I see a lot of movies. All too often, as I'm watching something in a darkened theater, I can't help but think about real life. What email am I missing? Is anything going on with the site that I should be dealing with? Why didn't I grab that awesome looking slice of pizza in the food court before walking into the theater? Real life follows us around like a shadow.

But for two hours at the AMC Century City, I forgot about everything outside the theater. I was transported to another time and place, and I loved every second of the adventure. The only time I felt anything but enjoyment was the second I realized the movie was ending…because it hit me that I'm going to have to wait at least 2 years before I see another mission. While everyone is going to compare J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness to the first film and every other Star Trek adventure before it, I truly believe everyone involved in the follow-up should be congratulated for creating a worthy sequel and a fantastic movie. I can't wait to see it again. Hit the jump for a spoiler free video blog review.

As most of you know, I hate spoilers. What's the purpose of finding out of the twists and turns of a movie before you see it? I can understand learning the ending of a movie you've never going to see...but let's be honest...about 98% of you are going to see Star Trek Into Darkness. ...

About a year ago, I got to visit the set of director Louis Leterrier’s Now You See Me with a few other online reporters when the production was filming a key 3rd act scene in New York City. The film centers on a group of magicians who pull off bank heists during their death-defying acts, and the FBI squad tasked with catching them. Leterrier put together a great ensemble cast that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine, Melanie Laurent and Morgan Freeman. If you haven't seen the trailer, watch it here.

While on set, I got to participate in roundtable interviews with most of the cast, Leterrier, and the producers, and I walked away having learned a lot about the film. I also got a good vibe from the filming and the footage they showed us, and really think Now You See Me is going to be a fun ride when it gets released May 31st. Hit the jump for more.

Like I normally do on set visits, as soon as I got back to the hotel, I recorded a video blog with other online reporters who had been on the set visit. For this one, I was joined by Alex from First Showing and Ed from Coming Soon. We talked about what we did on set, what we learned, our overall thoughts on the set visit, and a lot more. We all agreed that the film looks like it's going to be a lot ...

Did you like District 9? Imagine if writer-director Neill Blomkamp had 100 million more dollars to play with and access to huge movie stars like Matt Damon and Jodie Foster to help tell his next story. You'd then have Elysium.

Ever since the movie was first announced, we've been covering it here on Collider, including its presence at last year's Comic-Con. Since it's the follow up to a great movie, we've definitely had high expectations. If the ten minutes of footage and the new trailer that I watched today at the Arclight in Hollywood are any indications, not only will our lofty expectations be met, they'll be exceeded by far. We might be talking about the film of the summer. Continued after the jump.

While the ten minutes of footage and the trailer revealed a lot more about the story, as most of you know, I hate running spoilers. So here's the basics:

The movie is set in 2159, and two classes of people are divided: the wealthy live on a man-made space station called Elysium, while the rest of the humans inhabit an overpopulated and ruined Earth. Matt Damon plays a desperate man who is trying to reach Elysium, Jodie Foster’s character runs Elysium, Sharlto Copley is an agent of Foster's character living on Earth (he's the one who tries to stop Damon), Alice Braga plays a doctor, and William Fichtner plays an extremely rich businessman.

What really struck me about the footage was how everything felt like a real place. This isn't ...

If you were somehow nervous Shane Black (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) couldn't handle directing Iron Man 3, it's time to relax. Right before the Super Bowl, Marvel invited a number of domestic and international reporters to a special screening of footage from the highly-anticipated sequel. Normally when they do footage screenings, it's a sizzle reel, meaning you see brief moments from a number of scenes. However, for Iron Man 3, the presentation started with Kevin Feige (the President of Production at Marvel Studios) telling us what happens in the first 20 minutes of the film, and then he showed us what happens in the following 15 minutes. We saw a ton of action, heard some fantastic Shane Black dialogue, learned what kind of impact The Avengers had on Tony Stark, and witnessed the power of the Mandarin. When the lights finally came up, I was smiling ear to ear and desperately wanting to see more.

