Warner Bros. has released the first The Judge trailer for director David Dobkin’s (Wedding Crashers) upcoming thriller/family drama.  Robert Downey Jr. plays an attorney who returns home for his mother’s funeral only to learn that his estranged father (Robert Duvall), a judge who suffers from Alzheimer’s, has been accused of murder.  The trailer starts out with RDJ at his Starkiest, but takes a left turn away from the arrogant individualist to more of an everyman with daddy issues once the hook of the story comes in.  It’s got a touch of schmaltz to it, but it’s also refreshing to see Downey Jr. putting in work outside of the superhero/action-adventure franchises.

Hit the jump to check out the first The Judge trailer.  The film also stars Vera Farmiga, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Billy Bob Thornton, Dax Shepard, Leighton Meester, Ken Howard, David Krumholtz, Balthazar Getty, and Denis O’HareThe Judge opens in theaters on October 10th.

Vincent D’Onofrio to Play Villain in JURASSIC WORLD [Updated with Character Details]

The highly anticipated Jurassic World has cast its villain, and it’s not exactly a T-Rex this time around.  Deadline reports that Vincent D’Onofrio has landed the antagonist role in director Colin Trevorrow’s follow-up, about which we know next to nothing.  One assumes the dinosaurs will still be the main threat for the film’s protagonists as D’Onofrio will likely be playing the pic’s human foil—possibly a person favoring monetary potential over the human life, though it’s also possible that Trevorrow has crafted a decidedly different feature in which a human character is actively controlling/using the dinosaurs to attack the core group of heroes.  Hit the jump for more, including news of another cast member being added in a supporting role.

[Update: A new report has revealed the character details for both D'Onofrio's role and the role to be played by Irrfan Khan (Life of Pi), giving us our first hint at the plot of the film. Read on after the jump.]

The first trailer for director Fredrik Bond’s film Charlie Country has been released online.  Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood stars as a couple who meet under strange circumstances and have an impossibly strong mutual attraction, much to the chagrin of Wood’s dangerous husband (Mads Mikkelsen).  The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to fairly negative reviews, with many likening the pic to a feature-length music video.  Bond has made some edits to the pic since Sundance, so it’ll be interesting to see how the finished film stacks up.  This trailer highlights the meet-cute of the central couple, Wood’s odd Romanian accent, and Rupert Grint taking lots of drugs.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer, and if you missed our interviews from Sundance click here for the full cast and click here for Bond.  The film also stars Til Schweiger, James Buckley, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Melissa LeoCharlie Countryman will be simultaneously released VOD and in theaters on November 15th.

The first trailer has been released for the action film, Escape Plan.  Formerly titled “The Tomb“, Sylvester Stallone stars as Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. Breslin is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own master design, and must escape in order to find out who framed him and why.  Stallone is joined by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who plays a fellow inmate and accomplice in the jail break.  The trailer makes the flick look like an old-school action flick, and one that could be a whole lot of fun.  Schwarzenegger and Stallone could have played these roles twenty years ago, but they don’t seem too old to play them now.

Exclusive Clip and Poster for PAWN SHOP CHRONICLES Starring Brendan Fraser, Brendan Fraser, Elijah Wood, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Chi McBride

Anchor Bay has sent us an exclusive poster and clip for the upcoming comedy Pawn Shop Chronicles.  Directed by Wayne Kramer (The Cooler), the film is three short stories connected by items from a Southern small-town pawn shop.  The twisted tales involve “a man searching for his kidnapped wife, a couple of white-supremacist meth heads, and a sad-sack Elvis impersonator.”  It sounds like the fun insanity that permeated Kramer’s underseen 2006 film Running Scared.  This clip doesn’t show any of that movie’s electric cinematography and pacing, but that doesn’t mean those aspects will be absent from the rest of the picture.  As you can see from the trailer, the potential is certainly there.

Hit the jump to check out the exclusive poster and clip.  The film stars Brendan Fraser, Elijah Wood, Vincent D’Onofrio, Thomas Jane, Lukas Haas, Norman Reedus, Chi McBride, Matt Dillon, and Paul WalkerPawn Shop Chronicles opens in theaters and hits VOD on July 12th.

FULL METAL JACKET 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray Review

full metal jacket r lee ermey

During the late 1980s, a generation of American boys went to war in Vietnam. Doing so, however, didn’t require any basic training or an actual tour of duty. Nope, all that was required was a working VCR and a VHS copy of any one of the squad of Vietnam War-era movies available at the local mom and pop video store. Seriously, I can’t remember a single birthday party from that time that didn’t involve a screening of Good Morning, Vietnam or Hamburger Hill or Platoon. But the Vietnam War movie that has always lingered strongest in my memory – the one that looked different and felt different from the others – was Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket.  Hit the jump for my review of the 25th anniversary Blu-ray.

In 1995, Will Smith starred in the first of three back-to-back films that would rocket his career into superstardom and solidify his status as a box office king.  He kicked things off with Michael Bay’s feature directorial debut, Bad Boys, followed by the large-scale sci-fi actioner Independence Day, and rounded things off with the franchise-starter Men in Black.  The third installment in the sci-fi comedy series, Men in Black 3, just opened in theaters and now Men in Black and Men in Black II have been released on Blu-ray to mark the occasion.  Hit the jump for our review of both films on Blu-ray.

First Trailer for SINISTER Starring Ethan Hawke

The first trailer for director Scott Derrickson’s new horror film Sinister has been released.  The film stars Ethan Hawke as a true crime novelist who moves his family into a house where the horrific murder of an entire family took place, in an effort to discover his next big story.  When he finds a box of home videos in which other families are also brutally murdered, he realizes he may have made a huge mistake by moving into the house.  The trailer is a bit heavy handed when it comes to exposition, as characters state flat-out what everything means (“That’s the family that used to live here!” “That symbol is obviously a pagan demon who feeds on children’s souls!”).  That said, there look to be some genuinely terrifying scares and as a fan of Derrickson’s The Exorcism of Emily Rose, I’m game to check out what he has in store with Sinister.

When last we reported on Running Scared-director Wayne Kramer’s Pawn Shop Chronicles, the picture had attached Paul Walker to star with Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst set to direct.  That’s old news.  What’s current is the casting of Elijah Wood, Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser and Vincent D’Onofrio in the dark comedy.  The plot seems pretty much the same, which involves a local pawn shop in a small Southern town that is a link between a man searching for his kidnapped wife, two white-supremacist meth addicts and a down-on-his-luck Elvis impersonator.  Production on the Adam Minarovich screenplay is underway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Hit the jump for more casting news on Pawn Shop Chronicles.

You’ll have to wait until August 17th to see Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone together again in The Expendables 2, but this video from the set visit of The Tomb should hold you over.  Production started recently in New Orleans on the Mikael Hafstrom (1408) picture that stars Sly as Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security who is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own design.  In prison, Breslin meets Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger), the leader of the prisoners who wants to get out just as badly as Breslin does.  In this video, Stallone and Schwarzenegger comment further on their characters in The Tomb, their work together on The Expendables and The Expendables 2, and the old-school machismo of action movies and their stars, which Sly calls, “male pattern badness.”  Written by Miles Chapman (Road House 2: Last Call) and Jason Keller (Machine Gun Preacher), The Tomb also stars Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Jim Caviezel, Amy Ryan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Vinnie Jones, and new addition Sam Neill.  Hit the jump to check it out along with some images from the set.
