TOGETHERNESS Trailer Offers a First Look at the Duplass Brothers’ New HBO Comedy Series

HBO has released the first Togetherness trailer for the upcoming comedy series from filmmaking brothers Mark and Jay Duplass (Cyrus, Jeff Who Lives at Home).  The show follows two couples living under the same roof, going through relationship difficulties as each individual pursues his or her own dream.  This trailer is a strong introduction to the show, as it looks to be a relationship comedy with a bit of a cynical edge.  Mark Duplass also stars in the show alongside Melanie Lynskey, Steve Zissis, and Amanda Peet.

HBO Sets January Premiere Dates for New Seasons of GIRLS and LOOKING, Plus New Duplass Brothers Comedy TOGETHERNESS

HBO has announced return dates for two comedies series along with a debut date for a new offering.  The fourth season of Girls, the second season of Looking, and the first season of Togetherness will all premiere on Sunday, January 11th.  While Girls and Looking are both classified as “comedies”, they’re a far cry from the traditional definition of the word.  The San Francisco-centric Looking premiered last year to so-so ratings, but HBO stuck with the series and renewed it nevertheless.  While I wasn’t crazy about the show overall, it’s very different from the rest of HBO’s lineup and adds some nice diversity to the pay cable channel’s original series offerings.

Togetherness, meanwhile, comes from the filmmaking duo of Mark and Jay Duplass and stars Mark, Melanie Lynskey, Steve Zissis, and Amanda Peet as two couples that live under one roof.  Girls will kick the night off at 9pm, followed by Togetherness at 9:30 and Looking at 10.  Check out the first Togetherness image after the jump.

Girls, Veep, Family Tree, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Eastbound & Down—that is a solid, eclectic comedy roster on HBO.  Still, with Eastbound & Down and down entering its final season and Curb Your Enthusiasm waiting on Larry David‘s desire to a ninth season, HBO is looking to bring more comedies to the network.  They ordered Mike Judge‘s Silicon Valley; a dramedy about a group of San Francisco gay men starring Jonathan Groff; Stephen Merchant‘s Hello Ladies, and British import Getting On to series.

Togetherness is the latest to receive a series order from HBO.  The half-hour comedy developed by the Duplass Brothers follows two couples living under the same roof going through relationship difficulties as each individual pursues their own dreams.  Mark Duplass, Melanie LynskeyAmanda Peet, and Steve Zissis star. HBO Renews GIRLS For a Third Season, Also Orders Pilot From Duplass Brothers

In a move that surprises no one, HBO has renewed its highly discussed, popular and divisive series Girls for a third season with an expanded episode count, totaling twelve.  The series was already brought back early this year (returning in January after premiering last spring in April with the sharp political comedy Veep), and HBO seems eager to ride the zeitgeist wave and bring even more of the series as fast as it can.

Elsewhere, the premium cable channel has ordered a half-hour pilot from Jay and Mark Duplass who are set to write, direct and produce (though not star or appear in) the series called Togetherness.  Togetherness will focus on two couples living under one roof, working through their relationships and pursuing their dreams.  Hit the jump for more.
