Hayley Atwell Hides a Gun in First AGENT CARTER Clip

by     Posted 5 days ago

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is officially on winter hiatus, which means the debut of Marvel’s Agent Carter is just around the corner, and now the first Agent Carter clip has landed online.  The series follows the character of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) from Captain America: The First Avenger, as she navigates the gender politics of 1946 while working as an administrative assistant for the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) and dabbling in spy work for Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) on the side.  I’m not crazy about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but Agent Carter has real promise and this first clip offers a preview of how Carter hides her double life from her roommate.  On an aesthetic level, the colors and costumes are a step up from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though I’m curious to see if the fuzzy lens (it’s old-timey, see!) becomes a distraction or works well in concert with the rest of the show.

Check out the first Agent Carter clip after the jump.  The show also stars James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, Chad Michael Murray as Agent Jack Thompson, Enver Gjokaj as Agent Daniel Sousa and Shea Whigham as Chief Roger Dooley.  The two-hour Agent Carter premiere airs on ABC Tuesday, January 6th.

Exclusive: Jessica Chastain, Shailene Woodley and More Talk Acting, Secrecy, and More in Clips from Epix’s HOLLYWOOD SESSIONS

by     Posted 9 days ago

With awards season on the way, actors are lining up to plug their movies in the hopes that the pictures might get Academy voters to sit up and pay attention.  As for general audiences, people like listening to celebrities, and Epix and the L.A. Times have teamed up to co-produce Hollywood Sessions, a five-part TV series of hour-long episodes featuring conversations with popular actors.  Today, we have exclusive clips from a group conversation with actresses Jessica Chastain, Shailene Woodley, Jennifer Aniston, Emily Blunt, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.  While there aren’t any hard-hitting questions, there are nice little anecdotes like Chastain talking about the secrecy surrounding the Interstellar script and Woodley’s insightful answer about how loss-of-virginity scenes are handled in movies.

Hit the jump to watch the Hollywood Sessions clips.  The series will premiere on December 8th at 8pm ET/PT on Epix, and also features interviews with Steve Carell, Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Stone, and Christoph Waltz.

First Look at George Clooney in the Upcoming DOWNTON ABBEY Short Film

by     Posted 15 days ago

It’s rare for a British period soap opera to become a cultural phenomenon, and it’s even rarer for it to net an A-list movie star.  Downton Abbey, arguably the silliest drama on television, is set to premiere a short film on their British network ITV over the holiday season to promote the network’s “Text Santa” charity initiative.  George Clooney will pitch in by making a guest appearance, although there are currently no details about his character or the size of his role.

A brief clip from the special has been released online, and it provides no further information other than Cora looking like she’s mistaken his character for Lord Gratham.  Or perhaps she’s just calling him “Dearest” because, let’s face it, George Clooney is everyone’s dearest.  Hit the jump to check out the Downton Abbey short film clip.  The movie will premiere on ITV on December 18th.  The show’s fifth season has already aired in the U.K., and will premiere in the U.S. on January 5th on PBS.

New BETTER CALL SAUL Clip Features Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut: Parking Attendant

by     Posted 17 days ago

During tonight’s mid-season finale of The Walking Dead, AMC aired a new Better Call Saul clip.  The prequel series is set in 2002, and shows how Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became the sleazy lawyer we met in Breaking Bad.  In this clip, we see that Saul’s belittling attitude was already part of his personality as he confronts everyone’s favorite, beleaguered fixer Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks).  In the clip, Mike is working as a parking attendant, and his refusal to let Saul park his car leads to a fight we know Saul is going to lose badly.  Whether this relationship grows into a substantial part of the overall plot or is just a cameo for the fans remains to be seen.

Hit the jump to check out the Better Call Saul clip.  The Breaking Bad spinoff series premieres on February 8, 2015.

John Oliver Shoots Salmon at Jon Stewart, David Letterman, J.J. Abrams on the STAR WARS Set, and Many More in Excellent LAST WEEK TONIGHT Clip

by     Posted 37 days ago

The first season finale of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver aired last night on HBO, wrapping up a fantastic debut run of John Oliver’s comedic news program.  While I was initially a tad skeptical of The Daily Show alum Oliver striking out on his own with an HBO series in the vein of The Daily Show, I think he did a wonderful job of carving out his own kind of series that proved to be both incredibly funny and also enlightening.  Instead of just riffing on the week’s news stories, Oliver’s Last Week Tonight went one better and ventured into a kind of investigative journalism that saw his team doing in-depth research on topics ranging from payday loans to the suspect “non-profit” nature of the Miss America program.

During last night’s finale episode, Oliver ended things with a bit on a salmon shooter (a real thing) that was featured on CBS.  Oliver and the Last Week Tonight team put together their own “salmon shooter”, resulting in a glorious series of cameos from faces both familiar and unexpected—including a certain Star Wars appearance.  Watch the Last Week Tonight salmon shooter clip after the jump, and if you’ve never seen the show, I highly suggest checking it out on HBO Go.

