TV ratings for Thursday, April 24th are in.  Here’s a brief look at the highlights:

  • The excellent (and surprising) hourlong season finale of Parks and Recreation ticked up a tenth from last week’s series low to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and scored 2.71 million viewers.  While those aren’t exactly sky-high numbers, NBC has already renewed the show for a seventh—and likely final—season.
  • The new CBS comedy Bad Teacher got off to an iffy start with a 2.1 rating and 7.87 million viewers, which is an improvement over The Crazy Ones’ most recent performance in the time period but still CBS’ second lowest rated comedy debut ever, next to We Are Men.

TV ratings for Thursday, March 13th are in, though the preliminary numbers for CBS and the CW may be inaccurate due to preemptions and delays.  Here’s a brief rundown:

  • NBC’s Community was even with last week’s series low 1.0 rating and scored 2.89 million viewers, while Parks and Recreation didn’t fare much better by dropping two tenths to a 1.1 rating and 2.73 million viewers. Parenthood, meanwhile, was even with last week’s 1.2 rating and garnered 3.87 million viewers.  For some perspective on the shifting low-rated sitcom landscape, I highly suggest reading Vulture’s recent piece on the matter.

Thursday TV Ratings: COMMUNITY Returns to Premiere Low; THE BIG BANG THEORY Rises

Thursday evening’s TV ratings are in.  Here’s a brief rundown:

  • NBC’s Community returned for its fifth season (with Dan Harmon back as showrunner to boot) to a premiere low 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.03 million viewers.  That’s down six tenths from last year’s 1.9 debut for the lackluster fourth season, but it wouldn’t be Community without low-yet-manageable ratings.  Though the 1.3 is indeed a disappointing rating, it speaks to NBC’s troubled comedy lineup that this number is enough to keep Community afloat for now.
  • Over on CBS, The Big Bang Theory returned to a whopping 5.3 rating and 18.93 million viewers, easily destroying everything else in both demo ratings and total viewership.  That’s up two tenths from its last original episode’s 5.1 rating.
