“Yo Soy Groot.”: Watch the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY’s Groot Limited Vocabulistics in 15 Languages

With Guardians of the Galaxy available today in Digital HD, Disney has released a featurette with Groot (Vin Diesel) saying his limited vocabulary of “I am Groot” in fifteen languages.  Rather than just have the same clip play again and again with a different language each time, this bit is really well put together as it has the line at various points of the movie, and then puts up a graphic of the sentence in the respective language.  I don’t know this will spur anyone to buy the movie in Digital HD rather than just wait a few weeks for the Blu-ray (I admit it’s tempting to buy the film now), but this piece is still entertaining.

There’s a lot to love about James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but when you wrap up your film with a baby version of one of the most lovable characters of the year dancing to the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” it’s bound to be one of the biggest takeaways.  In fact, dancing baby Groot became such a hit, an officially licensed toy version of the little guy is due in stores in December.

On top of that, come December 9th you can watch baby Groot dance it up all you want because that’s when the Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-ray arrives and it includes bonus material covering how Gunn went about designing the character.  Hit the jump for a brief preview of the Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-ray featurette.

Universal Thinks There Will Be “At Least Three More” FAST & FURIOUS Movies

fast-furious-movies-end

It’s rare that a film franchise makes it to its sixth or seventh entry, and even rarer that the latter films end up being more successful than what came before.  But that’s exactly what has happened with the Fast & Furious franchise, which hit a high mark with the excellent Fast Five at $626 million worldwide and went even higher with Fast & Furious 6’s worldwide gross of $788 million.  The next film, Furious 7, is due out in April with high expectations, but the series suffered a major loss late last year when star Paul Walker sadly passed away.  Recently, word surfaced that director Justin Lin—who helmed entries 3 through 6—might be returning to the franchise for a multi-film wrap up that will bring the series to a close.

Now Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley has weighed in on the end of the franchise, saying she envisions it continuing on for at least three more films.  More after the jump.

New THE LAST WITCH HUNTER Image Shows Vin Diesel Doesn’t Care about Extinguishing Fires

Vin Diesel, who loves connecting directly to his fans, has released a new The Last Witch Hunter image on his Facebook page.  In the film, Diesel plays Kaldur, an immortal witch hunter who partners with his natural enemy, a female witch (Rose Leslie), to stop the covens of New York City from unleashing a plague on humanity.  From what we’ve seen so far, the film looks fairly dour, so I assume the picture isn’t 100 minutes of Diesel punching hipsters.  But as this image tells us, Kaldur likes standing around like a dummy while he’s surrounded by fire.  If all other witch hunters behaved this way, I think I know why he’s the last one.

FURIOUS 7 Trailer: Vin Diesel and the Family Return

Universal Pictures has released the first Furious 7 trailer for director James Wan’s (The Conjuring) action sequel.  I really dig how it starts off with an extended action sequence and think that’s a fantastic beat where Walker has to grab the rim of the car giving him an extra few feet of purchase on that clip.  Aside from that, the movie looks huge!  It definitely seems like more fun than the sixth installment and I’m hard pressed to think of an entry that looks as vibrantly colorful as this one (they seem to be leaning in to the humor as well).  It definitely looks like Wan successfully pulled off the transition from horror to action without missing a beat.  As a recent fan of these movies (my love for them got ignited with Fast 5), it’s nice to have something unabashedly fun to look forward to.

Hit the jump to watch the Furious 7 trailer.  The film stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Jason StathamTyrese GibsonKurt RussellLudacrisNathalie EmmanuelDjimon HounsouLucas Black, and John BrothertonFurious 7 opens in theaters on April 10, 2015.  I’ll most certainly be there.  “I don’t have friends.  I got family.”

Poster For The Newly Titled FURIOUS 7, Trailer Hitting In Seven Days

So strange.  I was just watching Fast & Furious 6 on HBO Go last night and noticed that the title card actually just read Furious 6, which I thought was a nice compliment to the fifth installment (which was officially titled Fast 5).  So now that Fast & Furious 7 seems to formally be titled Furious 7, I don’t know what to think.  Actually, I do know what to think, which its not worry about the title so much and to look forward to some insanely fun ridiculousness next year.   Though director James Wan described the shoot as a challenge when I spoke to him recently, he also said he was incredibly proud of the film and that sentiment is definitely echoed in the text accompanying the poster reveal.

The film also stars Vin Diesel, Paul WalkerDwayne JohnsonMichelle RodriguezJason Statham, LudacrisTyrese GibsonRonda RouseyTony JaaNathalie EmmanuelLucas BlackJohn BrothertonDjimon Hounsou, and Kurt Russell.  Furious 7 opens in theaters on April 3, 2015.  Hit the jump for a better look poster and a note accompanying the trailer announcement.  It will be an interactive event that fans can participate in as well.

