Last week a post on the Alamo Drafthouse blog revealed that the Mondo crew would be hosting a special screening at a Houston-area Drafthouse on February 16th. The setup was familiar to anyone who’s ever attended a Mondo Mystery Movie: buy a ticket, show up, find out what movie you’re there to see, watch said movie, and then collect a limited-edition screenprint based on that film on your way out the door. Based on this description, many believed that next weekend’s screening actually was the next Mondo Mystery Movie.
Turns out, it’s not! On Feb. 16th Mondo will screen Battle Royale in Houston, and every ticket sold includes a special poster created by the dynamic duo of Kevin Tong and Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. Wanna know everything else we know at the moment? Meet me after the jump, folks.

I’m a big fan of Tugg, especially since they had The Princess Bride in their library, which allowed us to host an awesome screening of the film back in October. Tugg has added more titles to their library, and they’ve lined up a nice variety of holiday movies. There are the ones that are fun for the whole family like Elf, Miracle on 34th Street, and Christmas Vacation, but they also have the films that are for a more mature audience. While Tugg bills them as “feel-bad”, I don’t feel anything but joy from watching Die Hard and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.
Hit the jump to check out “Tugg’s Top 8 Feel-Bad Holiday Films”. And for Atlanta readers, we’re hosting a screening of one of these movies… Look for an announcement soon.

Before I begin, I would like to thank every single person who attended our screening of The Princess Bride. You were an amazing crowd, and you made that screening a reality. I’m pleased to announce what we’re planning for our next screening: Mike Judge‘s Office Space. We need 58 people to sign up for the screening on October 18th at 7:30pm at The Plaza. Tickets cost $10.00. We only have 3 days to make this happen, so if you live in Atlanta, appreciate the site, and want to see a beloved film on the big screen, then click over here and sign up. Remember, you’ll only be charged if the screening happens. If not enough people sign up, then the screening won’t happen, and that would suck. I know it’s a short amount of time, but you guys made The Princess Bride a reality in less than 48 hours, and it’s going to be great seeing Office Space with a crowd.
So if you could tell your friends via word of mouth, tweeting this link, and posting it on Facebook, that would be greeeeeat. Hit the jump to check out the trailer for Office Space.

Earlier this year, we told you about Tugg.com, a service that lets customers bring films come to their local theaters. Promoters set up a screening, and if enough people want to see the movie, then the screening will happen. It’s like Kickstarter but for screening awesome films. Today, we’ve set up an Atlanta screening of Rob Reiner‘s The Princess Bride to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary. We need 54 people to sign up for the screening on October 4th at 7:30pm at The Plaza. Tickets cost $10.00. We only have 12 days to make this happen, so if you live in Atlanta, appreciate the site, and want to see a classic film on the big screen, than click over here and sign up. Remember, you’ll only be charged if the screening happens. If not enough people sign up, then the screening won’t happen, and that would suck because it’s going to be great to see this film on the big screen.
Also, be sure to tell your friends via word of mouth, tweeting this link, and posting it on Facebook. Hit the jump to check out the trailer for The Princess Bride.

Though director Scott Derrickson’s (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) horror film Sinister doesn’t open for a couple more weeks, fans have the chance to bring a preview screening of the film to their hometown early. For those unaware, the pic stars Ethan Hawke as a true crime novelist who moves his family into a house where the horrific murder of an entire family took place in an effort to discover his next big story. When he finds a box of home videos in which other families are also brutally murdered, he realizes he may have made a huge mistake by moving into the house. Derrickson’s Emily Rose was pretty great, and early word on Sinister has been promising.
The fantastic service Tugg.com, which allows film fans to bring theatrical screenings of movies new and old to their hometown theater, is sponsoring the preview screenings. Hit the jump to find out how to bring a Sinister screening to your city in advance of the film’s October 5th release.

One of the problems with being a film lover is that a lot of times, many of the movies you really want to see have no chance in hell of playing anywhere near you. You’re forced to wait for the DVD release of films that get a lot of chatter on the internets and such, like Shame or Martha Marcy May Marlene. Late last month we reported on a promising new service that aims to rectify this very issue. Tugg.com allows fans to campaign for films to screen at their local theater, and a necessary amount of people commit to attending a requested screening, Tugg will reserve the theater and ensure delivery of the film straight to your city.
Tugg.com announced today that SXSW Film Festival favorites The FP and The Loved Ones are now available theatrically through their program. The FP is a pretty ridiculous comedy set in a near post-apocalyptic future that focuses on two rival gangs who due out a turf way by way of a Dance Dance Revolution-type game. Conversely, The Loved Ones is described as Sixteen Candles meets The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and centers on a girl who takes matters into her own hands when a guy declines to go to the prom with her. Hit the jump to find out how you can request screenings of both films.

Although Atlanta is a major city, we don’t get indie films for a long time. We Need to Talk about Kevin opened in New York on December 9th but it won’t open where I live until March 2nd. Instead, we wait for indie films to come to one of our three art house cinemas, and the multiplex is stuffed with Safe House playing on 12 screens. I understand the thinking behind the system, but it still sucks, and I’m hoping Tugg.com is going to change it. The company sent out a press release today announcing that they were working with major exhibition chains like Regal and AMC to let consumers campaign for what plays in their local theaters.
Hit the jump for more.
