Hopefully you’ve had your morning coffee and don’t plan on having a glass of wine for a while now because these new clips from The Sound and the Fury and The Riot Club might make you think twice about drinking either of them.  James Franco’s latest is just days away from its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and has its Toronto International Film Festival screening coming up right after, so the team behind it has unveiled a clip from the film, teasing the intensity we’ve got coming.

We’ve also got Lone Scherfig’s The Riot Club making its way to TIFF for a world premiere.  Even though Joey King and Scott Haze both look like they can get a little nasty in that piece from The Sound and the Fury, the Riot Club clip actually might be tougher to stomach.  Hit the jump to find out why.

Not only is James Franco due to receive the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the Venice Film Festival in September, but he’s also got a film screening out-of-competition too, his adaptation of the William Faulkner novel, The Sound and the Fury.  With the 71st edition of the festival set to kick off on Wednesday, August 27th, promo material for the official selections is starting to surface and we’ve got four new stills from Franco’s film in the mix.

The assortment features Danny McBride and Seth Rogen looking strikingly different donning their period wardrobe, a shot of Franco’s Child of God star, Scott Haze, looking far more put together than he did as Lester Ballard, and then two more of Franco himself as Benjy Compson.  Hit the jump to check out those The Sound and the Fury images.  The film also stars Jacob Loeb, Ahna O’Reilly, Tim Blake Nelson, Joey King and Loretta Devine.

James Franco Planning to Adapt THE SOUND AND THE FURY; Eyeing Jon Hamm, Dave Franco, and Danny McBride to Star

Even though his adaptation of William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying received mixed reviews at Cannes, James Franco is planning to adapt another work from the revered author.  According to The L.A. Times, Franco is looking to helm The Sound and the Fury, and will write the script with his As I Lay Dying co-writer Matt Rager.  Like Faulkner’s other novels, The Sound and the Fury is a tough adaptation.  Narratively, it’s about the decline of the Compson family in the fictional county of Yoknapatawpha in the early 20th century.  But what makes it special is the various points of view and writing style.  Going inside the head of manchild Benjy is more rewarding than simply showing that character on screen.  That being said, I don’t know how Franco plans to approach the material, so perhaps he has a take to match Faulkner’s unique writing.
