A few release date shuffles have been announced.  Briefly:

• I, Frankenstein – Director Stuart Beattie’s graphic novel adaptation has been pushed back yet again from this coming September to the less-than-promising date of January 24th.  The Aaron Eckhart-starrer will now open opposite the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Sam Worthington thriller Ten.
• Insidious: Chapter 2 – The Patrick Wilson/Rose Byrne-fronted horror sequel will now open a week earlier on September 13th, opposite Machete Kills and Battle of the Year.
• Austenland – Sony Pictures Classic has set Jerusha Hess’ Sundance comedy for a limited release in NY and LA on August 16th.  The film stars Keri Russell and Jemaine Clement.
• Walk of Shame – Director Steven Brill’s comedy, which stars Elizabeth Banks and James Marsden, has been slated for wide release on September 20th.  The film will open opposite the Hugh Jackman/Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Prisoners and Ron Howard’s racing drama Rush.
• Escape Plan - The Arnold Schwarzenegger/Sylvester Stallone thriller previously known as The Tomb has been moved up from September 27th to September 13th.

• The Tomb, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone gets a new release date of September 27th, 2013.
• Now You See Me, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, moves back again from March 15th to June 7th, 2013.
• The Big Wedding, featuring Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl and Robin Williams, gets a six month push from October 26 of this year to April 26th, 2013.
• Pitch Perfect, with Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow  and Christopher Mintz-Plasse opens a week earlier than scheduled, now on September 28th of this year.

For such an intimidating presence, Curtis Jackson (otherwise known as 50 Cent) has a rather shy and unassuming demeanor.  His soft voice and friendly smile serves as a nice counterbalance to the villainous thugs or hard-knocks anti-heroes, he is wont to play.  In Freelancers, Jackson stars as Malo – a former street thug turned police officer – torn between the criminal underworld and ‘the law’ he’s sworn to protect.  In the bleak nihilistic view of the film – there may not be much of a difference between the two: the cops just as corrupt, if not more so, than the criminals they’re sworn to catch.  Jackson’s two-sided demeanor serves him well here – as for pretty much the entirety of the film, you’re unsure if he’s the hero or the villain of his very own film.

In the following interview with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, he discusses the difficulty in playing both hero and villain, his screenwriting career and his role in the upcoming Schwarzenegger/Stallone film The Tomb, among many other topics of conversation. The first image from The Tomb has gone online.  Sylvester Stallone stars as Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. Breslin is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own master design (why you would put him there as opposed to any other prison is beyond me), and must now figure out how to break out.  Stallone is joined by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who plays a fellow inmate (and likely accomplice in said jail break).  The image shows the guys rocking prison uniforms (in a prison; no curveballs here).  You can also see Schwarzenegger rocking the silver fox haircut and goatee.

At the ESPN portion of the TCA Press Tour, Arnold Schwarzenegger was there to talk about the first installment of the 30 for 30 Shorts documentary series, premiering online.  Focusing on his teenage years in the Austrian Army, the short shows how the young Austrian farm boy’s mandatory military service played a critical role in his journey to international fame.

Before the panel ended, talk naturally turned to his acting career, and Schwarzenegger commented on why it’s taken so long for him to team up with Sylvester Stallone, how he originally got involved with The Expendables, what it took to work the first film and its sequel into his very busy schedule, how The Expendables 2 looks like it will be a big enough hit to do a third film, and teaming up with Stallone again for The Tomb, an action thriller due out in 2013.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

You’re driving down the street, and it’s suddenly blocked off.  You notice these weird yellow signs with nonsensical letters or numbers.  There’s unusual glow lighting up a neighborhood you can’t usually see from your house.  What you might have here is a film company shooting in your town.  It happens a lot, and you never know where they might pop up…until now.

You’ll have to wait until August 17th to see Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone together again in The Expendables 2, but this video from the set visit of The Tomb should hold you over.  Production started recently in New Orleans on the Mikael Hafstrom (1408) picture that stars Sly as Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security who is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own design.  In prison, Breslin meets Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger), the leader of the prisoners who wants to get out just as badly as Breslin does.  In this video, Stallone and Schwarzenegger comment further on their characters in The Tomb, their work together on The Expendables and The Expendables 2, and the old-school machismo of action movies and their stars, which Sly calls, “male pattern badness.”  Written by Miles Chapman (Road House 2: Last Call) and Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher), The Tomb also stars Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Jim Caviezel, Amy Ryan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, and new addition Sam Neill.  Hit the jump to check it out along with some images from the set.

In an interesting turn, Caviezel will be playing the warden of the prison, with Jones set as his head of security.  Mikael Hafstrom (The Rite) is onboard to direct, and I’m really looking forward to watching a Stallone and Schwarzenegger prison break pic.  Hit the jump to read the full press release, which has details regarding the other characters in the film.

Director Mikael Hafstrom just rounded out a great deal of his cast for the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Sylvester Stallone team-up actioner The Tomb.  Stallone stars as a structural security expert who is framed and locked up in a high-security prison that he designed, and Schwarzenegger is onboard as one of the prison’s inmates and a potential ally to Stallone.  Jim Caviezel also stars, and now Variety has added four more names to the cast: Amy Ryan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Vinnie Jones and 50 Cent.  Hit the jump for details concerning who these new additions to the cast will be playing.

