Opening this weekend is Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.  The film is a sequel to 2006’s Silent Hill, and centers on a daughter and father who are on the run from dangerous forces that remain unknown to the young girl.  When her father (Sean Bean) goes missing, the young girl (Adelaide Clemens) must set out to discover what happened.  When she becomes trapped in a demonic world, the girl learns she’s not who she thinks she is. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D also stars Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Radha Mitchell, and Malcolm McDowell.  For more on the film, here’s Matt recap of the NYCC panel, some clips, a TV spot, and the trailer.

Shortly before his panel at Comic-Con, I got to sit down with Kit Harington for an exclusive video interview.  We talked about how he got involved in Silent Hill, did he play the game, what it’s like to be at Comic-Con, what he collects, starring opposite Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in The Seventh Son, and more.  In addition, for all the Game of Thrones fans, Harington talked about the bigger budget for season three and how the season compares to seasons one and two.  Hit the jump to watch.

First Concept Art from SEVENTH SON Starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, and Ben Barnes

Earlier this week, we brought you word that production had begun on Sergey Bodrov’s (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan) fantasy adventure, Seventh Son. Now we can bring you the first concept art released for the film, something not seen outside of last year’s Comic-Con. While it doesn’t show off an awful lot, you can get a definite sense of setting and scope from the image.

Based on the The Spook’s Apprentice, the first novel in Joseph Delaney‘s young adult book series, The Wardstone Chronicles, Seventh Son follows a knight training a new apprentice to combat an old evil (how’s that for vague? More plot details after the jump.) The film stars Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Kit Harington, Ben Barnes and Olivia Williams. Hit the jump for the official synopsis and a look at the image.

Production has begun on the fantasy action adventure flick Seventh Son, and with that announcement comes an official synopsis.  Briefly: Jeff Bridges plays a knight who had imprisoned an evil witch (Julianne Moore), but then she escapes and plans to do evil witchy things.  The knight is forced to take on an apprentice (Ben Barnes)—the seventh son of a seventh son—and only has until the next full moon to get the kid up to snuff.    The movie is based on The Spook’s Apprentice, the first novel in Joseph Delaney‘s young adult book series, The Wardstone Chronicles, which has franchise potential because of course it does.  Thankfully, it’s got a good cast on board, which also includes Olivia Williams and Kit Harington.

Hit the jump for the press release, which includes the synopsis.  Legendary Pictures made a brief presentation for the film at last year’s Comic-Con so it’s possible we might see another appearance at this year’s Con.  The press release doesn’t include a release date, but Box Office Mojo is listing the film for February 15, 2013.

Shannon Woodward to Play Punk in ADULT WORLD; SUPERMAN Star Antje Traue Joins THE SEVENTH SON

Shannon Woodward has signed on to join Emma Roberts, John Cusack, and Evan Peters in Adult World.  The script by Andrew Cochran is pitched as an  examination of “the contemporary state of post-graduate life in America.”  (Blech.)  Roberts plays a recent graduate and aspiring poet who works at the erotic bookstore Adult World.  According to Deadline, Woodward will play a “punk/goth anarchist sporting a nose ring and a Ramones shirt” who becomes roomates with Roberts’ character after they bond over their rebellion.  Woodward is my favorite thing on Raising Hope, and any girl becomes 10% more fetching in a Ramones shirt.  So Adult World just broke even for me after starting off in the hole with that “state of post-graduate life” logline that tastes of copper.  Director Scott Coffey (Ellie Parker) is currently shooting the project in upstate New York.

GAME OF THRONES Star Kit Harington Joins Jeff Bridges in THE SEVENTH SON

While Game of Thrones star Kit Harington was poised to get his first feature film starring role with Arthur & Lancelot, Warner Bros. abruptly put the David Dobkin-helmed project on hold in order to sort out the swelling budget. The film isn’t yet dead, but production has been pushed back leaving a hole in Harington’s schedule. It appears the actor was quick to fill that void, as Variety reports that he’s now in final negotiations to join the cast of The Seventh Son. The film stars Jeff Bridges as a grizzled witch hunter who takes on a new apprentice in the form of Ben Barnes. Harington will play a former apprentice of Bridges’ character in the fantasy pic.

What this means for Arthur & Lancelot is uncertain. Harington is due back on the Game of Thrones set after he wraps The Seventh Son in order to film the third season of the hit HBO series. This means he likely won’t be available until fall at the earliest (season two of GoT filmed from July to December). Depending on when/if WB starts Arthur & Lancelot back up again, Harington may find himself replaced. No matter, he’s one of the highlights of Game of Thrones and as evidenced by how quickly he found a replacement project, he’s definitely got a bright feature career ahead of him.

Ben Barnes Talks THE WORDS, OVERDRIVE, THE SEVENTH SON, THE WEDDING, and More at Sundance 2012

Ben Barnes THE WORDS interview sundance slice

One of the best films I saw at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was writer-director Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal‘s first feature, The Words. The film stars Bradley Cooper as a writer who, after discovering an extraordinary lost manuscript, passes the work off as his own and receives overwhelming critical acclaim.  Jeremy Irons plays the man who originally wrote the manuscript, and the film weaves multiple narratives to tell the story.  The Words also stars Zoe Saldana, Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde, Ben Barnes, and JK Simmons.  CBS Films bought the film after its first screening and they plan to release it later this year.  It’s definitely a film you should be excited to see.