Continued after the jump.

Since I know most of you don't want to be spoiled, I'm not going to do a bullet point recap of what we saw. Reporters might do that on other sites, but I'm of the opinion that if you're definitely going to see a movie, why spoil it early? It makes no sense. However, I'm more than happy to tease what we saw and talk about my impressions. Right after we watched the footage, I sat down with Germain from /Film to record a spoiler-free video blog. If you'd like to hear what ...

In late October, somewhere in central London, I got to visit the set of director Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan franchise reboot, aptly named "Jack Ryan" along with a few other online reporters. The film relaunches the famous Tom Clancy character that has previously been portrayed onscreen by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears). This film finds Chris Pine’s ex-Marine Jack Ryan working as a Moscow-based financial analyst who uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy. Branagh also plays the film’s villain, Keira Knightley is on board as the female lead, and Kevin Costner plays a CIA liaison.

While on set, I got to participate in some great interviews with the cast and filmmakers (the one with Costner was one of the best on set interviews I've ever done), and I learned a ton about the movie. Hit the jump for more.

Since Jack Ryan doesn't open for almost a year (December 25th), Paramount has only given me permission to write a preview piece. What that essentially means is I can say I went to set, had a good time, and you can look forward to some great stuff later this year.

However, shortly after getting back from set I recorded two video blogs with Peter from /Film. The first was a very detailed report of everything we saw and learned on set. As you might imagine, ...

With Rise of the Guardians opening November 21, last week I got to see the finished film at DreamWorks Animation and it’s really well done. Not only is the animation great to look at, it’s got a strong story that’s character driven and it doesn’t rely on stupid jokes. In addition, unlike most superhero films that spend half the time introducing characters by explaining their origin and showing off their powers, what’s fantastic about Rise of the Guardians is we join almost everyone in the middle of the story. I wish more “origin” stories would do this.
If you’re not familiar with the story, it revolves around the rebellious Jack Frost (Chris Pine) teaming up with other mythical figures North aka Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), E. Aster Bunnyman aka Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), Tooth aka The Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher), and the Sandman to battle the evil Pitch (Jude Law). Hit the jump for more.

Besides getting to see the film at DreamWorks, I spent half the day with a small group of online reporters as we were shown how the film came to life and we also spoke to the filmmakers. Shortly after seeing the film, I recorded a video blog with Devin from BadAss Digest. We talked about our thoughts on the film, what we did at DreamWorks, how Guillermo del Toro (who produced the film) was very involved, and a lot more.

The latest video blog for director Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has gone up, and it’s quite the treat. At the film’s Comic-Con panel (you can read my recap right here), Jackson debuted a new video blog that focuses on the final days of principal photography. A portion of that blog is now available to the general public, along with some new footage at the beginning that documents Jackson’s trip to Comic-Con and the cast’s experience at Nerd Fest 2012. It’s a nice watch for those that were unable to make the trek to San Diego, and it gives a sort of “behind-the-scenes” look at what filmmakers go through when attending The Con.

The Hobbit portion of the blog gives us some great looks at the city of Dale, the Goblin sets, Beorn’s house, as well as our first peeks at actors Sylvester McCoy as Radagast the Brown and Barry Humphries as Gorkin the Goblin King. Hit the jump to watch for yourself.

Video blog via the film's Facebook page.

Here’s the synopsis for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey:
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins ...

Colin Farrell is holding a futuristic black gun that fires energy rather than bullets. He's standing behind a sliding white door inside a capsule that travels through the center of the Earth. Inside the room he's trying to enter, armed Federal soldiers are guarding a valuable prisoner: Melina (Jessica Biel), one of the leaders of the underground resistance, and she's trying to get rid of Vilos Cohaagen (the leader of the United Federation of Britain, who's being played by Bryan Cranston). An assistant director calls action, the door slides open and Farrell comes barreling in, firing his weapon and killing three soldiers. After freeing Biel, Farrell explains that Cohaagen is lying and he's not with him. As he pleads with her, it's clear Biel is not sure what to believe, but she eventually embraces him with watery eyes. After a long kiss, they race out of the capsule and someone calls cut.

