The Proposal” became the clear box-office winner with over $12 million in grosses. This makes the film the biggest opener of Sandra Bullock’s career and puts it on track for a weekend take above $30 million.  It’s still anyone’s race for number two as “The Hangover” and Sony’s “Year One” both brought in around $8.5 million.  Check back tomorrow to see who gets the upper hand…

Title Friday Total
1 The Proposal $12,400,000 $12,400,000
2 Year One $8,500,000 $8,500,000
3 The Hangover $8,465,000 $134,529,000
4 Up $6,100,000 $208,876,000
5 The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 $3,200,000 $35,232,000

THE PROPOSAL Review

by     Posted: June 18th, 2009 at 5:41 pm

headline-1.jpg“The Proposal” is a nice reminder that not all romantic comedies have to crush our souls into a fine powder.  If you have talented leads working from a script with sharp dialogue, then you can make for a fine date night flick.  While it needs a slightly longer set-up, goes too mawkish in its third act, and relies too heavily on Betty White in the “wacky-granny” role, watching Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds snipe at each other is absolutely delightful and worth the price of admission.

THE PROPOSAL – 6 Movie Clips

by     Posted: May 31st, 2009 at 9:09 pm

Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock in THE PROPOSAL (2).jpgOpening June 19th is director Anne Fletcher’s “The Proposal”. The film is the latest offering in the romantic comedy genre and this one stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

While I’m forced to see a lot of romantic comedies, I have to say, this one was a lot better than I expected. If you’ve got a girlfriend/wife/significant other that loves this genre and they’re always asking you to go with them, this is the one to bite the bullet on as Ryan Reynolds is very funny.

Anyway, we’ve been provided with six clips from the film and they’re all after the jump – along with a full synopsis. Take a look. If you’ve got some thoughts abou to clips, please leave some comments.