Shortly after watching the movie, I got to sit down with Ben Barnes for an exclusive interview.  We talked about what it means to be at Sundance, how he got involved in The Words and who he plays, karaoke, video games, and and he tells a funny story about how Colin Firth kept him laughing on the set of Dorian Gray.  In addition, Barnes talked about his other upcoming projects like The Wedding (which stars Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Susan Sarandon and Robin Williams), The Seventh Son with Jeff Bridges (which he starts to film next month and says it’ll be PG-13), and reveals that Overdrive with Karl Ubran has fallen apart.  Hit the jump for more.

Ben Barnes Talks KILLING BONO and THE SEVENTH SON

We’ve all gone to school with friends who have become more successful than ourselves, but Neil McCormick (played by Ben Barnes) had to watch while his friend Paul (Martin McCann) became Bono. While Neil always dreamed of life as a rock star, Bono became one of the most famous rock stars on the planet. No matter how hard they try, Neil and his brother Ivan (Robert Sheehan) never reach the fame and stardom of U2, instead destined to forever live in their shadow.

During a recent phoner to promote Killing Bono, adapted from Neil McCormick’s book I Was Bono’s Doppleganger: A Life in the Shadows of Superstardom, actor Ben Barnes talked to Collider for this exclusive interview about the appeal of a biopic seen through the eyes of someone who just happened to be in the room, getting to live out his own rock star fantasy with this role, how he watched all of the great frontmen and stole the most ridiculous moves from each for his stage persona, the challenge of playing a sympathetic anti-hero, and working with Pete Postlethwaite in what became his last performance. He also talked about his next role as the apprentice of Jeff Bridges’ witch hunter in the fantasy film The Seventh Son. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

There’s plenty of good stuff to see at this year’s Comic-Con.  There’s too much good stuff.  You could clone yourself seven times and you and your many selves still probably couldn’t see everything worth seeing.   I am without a cloning machine (damn you, lazy scientists) and I will be covering only Hall H this year.  After the jump, I’ve listed the five panels I’m most interested in seeing in Hall H as well as the five panels I wish I could attend outside of Comic-Con’s biggest room.

Robin Williams Rows GENTLY DOWN THE STREAM; Ben Barnes Is THE SEVENTH SON

We have couple of casting bits to bring you this Friday afternoon. First up, Robin Williams has joined writer/director Justin Zackham’s (writer, The Bucket List) wedding comedy Gently Down the Stream. Williams brings another star to an already stellar cast that includes Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, and Katherine Heigl. Per Variety, the Oscar-winning actor will play the role of Father Monaghan in the pic that tells the story of a long-divorced couple (De Niro and Keaton) who pretend that they’re still married for the sake of their adopted son’s upcoming wedding. Rounding out the Gently Down the Stream cast are Susan Sarandon, Patricia Rae, and Ben Barnes. Production on the film is expected to begin this July.

Speaking of Ben Barnes, The Chronicles of Narnia actor has signed on to star alongside Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in the Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures fantasy project The Seventh Son. Variety reports that Barnes is in line for the title role (the same one Sam Claffin was once in talks for) which is described as “the seventh son of a seventh son” who learns all things wizard-related. Directed by Sergei Bodrov (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan), the pic is based on Joseph Delaney’s young adult book series. For more on the project, hit the jump to read a synopsis for the series’ first installment, Revenge of the Witch.

Sam Claflin and Alicia Vikander in Talks for THE SEVENTH SON

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures reportedly offered Alex Pettyfer and Jennifer Lawrence the parts of Tom and Alice in The Seventh Son — the upcoming adaptation of the first book in the Last Apprentice series — but they passed on the roles.  Since then, the studios cast out a wide net: Sam Claflin, Caleb Landry-Jones, James Frecheville for Tom; Alicia Vikander, Imogen Poots, Felicity Jones,  Gabrielle Wild, and Dianna Agron for Alice.  Variety reports that Claflin and Vikander have emerged from the young Hollywood scuffle to enter negotiations to star.  Claflin is poised for a breakout as the effective Orlando Bloom replacement in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  Vikander is a Swedish actress seeking her first credit in Hollywood — WB and Legendary considered her earlier in the year for a role in the sequel to Clash of the Titans.

From a creative standpoint, Vikander may have lucked out.  Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, and their ten combined Oscar nominations are in talks to play the Spook and Mother Malkin, respectively, for director Sergey Bodrov (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan). Joseph Delaney’s young adult novels center on “a 13-year-old who’s the seventh son of a seventh son and learns about wizardry from a forbidding spook.”  Read the synopsis for Revenge of the Witch, the first in the series, after the break.

Julianne Moore Joins Jeff Bridges in THE SEVENTH SON

Julianne Moore has joined Jeff Bridges in Sergey Bodrov’s The Seventh Son.  The film is an adaptation of the young adult novel The Last Apprentice and follows a young exorcist-in-training who can see and hear ghosts and smell death.  Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Moore will play Mother Malkin, “the most sinister of witches who uses blood magic.”  As we previously reported, Bridges will play Exorcist Master Gregory, aka “The Spook”.  Alex Pettyfer and Jennifer Lawrence were both offered roles in The Seventh Son, but they have reportedly passed on the flick.

While Moore was overlooked in the awards race for her great performance in The Kids Are All Right, she’s still been picking up a slew of new roles.  In the past two months, she’s signed on to the vampire thriller Innocence, Paul Weitz’ adaptation of Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, and she’ll play Sarah Palin in the HBO movie Game Change.  Moore will next be seen in the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. with Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of The Last Apprentice.
