We’ve got casting news for every taste this evening. Here’s the latest:

• Noah Emmerich will be teaming up with Warrior director, Gavin O’Connor once again. This time for the production-troubled Western Jane Got a Gun.

• Tom Holland (The Impossible) has joined the ensemble of Ron Howard’s whaling drama In The Heart Of The Sea.

• Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) is ready for another frontier round, as she joins the cast of Tommy Lee Jones’ The Homesman.

Expanding this weekend in more theaters is director Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible.  Based on a true story, the film stars Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor as the parents of three boys vacationing in Thailand in 2004 when the tsunami hit.  Having survived, but finding themselves separated, the family members search for each other amidst the chaos, encountering strangers caught up in the same situation along the way.  The film also stars Tom Holland, Samuel Joslin, and Oaklee Pendergast.  For more on The Impossible, here are eight clips and the trailer.

At the recent Los Angeles press day I got to speak to Tom Holland.  We talked about how he got involved in the movie, the transition from stage to screen, what surprised him about making a movie, and more.  In addition, Holland talked about Kevin Macdonald’s How I Live Now which also stars Saoirse Ronan.  Hit the jump to watch.

A new U.K. trailer for the disaster drama The Impossible has been released.  Based on a true story, the film stars Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor as parents of a family caught in the tsunami that hit southeast Asia in 2004.  The tsunami scenes here look more terrifying than ever, but this trailer also has a strong focus on the human drama side of the story.  The pic premiered last month at the Toronto Film Festival to mostly positive reviews, with many noting director J.A. Bayona’s impressive work on the tsunami scenes.  The film also drew some criticism for being overly manipulative, but I’m a big fan of McGregor and Watts so I’m eager to see how this one plays out.

• Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard) is in talks to star in the adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, The Ten O’Clock People.
• Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story) is the latest addition to the White House thriller Olympus Has Fallen, starring Aaron Eckhart and Gerard Butler.
• Oscar Isaac (Drive) is in negotiations to star opposite Viggo Mortensen in Hossein Amini’s The Two Faces of January.

Director Tom Holland and author Stephen King are reuniting once again to bring another one of King’s works to the big screen.  Deadline reports that Holland, who directed Thinner and The Langoliers, will write and direct an adaptation of King’s short story The Ten O’Clock People.  The story originally appeared in King’s 1993 Nightmares and Dreamscapes collection and centers on a man in Boston “who in trying to kick his smoking habit uncovers a frightening aspect of reality that he plans to extinguish through extreme measures.”

The story was King trying to kick his own smoking habit, and Holland plans on making the film “a modernization” of that original story in the vein of a paranoid suspense piece.  In addition to Thinner and The Langoliers, Holland also direct the original Fright Night and Child’s Play.

We’ve got another batch of posters and synopses from the American Film Market, including promo posters and synopses for Tarzan 3D and The Impossible, as well as an official synopsis for the feature film adaptation of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The new adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic tale Tarzan comes in the form of a 3D animated adaptation. Reinhard Klooss (Animals United) is directing from a script that Klooss co-wrote with Jessica Postigo (The Mortal Instruments). Additionally, The Impossible comes from The Orphanage director J.A. Bayona and stars Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, and Tom Holland. The film tells the true story of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, as Watts races to find and save her family from the ensuing flood.

Finally, we’ve got the official synopsis for the feature film adaptation of the popular teen book series The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The 3D film stars Lily Collins as a girl who is transported to another world when she meets a mysterious half-angel known as a Shadowhunter. Hit the jump to see the promo posters and synopses.

I hope you’ll pardon the “Top 5′s” lack of punctuality this week. I just returned from a set visit in Louisiana and WiFi was at a premium throughout most of my travels. Although I can say almost nothing about the visit as of now, just know that I arrived there just a touch on the cynical douche side and left really looking forward to the next entry in an iconic horror franchise.

With that out of the way, let’s get to the reason we’re all here: the stories. In this week’s installment, you’ll find fifteen things to know about Summit Entertainment’s upcoming alien invasion pic The Darkest Hour, a dinner/interview with Paul‘s Simon Pegg and Greg Mottola, a recap of the Alamo Drafthouse’s screening of the original Fright Night featuring a Q&A with director Tom Holland, Bryan Cranston talking Breaking Bad, Drive, his near appearance in X-Men: First Class among other things, and the latest iteration of our video/audio podcast For Your Consideration. Last week, director Tom Holland (Child’s Play, Fright Night, Cloak and Dagger) and Alvaro Rodriguez (Machete) took the stage inside the Alamo Drafthouse’s Ritz location.  Their purpose?  To present Holland’s cult-classic, Fright Night, just weeks before the Fright Night remake arrives in theaters.  Now, admitting this will probably get my film-geek credentials revoked, but…until one night earlier this week, I’d never seen Holland’s infamous vampire flick.  Aborted attempts were made to watch the film just a few months ago, but something always seemed to get in the way.  And so, when the opportunity arose to see the film on the Drafthouse’s best screen–with the director conducting a post-show Q&A– I knew I needed to be there.  So.  Did the film live up its reputation?  Did Holland have anything interesting to say about the making of the film?  And just how does he feel about Fright Night being remade?  Find out after the jump, folks….

Universal has already issued their horror releases for Halloween, and I’ve already reviewed them, so I’m reviewing half of the 20^th Century Fox releases for Halloween. Child’s Play, and Wrong Turns one and two. At least two of these movies are pretty good. My reviews after the jump.