In the middle of February, I was able to visit LAIKA Studios in Hillsboro, Oregon to get an early look at their upcoming 3D stop-motion movie ParaNorman. As a big stop-motion fan, it was incredibly cool to get a behind-the-scenes look at how it all comes together, and to see where they made their last film, Coraline. While I assumed the process of making a stop-motion movie doesn't change, when I visited LAIKA I learned that new technology is helping to make ParaNorman one of the most technically advanced stop-motion movies ever made, and some of what they're using is straight out of an episode of Star Trek. And the best part: the technology will soon be in everyone's homes! Hit the jump for more.

Before going any further, if you haven't seen the trailer for director Sam Fell and Chris Butler's ParaNorman, I'd watch that first. The voices you'll hear are Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Alex Borstein, Jodelle Ferland, Bernard Hill, John Goodman, Anna Kendrick, Leslie Mann, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Elaine Stritch. Here's the synopsis:
In ParaNorman, a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.
As most of you know, whenever I do ...

When Sony took the stage at CinemaCon 2012 yesterday afternoon in Las Vegas, they had a short one hour window to show off their various upcoming movies. As we sat in the darkened theater waiting for the presentation to begin, we debated how could they have the stars and filmmakers talk about their movies and also show off tons of footage. But rather than follow the typical studio roadmap, Sony decided to just show a non-stop sizzle reel sans movie stars that included the world premiere of Skyfall footage (a teaser trailer) and tons of new footage from all their 2012 films included The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall, Looper, Resident Evil: Retribution, Hope Springs, Premium Rush, Hotel Transylvania, Sparkle, That's My Boy, and Men in Black 3. More after the jump.

Skyfall

As you might expect, the teaser trailer for Bond looked incredible. While it had limited dialogue and almost no information about the plot, the visuals looked fantastic and it gave off a dark and mysterious vibe. Also, we only saw one shot of Javier Bardem, and he was cloaked in darkness.

Unlike the footage from Skyfall which was very brief, the parts of the sizzle reel featuring Total Recall, The Amazing Spider-Man and Looper were full of new CGI shots and a lot longer than most of us expected. The key thing to remember is these films are almost done, so the final CG shots are being delivered and they look incredible.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Parts of New York City are in ruins from an alien attack. The damage is severe. Buildings have crumbled. Cars are overturned. In one area of the city, someone is fighting back. His name is Hawkeye, and even though he's surrounded by attackers who look more powerful, he's fighting like a man possessed. I watch as he takes out a few aliens with little hesitation, and then he stabs one of them in the neck with an arrow. It's an awesome move that will leave audiences clapping. Meanwhile, on another soundstage, Tony Stark and Captain America are arguing about Loki. It's clear from their conversation that Loki has caused a lot of damage, and they're not sure how to stop someone with God like powers. As they're arguing, suddenly Stark realizes something, and runs off to a side. Shortly thereafter I hear someone yell cut.

But let me back up a second.

Last June, when director Joss Whedon's The Avengers was filming on soundstages in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I got to visit the set with a few other reporters. While some set visits take place over a few hours on one afternoon, for The Avengers, Disney invited us to spend two full days on set and it was an amazing experience. We got to watch a few scenes get filmed, interview almost the entire cast (Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Scarlett Johansson, Marc Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Clark Gregg) and Kevin Feige and Whedon, as well as visit the ...

Moriarty (Jared Harris) is sitting at a table inside the Hotel De La Ville in Paris surrounded by people. He’s reading a newspaper inside the cafe. After a few seconds, someone walks in to tell him something. While I can’t hear what they’re saying, the news must be important since he gets up after hearing it. As he rises out of the chair, the focus of the shot pulls to an old man sitting at a table in the foreground of the frame. The man is unremarkable. He wears a suit of no importance. He has a long grey beard and long grey hair. I didn’t notice him until the camera pulled focus. As Moriarty leaves the room and the man jumps out of his chair, I realize it’s Sherlock Holmes in disguise.

