Where Will You be When You Realize You’ve Seen the SAN ANDREAS Trailer Before?

by     Posted 10 days ago

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  Well, here’s hoping Roland Emmerich feels the same way.  A couple days ago we got our first look at San Andreas, the upcoming disaster film featuring The Rock vs. Earthquake, and something felt a little too familiar.  “Where will you be?” asks the trailer.  Well, turns out the trailer for 2004′s The Day After Tomorrow asked the exact same question in a trailer that, generally speaking, is pretty similar to the one for San Andreas.  Is it too similar?  Judge for yourself after the jump.

Will Dwayne Johnson Play LOBO in the Warner Bros. Adaptation of the DC Comic?

by     Posted 2 years, 213 days ago

Last week, a random Twitter user mentioned her desire to see The Rock as a DC superhero.  Dwayne Johnson, forever in touch with his fans, tweeted in response, “Funny U say that…“  That obviously sparked fervent speculation.  Bleeding Cool followed up with an interesting possibility: the antihero biker Lobo.  Bleeding Cool admits their source is untested, one who purportedly overheard Johnson boasting at a party that he will play Lobo.  But the rumor is a good fit.  There is a Lobo adaptation in development.  Brad Peyton, the director of Johnson’s last movie Journey 2: The Center of the Earth, is steering the ship.  And no actor really has that Lobo physique other than The Rock.  So all the pieces fit—we’re just missing the important ones that spell “O-f-f-i-c-i-a-l” across the top.  We’ll put a pin in this for now.  In the meantime, hit the jump for background on Lobo.

Dwayne Johnson Talks G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, Michael Bay’s PAIN AND GAIN, FAST SIX (Which is Filming in London) and HERCULES

by     Posted 2 years, 240 days ago

With director Jon M. Chu‘s G.I. Joe: Retaliation opening June 29, Paramount has been amping up the promotional campaign this past week by debuting a ton of character posters and a great looking trailer.  As a fan of the first film, I’ll admit the sequel looks even better and it’s rocking a great cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum, Walton Goggins, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and D.J. Cotrona.

Earlier today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, I got to sit down with Dwayne Johnson for an extended interview.  We talked about how he was approached to play Roadblock, the tone of the film, how he collaborated with director Jon M. Chu before production began, his thoughts on the brand new trailer and the sizzle reel I saw last night (here’s my recap), and more.  In addition, with Johnson currently filming Michael Bay‘s Pain and Gain, we talked about the crazy story it’s based on, the style Bay is going for, and he also said that after he wraps, he’ll start shooting Fast Six in London and Berlin and then he heads to New Zealand for director Brett Ratner’s Hercules.  Hit the jump to either watch or read what he had to say.

First Images of Dwayne Johnson on the Set of Michael Bay’s PAIN AND GAIN

by     Posted 2 years, 259 days ago

Production is currently underway on Michael Bay’s (relatively) small dark comedy Pain and Gain, and just the other day we got our first look at Rob Corddry and Mark Wahlberg on the set.  Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson star in the Fargo-esque true story of two bodybuilders who got caught up in an extorition ring and kidnapping scheme that went terribly wrong.  We got a glimpse of Wahlberg doing some harness-enhanced wall sit-ups in the first batch of set photos, but today we get a great look at Wahlberg and Johnson together.  We already know that the two have proven comedic chops, so I’m eager to see how they play off of each other.  If the goofy costumes are any indication, we may be in for a really fun ride.

New Set Photo and Video of Dwayne Johnson in G.I. JOE 2

by     Posted 3 years, 57 days ago

Dwayne Johnson is apparently an avid Twitter user. A couple months ago we got our first look at the actor in character as Roadblock in G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation via his Twitter account, and today he’s given us another look at him in character through a photo and a video he shot onset. It’s not much, but he teases a major action sequence being shot near him. Furthermore, you might be able to spot a familiar face from the Collider community in the set photo.

Hit the jump to check out the image and video. Directed by Jon Chu, the film also stars Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, RZA, Joseph Mazzello, Elodie Yung, and Walton Goggins. G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation opens June 29, 2012.

NBC Picks up 80′s Professional Wresting Drama Pilot from Dwayne Johnson and Jerry Bruckheimer

by     Posted 3 years, 119 days ago

With the actor first gaining fame as a professional wrestler who only used to be known as The Rock, what better man than Dwayne Johnson to bring a drama series set in the world of wresting to television. Deadline reports NBC has just picked up a pilot from Johnson and producer Jerry Bruckheimer that will take place during the golden age of wrestling in the 1980′s. With World Championship Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation being at the top of their game in that decade, it’s the perfect setting for such a series which will be written by Brent Fletcher and Seamus Kevin Fahey (Spartacus: Gods of the Arena)

It’s yet another period drama heading to networks following the success of Mad Men, and the premiere of new dramas like Pan-Am and The Playboy Club this fall. The question is whether or not real wrestling icons like Hulk Hogan or Randy “Macho Man” Savage will be included, or if the drama will be completely fictionalized. Since wrestling has never been my cup of tea, I’m not necessarily excited, but I could’ve said the same thing about my interest in a New York ad agency in the 60′s and now I can’t miss an episode of Mad Men, so there you go.

Watch This: Every Michael Bay Movie in under a Minute

by     Posted 3 years, 174 days ago

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is 154 minutes long but did you know you could condense every Michael Bay movie in under a minute?  It’s true and the folks at CollegeHumor have done exactly that!  While I think some Bay movies are better than others, he certainly has a formula that earns both massive box office and massive scorn from critics.

TOOTH FAIRY Blu-ray Review

by     Posted 4 years, 220 days ago

The Tooth Fairy movie image Dwayne Johnson

As his above-the-title credit indicates, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is still stuck somewhere between his wrestling past and his acting future. His incessant mugging in the treacly new family comedy Tooth Fairy suggests he’s more or less given up on real thespian-ism, despite his acclaimed, against-type performance a few years back in Be Cool. Lately, Johnson’s simply stuck to playing it closer to the (ham)bone persona he developed during his WWF years in a series of middling fish-out-water family films, the latest of which, Tooth Fairy, recently hit Blu-ray.  My review after the jump:

Jessica Biel, Justin Long, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Interview PLANET 51

Jessica Biel, Justin Long, and Dwayne_The_Rock_Johnson PLANET 51.jpg

Last week, Sony held a press junket at the Griffith Observatory, here in Los Angeles, to help promote their upcoming animated movie Planet 51.  Since the film takes place on another planet, I think the location was perfect.  Also, almost every press day is held at a hotel, and it’s great to “shake and bake” the junket format.   But while the location was different, that didn’t stop Jessica Biel, Justin Long, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson from making all the journalists laugh during most of their press conference.  While you may be sick of Justin Long and his Mac commercials, the guy is quick on his feet when reacting to questions.  I was very impressed.

Anyway, after the jump to can either read the transcript of the press conference or listen to the audio.  While I always think listening to the audio is better than reading a trancript, for this one, it’s almost mandatory.  There is just no way to get some of the jokes that were being told by reading them.  I promise, if you listen to the conversation, you’ll be laughing as much as we were.  Read or listen after the jump:

Dwayne Johnson Returns to Action with FASTER

Dwayne Johnson The Rock (7).jpg

I’m happy to report that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is starring in an action movie again.  I really, really am.  I thought that we had lost the once promising new action star to kiddie flicks (The Tooth Fairy?!), but it seems that we are going to be treated to Johnson kicking some ass again on the big screen soon.  The actor is now in negotiations to star in the action drama “Faster” for director George Tillman Jr. (“Notorious”) and you can get all the details when you hit the jump.