We have a couple of quick casting stories to report this morning.  First up, Antonio Banderas will play Pablo Picasso in Carlos Saura‘s drama 33 dias (33 Days).  Per Variety, the movie is “about the painter’s emotional turmoil as he worked on masterpiece ‘Guernica.’ 33 dias refers to the time Picasso spent on the mural, which captured his reaction to the destruction of Basque town of Guernica in 1937 by the Nazi Luftwaffe during the Spanish Civil War.”  I would much rather see a biopic done in this fashion; taking a pivotal point of an artist’s life and putting all of the focus on that event rather than lumping it into a “greatest hits” narrative.  The story will also show his relationship with his lover, French artist Dora Maar, and how the painting was Picaso’s “salvation.”  Even though Banderas has done drama in the past, his recent turn in Pedro Almodovar‘s The Skin I Live In was powerful and deeply unnerving, and I can’t wait to see how he plays Picasso.  Filming is set to begin next summer in Paris and Guernica.

For those who like their action pics packed with extra brawn, The Tomb is shaping up to be your kind of flick. The long-in-development actioner has seen Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and Arnold Schwarzenegger circle the lead role over the years, with Stallone finally signing on last October. We recently heard that Stallone was talking with his pal Schwarzenegger about joining the film in a different role, and today that news has been confirmed as both Stallone and Schwarzenegger are set to star. Stallone plays Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. Breslin is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own master design, and must now figure out how to break out (shouldn’t be too difficult if he designed the damn building). The prison escape drama The Tomb has quite the casting history. Bruce Willis was initially set to star in the film for director Antoine Fuqua, but eventually dropped out. After Willis left the project, Arnold Schwarzenegger was considering it as a possible comeback film. When Schwarzenegger chose The Last Stand as his post-Governator pic, Sylvester Stallone signed on to star as Ray Breslin, an authority on high security prisons who is framed and incarcerated in a master prison that he designed himself. In a serendipitous development, sources now tell Harry over at AICN that Schwarzenegger is actually circling and discussing with Stallone the possibility of coming onboard in a different role.

The plot concerns Stallone’s character trying to escape the prison, so Schwarzenegger could possibly play a fellow inmate or the man who put Stallone in prison in the first place. Either way, this 80s action star team-up is quite the intriguing prospect. The film is currently without a director, but if Schwarzenegger does indeed sign on Summit will likely want to get things moving quickly. The Governator is set to move on to the supernatural actioner Black Sands after he wraps The Last Stand.

With director Tarsem Singh’s new film Immortals opening this weekend, Collider has been overrun with exclusive interviews with the filmmakers and cast over the past few days.  For those not familiar with Immortals (watch the trailer and clips), the film centers on Theseus (Henry Cavill), a mortal who teams up with the Greek gods in order to defeat the power-hungry King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke).  The film also stars Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Joseph Morgan, Kellan Lutz, and Stephen Dorff.

During my interview with producer Mark Canton, we spoke about the challenge of getting the project made, the comparisons to 300, the practical sets and the 3D, the violence, and working within the budget.  We also talked about Canton’s other projects such as the 300 sequel (300: Battle for Artemisia), Piranha 3DD, Freelancers, The Tomb and Emperor – which will be directed by Burr Steers.  Hit the jump to watch.

Fans have been itching to see a follow-up to Zack Snyder’s 2006 battle epic 300 for quite some time now. After years of wondering if and when we’d ever see a return to the blood-soaked, slow-motion infused world of 300, things are finally coming together for 300: Battle for Artemisia.  Noam Murro (Smart People) is set to direct, and the film is poised to tell the story of Xerxes’ rise to power, punctuated by the epic naval Battle of Artemisium.

Steve recently got the chance to speak with producer Mark Canton for Tarsem Singh’s upcoming Immortals, and Canton gave an update on the 300 follow-up. He commented on the screenplay, the story, and revealed the chances of seeing some of the characters from the original 300 pop up in Battle of Artemisia. Additionally, Canton talked about some of his upcoming projects, including an epic potential franchise-starter project called Emperor that tells the story of young Caesar.  Burr Steers (Charlie St. Cloud) is onboard to direct. Then Willis dropped out and Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger was eyeing the project as a possibility for his first post-governating project. Schwarzenegger eventually chose to go with The Last Stand as his comeback film, then Fuqua dropped out in favor of Southpaw leaving The Tomb director and star-less. Now Variety reports that Sylvester Stallone is breathing new life into the Summit project as he’s come onboard to star (apparently 80’s action superstars are interchangeable).

The film centers on Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. After analyzing numerous high security prisons, Breslin is framed and incarcerated in a master prison that he designed himself, and must now figure out who put him there and, most importantly, find a way out. It’s a pretty nifty concept (reminiscent of The Rock), and could turn out to be fairly cool action pic given the right behind-the-scenes talent. With Stallone now attached, producers are now on the hunt for a director. Stallone, Willis, and Schwarzenegger will all appear together in The Expendables 2.