James Gunn Talks GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2, Discusses Possible Additions to the Team

With Guardians of the Galaxy crossing $700 Million at the global box office (and the Blu-ray hitting on December 9th) it’s definitely a positive thing that writer/director James Gunn is already hard at work on the sequel, in fact he commenced work on the script on the Sunday after the film opened to larger-than-projected box office.  As a side note, back in January who would have thought this film would have been the biggest grosser of 2014 by a country mile?

Anyway, Gunn recently spoke about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and, while is comments were of course slight (they sort of have to be at this point) they’re interesting enough to warrant a small mention.  Hit the jump for more on Guardians of the Galaxy 2.  The original film incidentally will have a ton of special features when it does get that Blu-ray release in December. Definitely picking that one up.

James Wan Says FAST & FURIOUS 7 Was the “Hardest” Film He’s Ever Made; Also the One He’s Most Proud Of

This morning I headed down to Lionsgate to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Saw.  As a horror fan it blows my mind that it was ten years ago that writer Leigh Whannell and James Wan changed the genre forever with their tiny, original film.  People forget how innovative the original Saw was (and how comparatively non-violent it actually is when stacked up against the sequels – a few of which I like as well).  While the bulk of our conversation centered around that franchise (in addition to the two other successful horror franchises Wan has helped launch – Insidious and The Conjuring) we did briefly touch on Fast & Furious 7 and how working with that expanded budget compares to the relatively small amount of money Wan spent on Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring.  I found his answer to be refreshingly honest and hopeful, so I’ve decided to share it with you now.

The rest of the interview, which has a lot of really good stuff, will be hitting next week closer to the theatrical re-release of Saw on October 31st.  Wan personally oversaw a new transfer of that film for this release and it apparently looks better than ever.  Hit the jump for his thoughts on Fast & Furious 7.

Rose Leslie Talks HONEYMOON, GAME OF THRONES and Vin Diesel’s THE LAST WITCH HUNTER

rose-leslie-honeymoon-interview

From director/co-writer Leigh Janiak, the indie feature Honeymoon follows young newlyweds Paul (Harry Treadaway) and Bea (Rose Leslie), who travel to a remote lake cottage for their honeymoon with the promise of some private time for romance.  But when Paul finds Bea out in the woods in the middle of the night, her behavior becomes increasingly peculiar and distant, and Paul begins to suspect that something sinister happened.

At the film’s press day, actress Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) spoke to Collider for this exclusive interview about how she got involved with the film, what it was like to collaborate with co-star Harry Treadaway, that she loved working in such a stripped down way, doing an American accent, why she liked the ambiguity of what happens to her character, and the experience of working in the cottage.  She also talked about her experience playing Ygritte on Game of Thrones, and her current project, The Last Witch Hunter, in which she’s playing a witch opposite Vin Diesel.  Check out what she had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

Vin Diesel Reveals Very First THE LAST WITCH HUNTER Image; Production is Underway

Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood and Michael Caine in a Breck Eisner film?  I’m in!  When news first broke that Summit Entertainment snatched up Cory Goodman’s The Last Witch Hunter pitch in a mid-six figure acquisition, it did catch my eye, but the premise alone wasn’t enough to spark much interest.  However, as the creative team started to come together, things changed big time.

Diesel is set to play an immortal witch hunter who’s forced to team up with his chief adversary, a female witch, in order to stop the evil covens of New York City from unleashing a plague and decimating humanity.  The project just went into production and Diesel opted to celebrate by sharing the very first photo from the film.  Hit the jump to check out The Last Witch Hunter image.

Vin Diesel Hints at His Involvement in Marvel’s Adaptation of THE INHUMANS

by     Posted 103 days ago

vin-diesel-the-inhumans

Vin Diesel‘s unwavering self-promotion is at turns oddly endearing and incredibly frustrating.  I admire his conviction at making another Riddick movie, and gobsmacked that he thinks anyone other than him wants a third xXx.  His desire to be in a Marvel movie was also indefatigable as he dropped hints like saying the studio wanted to meet with him, and the two might “merge brands” in 2016.  But so far, his collaboration with the studio has extended to Diesel voicing a character who only says “I am Groot.”  He did a fine job of it, but Diesel wants more.  He wants to be Inhuman.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Review

by     Posted 114 days ago

guardians-of-the-galaxy-review

Leading up to Guardians of the Galaxy, there’s been a persistent question among pundits, analysts, and even Marvel fans about whether or not the studio’s new film is “too weird”.  Somehow, we’ve come to expect a guy who can invent anything, an alien Norseman with a magic hammer, and a guy who was put into suspended animation instead of dying of hypothermia are all credible protagonists worthy of their own movies.  But once you go into outer space and feature a talking raccoon, all bets are off. Writer-director James Gunn has no problem convincing us of his space oddities as he taps into universally beloved qualities like humor, warmth, and a sense of adventure.  Although he’s still a little trapped by some familiar plot points and a few underdeveloped main characters, these are minor qualms in a movie that’s a total blast.
