The ultimate Twilight collectors set has finally been announced.  While it was all but guaranteed that Twilight fans would be getting a comprehensive Blu-ray collection now that the Twilight saga is complete, we didn’t know for sure when the set might hit shelves.  It was announced today that Twilight Forever: The Complete Saga will be released on both Blu-ray and DVD on November 5th, and it’s quite the set.  The collection includes all 5 Twilight films on either 10 Blu-ray discs (plus Digital HD UltraViolet) or 12 DVDs, plus an exclusive photo album.

In addition to the over 10 hours of extras that have previously been released on home video, Twilight Forever includes over two hours of new bonus content, including retrospective interviews with the cast and previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage.  This is a pretty extensive collectors item, and should make for a swell holiday gift.  Hit the jump to get a closer look at the box set and to read a full list of the special features.

If you’re a Twilight fan, you might want to circle March 2nd on your calendars.  That’s because Summit is releasing an extended cut of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 on home video that weekend which includes eight minutes of new and extended scenes added back in by director Bill Condon.   He said in the press release:

“As Twilight series devotees know, there was a lot of ground to cover in adapting Breaking Dawn to the screen.  Between the wedding, the honeymoon, the birth, and everything in between, naturally there were things that didn’t make it into our final cut.  But I wanted to make sure that for all the Twihards out there, there was a chance to see some of these cut scenes – several of which are fan favorites from the book.”

TOP 5: THE TWILIGHT SAGA Comes to an End, Read Damon Lindelof’s Draft of PROMETHEUS Script, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, More STAR WARS: EPISODE VII News

I try and heed the wise words of Conan O’Brien and resist the urge to be cynical. I really do. But while digging through our The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 coverage in anticipation of this week’s post I stumbled across this poster for the film and all of my best laid plans went to waste. There is just no excuse for a franchise of its stature to have a poster that terrible. I’m far from an expert in graphic design, but mercy…I re-read Adam’s original post several times hoping to find the sentence where he points out that the poster was the Grand Prize winner of Summit’s “Design the Worst Damn Movie Poster Possible” contest. Sadly, there was no mention of such a contest. This was real and it made my heart hurt.

All cynicism aside, in this week’s Top 5, The Twilight Saga comes to a merciful end with interviews and things of the like, Damon Lindelof‘s draft of the Prometheus script becomes available for your reading pleasure, news regarding the debuts of Star Trek Into Darkness‘ first trailer and first 9 minutes of the film surfaces, a handful of images and a video from the set of Thor: The Dark World make their way onto the Interwebs, and believe it or not, more news regarding Star Wars: Episode VII gets discussed. I trust you know where to find a brief recap and link to each.

It’s no surprise that The Twilight Saga will finish with a bang at the box office.  With screenings that began at 10:00pm Thursday to the early morning, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 raked in $30.4 million.  While this isn’t the biggest opening night for the series (Eclipse garnered $30 million from midnight screenings alone), the film is reportedly on track to gross $150 million over the weekend, according to the L.A. Times.  This would give Breaking Dawn – Part 2 the largest weekend opening of the franchise.  We’ll be back with you on Sunday to see how the numbers turned out on this pre-Thanksgiving weekend.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2 Review

It would be a gross understatement to say I haven’t been an ardent supporter of the Twilight franchise.  But I have tried to take each film on its own merits.  Nothing can change the fact that it has a despicable core message of how young women should relate to men, but there was always the potential for change.  Bella Swan could become a proactive character.  Edward Cullen and Jacob Black could be more than just brooding, softly smiling eye candy.  Somewhere, in the dreamy clouds of wish fulfillment, there may be something real instead of the silliest, most forced conflicts.  At the series’ conclusion, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 shows us what the Twilight movies could be at their best, but ultimately reminds us about the true nature of this series.

Four new images from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 have gone online.  Like the majority of images we’ve seen from the upcoming film, these show Bella and her new family being happy as can be.  At worst, the characters are looking at something disconcerting.  Based on the images alone, it looks like the movie is shaping up to be an L.L. Bean catalog where strange things are happening off camera.

A new image from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.  The image has Bella (Kristen Stewart) showing her daughter Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy) a pocket watch.  I’ve seen all the movies to this point, but I don’t remember if a pocket watch was previously mentioned or if this is just Bella pointing out the fine craftsmanship of a well made pocket watch.  Yes, they may be out of date, but that doesn’t mean they’re not classy.  Everything in the series may have been leading to this moment: pocket watch appreciation.  I hope this is the final shot in the movie.

Yesterday, the cast of the Twilight series hit the Hall H stage at Comic-Con for the last time in anticipation of the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 later this year.  Just before the public panel, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and author Stephenie Meyer took part in a press conference and fielded a number of questions regarding the franchise.  You can read the full interview right here, but in case you missed it the group talked briefly about the prospect of rebooting the franchise in the future.

Since Twilight is a highly lucrative property, it only makes sense for a studio down the line to eventually restart the franchise and bring in a new director with a different vision for Meyer’s series.  The actors and Meyer were all asked how they would feel if Twilight was rebooted, and some of their responses may surprise you.  Hit the jump for more.

Comic-Con has released the schedule for Preview Night on Wednesday, July 11th and the full schedule for Thursday, July 12th.  Preview Night won’t just have people trampling each other for Exhibitors Floor merchandise.  It will also have screenings of the pilots for Arrow, 666 Park Avenue, The Following, Revolution, and Cult.  As for Thursday, Comic-Con has wisely scheduled The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 as the first panel of the day in Hall H (although it doesn’t start until almost 1:00pm for some reason), so all the Twihards can get in, see the panel, and get on with their lives.  For the rest of the day, Hall H will play host to Frankenweenie, Oz the Great and Powerful, Wreck-It Ralph, Jackie Chan’s CZ12, The Expendables 2, and…not much else really.  No offense to Chan, but his directorial feature CZ12 is going to be packed only because Expendables 2 is coming afterwards.

On the TV side, there will be panels for returning series Psych, Wilfred, Archer, Nikita, Dexter, and Workaholics.  There will also be panels for new series Beauty and the Beast and Elementary.  Hit the jump for highlights from the Wednesday and Thursday schedules.  The 2012 San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 12 – 15th.