But let me back up a second.

Back in January, I got to visit the set of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows when the production was filming 45 miles outside London at Waddesdon Manor. While on set, I got to participate in group interviews with Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Noomi Rapace, Jared Harris, producers Susan Downey and Lionel Wigram, and director Guy Ritchie. As you might imagine, I learned a great deal about the Sherlock Holmes sequel, and if you hit the jump, you can read my "20 Things to Know" and watch a video blog about the visit.

Before going any further, if you missed the recent trailer, I'd watch that first. The sequel sees Holmes in ...

In the latest video blog for The Hobbit, writer-director Peter Jackson says, "Shooting The Hobbit in 3D is a dream-come-true. If I had had the ability to shoot The Lord of the Rings in 3D, I certainly would have done it." Even if you're not a fan of 3D, this new video blog does a great job of explaining all the aspects of the technology including the benefits of shooting at 48 frames per second. There are also cool bits like the concept art being done in 3D and how various departments have to change their approach to accommodate 3D and 48fps. Even if you've seen documentaries like this before, this one is still worth your time because it provides brief looks at scenes from the movie. There are short glimpses of a dwarf battle, Gandalf leading the party, and a first look at the psychedelic forest of Mirkwood, and other moments that make me excited to return to Middle-Earth.

Hit the jump to check out the video blog, and look forward to the next one where they'll be moving off the soundstage and shooting on location. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on December 14, 2012. The Hobbit: There and Back Again will hit theaters on December 13, 2013.

If you've been reading the site for the past two years, you know we've been following Real Steel since its inception. When the movie was first announced, I was one of many who thought that director Shawn Levy making a robot boxing movie sounded like a really stupid idea. After all, the guy who made Pink Panther and the Night at the Museum movies taking on robot boxing? Um…no thanks. However, after visiting the set in June of 2010 and the editing room last December, I'm convinced Real Steel is going to be one of the surprises of 2011.

What you need to know is that Real Steel is not just about robot boxing. It's about a father and son finally coming together. It's about someone that's always been down on his luck getting the chance to win it all. And the way they are telling the story is pushing the limits of motion picture technology. Finally, Real Steel is produced by Steven Spielberg and the story is loaded with little touches that he put in. Again, I really think this movie is going to surprise all of you, and Levy might end up being a director you want on a future comic book movie. For more on the film, hit the jump for "20 Things to Know About Real Steel" from our set visit and you can also watch my video blog recap.

Before going further, for those of you that don't know that much about Real Steel, I suggest watching ...

Back in early May, I got to visit the set of Underworld: Awakening when the production was filming in Vancouver. While on set, I got to watch Kate Beckinsale and Michael Ealy film a few scenes that take place towards the end of the film, watch the brand new RED EPIC 3D cameras in action (which looked amazing and they're also being used on The Hobbit and The Amazing Spider-Man), learn the interesting and unique way that directors Mans Marlind & Bjorn Stein work together, and I also got to participate in group interviews with producer Richard Wright, Stunt Coordinator/2nd Unit Director Brad Martin, as well as Beckinsale, Ealy, and directors Marlind & Stein. It was a really fun day on set that I'll recap after the jump.

Before going any further, if you missed the recently released teaser trailer for Underworld: Awakening, I'd watch that first:

As most of you know, when I do a set visit, I'll always record a video blog as soon as it's over. For Underworld: Awakening, I did a video blog recap with Ed Douglas from Coming Soon. Here's what we talked about, and further down the page are the "30 Things to Know About Underworld: Awakening."

