The Star Trek Into Darkness marketing blitz rolls on with three more TV spots for the upcoming sequel. A couple of the TV spots hammer home the same plot points we’ve seen before: Kirk (Chris Pine) needs to be responsible, the villain “John Harrison” (Benedict Cumberbatch) is really sinister, etc. But the third spot is an interesting evaluation of Uhura (Zoe Saldana) by Harrison. We saw this kind of evaluation before with Spock (Zachary Quinto), but the evaluation of Uhura sneaks in a couple frames of an unmasked Klingon. I’m not exactly sure why they needed masks in the first place, but as far as the design goes, it’s fairly subdued. However, in the TV series, the Klingons (from TNG onwards, which is when they got their distinctive foreheads) have different craniums. They have ridges, but the ridges vary from Klingon to Klingon, so we don’t know if that will be the case with Abrams’ film or if he’s gone for a uniform design.
Hit the jump to check out the TV spots and first image of an unmasked Klingon. The film also stars Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and Alice Eve. Star Trek Into Darkness opens in IMAX 3D on May 15th and in 3D and 2D on May 17th.

While those of us in the U.S. will have to wait until May 3rd to see Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, much of the world will see it in just one short week. A huge player in the film’s production, plot and eventual box office is, of course, China. As such, a new Chinese TV spot has popped up, which reveals some new Chinese-version-only footage as well as some shots from the recent traveling press tour.
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall and Guy Pearce, Iron Man 3 premieres in London tonight and opens in Hong Kong on April 25th. Hit the jump to watch the new TV spot.

Warner Bros. has released a new extended TV spot for director Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby. This TV spot appears to be geared towards the younger crowd, as it plays up the “Jazz Age” aspects of the film while highlighting Gatsby’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) lively parties and the flashier moments from the film. While I’ve mostly been onboard with the new music Luhrmann has showcased in the previous trailers, Fergie’s “jazz-pop” track that accompanies this new TV spot is just plain awful. Here’s hoping it doesn’t have a major showcase within the narrative of the film.
Hit the jump to watch the new extended TV spot, which also includes quite a bit of new footage. The film also stars Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Adelaide Clemens, and Jason Clarke. The Great Gatsby opens in 3D on May 10th.

A couple of debut TV spots have made their way online. First up, Warner Bros. has released the first international TV spot for director Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming “robots vs. monsters” movie Pacific Rim. The story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity. To fight back, the humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots. This TV spot does a great job of selling the epic nature of the story, and I really can’t wait to see this thing on the biggest screen possible. The film opens in 2D and 3D on July 12th.
Additionally, Sony has released a TV spot for director M. Night Shyamalan’s sci-fi film After Earth. The film stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith as a father and son who crash land on a post-apocalyptic Earth, and it’s up to the son to fight for survival when the father is seriously injured. There are a couple of shots of new footage here, including a look at a rather ginormous creature. The film opens on June 7th. Hit the jump to check out both TV spots.

A new international TV spot has been released for Iron Man 3, and MTV just aired a clip from the upcoming superhero flick. Thankfully, neither the clip nor the TV spot are big on spoilers. It’s just selling the hell out of the action, and that really can’t be spoiled since it’s going to be far more effective on the big screen than it is on your computer monitor or television. My larger concern is if the 3D will help or hinder the picture.
Hit the jump to check out the clip and the TV spot. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, and Ben Kingsley. Iron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3rd.

Disney has released a new TV spot and character poster for director Gore Verbinski’s upcoming iteration of The Lone Ranger. Based on the classic TV series of the same name, the film stars Armie Hammer as the titular hero and Johnny Depp as the sidekick Tonto. This TV spot has a very heavy focus on the pic’s train-centered action sequences, and admittedly the CG looks a bit spotty. Verbinski delivered some swell set pieces in his Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, though, so hopefully we’ll see the same quality on display in The Lone Ranger. Additionally, on the heels of a couple of character posters for Hammer and Depp, Disney has released a new poster for Helena Bonham Carter’s character Red Harrington, who is described as a “dramatically coiffed, straight-talking, ivory-legged proprietor of a mobile establishment of lavish entertainments.” I’m pretty sure that’s fancy talk for Madam.
Hit the jump to check out the TV spot and poster. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, and Ruth Wilson. The Lone Ranger opens on July 3rd.

Warner Bros. released the first TV spot for Man of Steel tonight during the college basketball championship*. It confirms the main takeways of the trailers: director Zack Snyder makes stylish use of a couple hundred million dollars, and star Henry Cavill sure does look the part. (Cavill, casually aflame, shirtless, is the coolest thing I’ve seen all week.) It’s the story that will make or break the movie, but Superman comes pre-made as a compelling character, so I have high hopes for Man of Steel when it opens on June 14.
Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, and Russell Crowe also star. Watch the spot after the break.

The first TV spot for Todd Phillips’ The Hangover Part III is now available. The short teaser shows glimpses of where the Wolfpack is headed for the concluding chapter in their trilogy and it ain’t all in Vegas. Instead of a bachelor party blowout or a wedding to attend at the last second, the guys appear to start off at a funeral before participating in a prison riot, running for their lives in the desert and buying a giraffe. Classic.
Starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Justin Bartha, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor and John Goodman, The Hangover Part III opens May 24th. Hit the jump to watch the TV spot.

Warner Bros. has released the first TV spot for director Baz Luhrmann’s (Moulin Rouge) adaptation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel The Great Gatsby. For those unfamiliar with the source material, the story centers on a would-be writer (Tobey Maguire) chasing the American dream who moves to New York City in the spring of 1922 and encounters a mysterious millionaire named Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). This TV spot features quite a bit of new footage, and I’m incredibly eager to see Fitzgerald’s novel adapted for the screen by way of Luhrmann’s bombastic, colorful, and vibrant vision.
Hit the jump to watch the new TV spot. The film also stars Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, and Adelaide Clemens. The Great Gatsby opens in 3D on May 10th.

Universal has unveiled a bounty of goodies from director Joseph Kosinski’s upcoming sci-fi pic Oblivion. The featurettes focus on Kosinski’s desire to do as many of the film’s visual effects in camera as possible, and it’s absolutely fascinating to see how he pulled off some of these tricks. For scenes in the film’s skytower, instead of using a blue screen to fill out the sky background, Kosinski actually projected footage of the real sky (which he shot in Maui) 360 degrees around the set, so everything the audience sees in the background is practical. The other featurette focuses on the creation of the pic’s “bubble ship,” and it’s another interesting look into Kosinski’s strong flair for design.

With the season premiere of Game of Thrones less than a week away, HBO has continued their marketing onslaught by releasing a new promo and a new featurette. The promo once again reminds us that the dragons are going to be a big factor in the new season, and as for the featurette, I highly encourage you to watch it. It goes into detail about creating the world of the Wildlings, and the amount of effort and detail that makes the world come alive. You probably won’t notice these details when watching the show, but subconsciously they make the world believable. This is the case for all of the settings on the series, but showing the technical work in creating the life beyond The Wall is a fine example of how the show’s technical departments work their magic. The featurette also devotes time to new character Mance Rayder (played by the great Ciaran Hinds).
Hit the jump to check out the promo and the featurette. Also, be sure to check out Allison’s recap of Season Two. Game of Thrones premieres on March 31st at 9/8c.