First AGENT CARTER Clip: Peggy Meets Jarvis in Extended Look at Marvel’s New ABC Series

by     Posted 43 days ago

ABC unveiled an extended look at its second Marvel series this evening during a television special recounting the history of Marvel, and now the lengthy Agent Carter clip has been released online for those that missed it.  The bulk of the footage consists of a clip in which Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter discusses a secret mission with Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper), after which she engages with Stark’s butler Jarvis (James D’Arcy), who serves as the basis for Tony Stark’s computer system in the modern day MCU.  The direction and blocking in the clip is oddly stilted and more than a little cheesy, but I’m intrigued by the show’s promise of exploring gender politics in the post-World War II workplace.  Moreover, the final sequence in the clip showcases some solid action from Atwell’s character.

Take a look at the extended Agent Carter clip for yourself after the jump.  The show also stars Chad Michael Murray, Enver Gjokai, and Shea WhighamAgent Carter will air on ABC Tuesdays starting in January 2015.

PHINEAS AND FERB Clip Featuring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s SHAUN OF THE DEAD Cameo

by     Posted 76 days ago

Should I be watching Phineas and Ferb?  I assumed it was a kids-only thing due to the rather goofy animation and the fact that it airs on the Disney Channel, but if Shaun and Ed from Shaun of the Dead are on it, it’s got to have a more mature appeal too, right?  (Plus I’m mildly amused by the fact that the show features a pet platypus named Perry.)

I’ve never seen a single episode of the show so I don’t really know, but the Halloween season special, “Night of the Living Pharmacists,” actually sounds like a lot of fun and it’s got Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in it as well.  Hit the jump to check out their cameo in a Phineas and Ferb clip from the Halloween episode.

First Clip from SOUTH PARK: Season 18 Premiere Takes Aim at the Washington Redskins

by     Posted 87 days ago

Even though it’s only been a year and there’s even been a video game in the interim, it seems like forever since we got a new episode of South Park.  Thankfully, the wait is almost over as the show will be returning for its 18th(!) season this Wednesday.  The first clip for the new season aired during today’s Redskins-Eagles game, which was no accident since the show’s first target this year will be the offensive name of Washington’s football team.  The NFL has been in the news a lot the past few weeks, so it will be interesting to see if Trey Parker and Matt Stone weave those elements into their scathing satire as well.

Hit the jump to check out the clip from the Season 18 premiere of South Park.  The long-running series returns on Wednesday at 10pm EST on Comedy Central.

Alfred Molina Hedges His Bets in Exclusive MATADOR Clip from Episode 5

by     Posted 131 days ago

We have an exclusive Matador clip from the show’s next episode to debut today.  From writer/producer Roberto Orci, the 13-episode series airs on the newly launched El Rey network and revolves around an undercover CIA operative masquerading as a professional soccer star.  Gabriel Luna leads the show as Tony “Matador” Bravo, who uses his skills to get close to LA Riot team owner Galan (Alfred Molina).  This clip is from the show’s fifth episode, “Enter the Worm”, as we see Molina’s villainous character explaining one of his sinister plans.

Hit the jump to watch the Matador clip, and look for our full set visit report next week.  If you missed our recent on-set interview with Luna or Tanc Sade about the series click the links.  Matador airs on El Rey Tuesdays at 9pm ET/PT.

THE WALKING DEAD Clip: Check out a Brief Scene from the Upcoming Season

by     Posted 164 days ago

AMC has released a 30-second The Walking Dead teaser clip from the upcoming fifth season.  I don’t keep up with the show, but from what I know about it, this clip seems spot on: humans are afraid of zombies, and the zombie makeup effects are awesome.  Beyond that, I leave it to the fans to sound off on this brief teaser.

Hit the jump to check out The Walking Dead clip.  The series stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Emily Kinney, Danai Gurira, Chad Coleman, and Sonequa Martin-GreenThe Walking Dead returns this October.

Watch One of the Most Elaborate Dick Jokes in History from the SILICON VALLEY Season Finale

by     Posted 197 days ago

Creator Mike Judge’s new comedy series Silicon Valley just concluded its freshman season on HBO, and while arguably the best part of the series has been lost (Christopher Evan Welch, who played the eccentric Peter Gregory, sadly passed away during filming), there’s still a lot to love about the show.  Case in point, the season finale included what is quite possibly the most elaborate dick joke ever told on film, and it is glorious.  The clip landed online yesterday, but as of right now HBO has not yet pulled it down.  I assume this means they’re fine with everyone sharing it because it’s so damn funny.  If you haven’t seen Silicon Valley, take a gander at what your missing, and if you have, the joke is still just as funny the second time around.

Hit the jump to watch the Silicon Valley clip, and click here to read Allison’s review of the season finale.  HBO has already renewed the series for a second season, which will likely debut early next year.  The show stars Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Amanda Crew, and Zach Woods.

star wars rebels clip

This weekend at WonderCon, Disney premiered the first Star Wars Rebels clip.  The animated series will take place about 14 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and centers on the fledgling rebellion as the Empire hunts down the last of the Jedi Knights to secure rule of the galaxy.  I never watched any of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, so I don’t know how this will compare, but I assume it’s going for the same audience.

Hit the jump to check out the clip.  Star Wars Rebels is scheduled to premiere in the fall as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, and will be followed by a series on Disney XD.