The set visit video blogs I post are usually professional. We usually stay on topic. We usually just talk about what we did on set, the highlights from who we interviewed, and what we thought. But when I recorded a video blog with Devin from Badass Digest after getting back from the set of Final Destination 5 in Vancouver last December…let's just say that it was a lot looser than what I usually post. Of course it might have been because we'd been drinking. It could have been because Dolph Lundgren was sitting at a table near us as it started. Or it could have been because it's a video blog about Final Destination and everyone knows it's all about the new and innovative ways to kill people.

However, while I might have scared some of you off, during our loose and rambling conversation, we still talked about what we did on set, what we learned, who we interviewed, and what you should be looking forward to. In addition, we even had one of the cast members (PJ Byrne) join us towards the end, as he was on his way to the bar and we convinced him to jump in. Watch the antics after the jump.

Before watching our video blog, I suggest checking out the latest trailer which explains what the movie is about. Spoiler alert: it's the same as the first four movies! But you already knew that.

Here's the video blog. I've listed what we talked about in order. I've ...

John Carter can't stand up. When he does, he falls over. Finally, after putting in a lot of effort, he's able to take a step and he jumps about thirty feet. He's stunned. Looking around, he has no idea where he is and what's going on. Of course, if you were transported to Mars from the 19th Century, you'd also have a tough time figuring out what just happened.

What I just described is part of a scene from director Andrew Stanton's (Finding Nemo, WALL-E) first live-action movie, John Carter. Based on the celebrated novel, A Princess of Mars, by Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Carter is Disney's first film in what they're hoping is a franchise starter and based on what I saw, it just might work. The reason I know this is the other week I got to go to San Francisco (along with some other online reporters) to see the first teaser trailer, watch some footage, and interview Stanton for almost an hour. I learned so much about this very cool looking film, so I suggest hitting the jump for more.

Before going any further, since many of you might not be familiar with John Carter, here's the official synopsis:
From Academy Award–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former ...

I'm standing in the Great Hall at Hogwarts. I see Snape positioned where Dumbledore used to stand at the top of the steps. As the new Headmaster, Snape is addressing a room full of students. He's telling them that anyone who knows the whereabouts of Harry Potter - whether it be student or faculty - needs to come forward with any information or the punishment will be severe. Snape continues with the news that the school has the best magic protection and Harry Potter will not be able to enter the grounds. The former potions teacher walks among the students, looking at them, his gaze intense and his dialogue slow and methodical. He's clearly hoping someone will tell him something. As he finishes saying his last line he looks up because he hears the voice of Harry Potter saying, "I don't think the protection was good enough." All the students turn, looking shocked. Harry Potter has returned to Hogwarts.

The next day, I'm on a plane, flying back from London. Yesterday was March 23, 2010 and I was standing in a place I've only seen in the movies, as I was one of the lucky online journalists invited to Leavesden Studios outside London to visit the set of the last Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As a huge fan of the books and the movies, getting to stand in the Great Hall and Dumbledore's office ...

I'm standing inside The Muppet Theater. On my right, I can see where Statler and Waldorf would sit and heckle the performances. On stage in front of me, I watch as some of the crew attempts to get everything perfect so they can get the next shot. As they adjust the lights and moves some of the background pieces, director James Bobin is sitting nearby looking at everything on two small monitors. Eventually he's happy with the set up and someone calls "action." Almost immediately, a hush falls over the room as some hidden speakers start to play something I recognize. As I look at the stage, I watch Kermit and Miss Piggy sing Rainbow Connection. I'm suddenly 8 years old and smiling from ear to ear.

But let me back up a second.

Earlier this year, I got to visit the set of The Muppets on two separate occasions. The first time was with a group of online reporters while the production was filming in Glendale, California and we watched as Amy Adams and a huge group of Muppets filmed a scene in a car. The second time I got to visit the set by myself and that's when I got to see The Muppet Theater. While Disney is releasing The Muppets, the production actually built the theater on the Universal backlot. As a child that grew up watching The Muppet Show, getting to walk around that set was something I'll never forget. Hit the jump for more.

Earlier today I got to watch Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class. While we're not allowed to write a review, we've been given permission to write our initial thoughts.
