Watch the First Four Minutes of Moon Nazi Movie IRON SKY

Early last month, a peculiar little trailer popped up on the web for a movie called Iron Sky. I had never heard of the film, but I gave the trailer a go because I read something about moon Nazis and I thought to myself, “That can’t be right.” But no, a movie about moon Nazis does, in fact, exist and now the first four minutes of the film are online for your viewing pleasure. The premise rests on the fact that the Nazis landed on the moon 70 years ago and are now primed and ready for an all-out invasion of Earth. These first four minutes all take place on the moon and center on a couple of American astronauts who have just landed and decide to take a look around. Yes, the encounter moon Nazis.

Hit the jump to watch the clip. The film stars Udo Kier, Julia Dietze and Christopher Kirby. You can read Matt’s review right here. Iron Sky opens in the UK and Finland on April 4th, and hits theaters stateside sometime this year.

SXSW 2012: IRON SKY Review

There are no half-measures when it comes to moon Nazis.  The very phrase “moon Nazi” invites laughter.  There’s no room for serious consideration, and even biting satire can be a stretch.  It’s a goofy premise ripe for B-movie fun, and Iron Sky has no problem playing the fool and being silly right up until it begins to believe that people came to a movie about moon Nazis for CGI space battles and anything resembling dramatic contemplation.  Director Timo Vuorensola forgets that when you make a movie involving moon Nazis, you must always stay true to the moon Nazis and the ridiculousness they embody.

The date is set for Iron Sky’s Moon Nazis to invade the UK and Finland on April 4th, with Germany getting the film a day later. But those of us stateside aren’t sure when to expect our own invasion. Variety reports that Entertainment One is negotiating to acquire the North American rights. The film, by Finnish director Timo Vuorensola, is set in the year 2018 and features the Fourth Reich, a fleet of Nazi spaceships intent on invading the Earth. Starring Julia Dietze (Love in Thoughts), Christopher Kirby (The Matrix Reloaded) and Udo Kier (Blade), the film won audiences over at the Berlin Film Festival after having sold out tickets in an hour. To see what all the fuss was about, hit the jump to check out the trailer and some images from Iron Sky.

Beware of Moon Nazis: Official Trailer for IRON SKY

Iron Sky has one of those nutty premises I absolutely love.  The story is that Nazis landed on the moon 70 years ago and have been biding their time to launch an invasion.  They decide they’ve been waiting long enough, take to their fleet of flying saucers, and begin a full scale attack of Earth.  Not wacky enough? There’s also a Sarah Palin parody as the U.S. President, and the film takes place six years from now.  Also, the movie co-stars Udo Kier.  But in the end: moon Nazis.

Trailer for Lars Von Trier’s MELANCHOLIA Starring Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg

What’s wonderful about director Lars von Trier’s films is that you never know what to expect.  Sometimes the outcome works and other times it doesn’t, but it will be a film-going experience unlike any other.  For example, his latest film Melancholia picks up from a normal, relatable setting—a wedding—and then goes totally batshit from there with a newly discovered planet that might collide with Earth.  Melancholia is billed as “a psychological disaster movie” and “a beautiful movie about the end of the world”. Also, going by the trailer, Kirsten Dunst might have super powers.  I have no idea what to make of Melancholia, and I can’t wait to see it.

First Look at Guy Maddin’s KEYHOLE

The first images from Guy Maddin’s (The Saddest Music in the World) latest film Keyhole have hit the web. The film stars Jason Patric, Isabella Rossellini, Udo Kier (Blade) and Kevin McDonald (Kids in the Hall) and tells the vastly twisted tale of a deadbeat father/gangster on an odyssey to his bedroom. So, “vastly twisted” may have been a bit of a understatement. Hit the jump to check out some of the images as well as a synopsis for the flick.

Kirsten Dunst May Replace Penélope Cruz in Lars Von Trier’s MELANCHOLIA

by     Posted: April 15th, 2010 at 4:11 pm

kirsten_dunst_image__1_.jpgDespite a reputation that director Lars Von Trier puts his leading ladies through hell during production (Björk reportedly swore off acting after Dancer in the Dark), he continues to work with some of cinema’s finest: Emily Watson, Nicole Kidman, Bryce Dallas Howard, and most recently, Charlotte Gainsbourg.   Von Trier was nearly able to cross Penélope Cruz off of his list for the upcoming sci-fi disaster flick Melancholia, but he ultimately lost out to Jack Sparrow when she signed on for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides instead.

Now Deadline reports that the Dane may have found a respectable replacement in Mary Jane Watson herself, Kirsten Dunst.  If the young actress signs on, she’ll join Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, Alexander Skarsgaard, Stellan Skarsgaard and Udo Kier for a summer shoot in Sweden.  Dunst will soon be seen alongside Jim Sturges (Across the Universe) in Upside Down, a film whose plot synopsis I adore, so I’ll include it after the jump.

Three TIFF ’09 Films That Came Up Short – MY SON, MY SON WHAT HAVE YE DONE?, THE GOOD HEART, and HARRY BROWN

As a movie fan, there are times that I wish I could say “once more, with feeling,” and watch films with interesting premises and paths suddenly replay with the feeling and intrigue that they’re sorely lacking – the missing ingredient that could make them thrive. It’s easy to disregard a film with a faulty premise and delivery, but it’s not so easy to stomach the films with promise not met, like “My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?,” “The Good Heart,” and “Harry Brown.”
