David E. Kelley has adapted CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta‘s novel Monday Mornings for TNT, with worthy results. Kelley is best known as bringing to screen more procedurals than Dick Wolff, from Chicago Hope to Ally McBeal, and Monday Mornings definitely falls in step with the medical drama formula. Still, there’s something undeniably likable about the series. But it takes a few episodes to really get started, and if viewers just base on its by-the-books pilot, it may not last beyond its initial ten-episode run (which it should). Hit the jump for more about why it’s worth tuning in, not at least for the return of Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) to our screens, and the unexpected and welcomed presence of Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible).
If you’re a fan of the Death Race franchise, you’re in luck, because director Roel Reine is back again with a new trailer for Death Race 3: Inferno. The property kicked off in 2008 with Jason Statham as a prisoner racing against other inmates to win his freedom. The follow-up film was a prequel, introducing Luke Goss as the seemingly invincible racer, Frankenstein. Death Race 3: Inferno sees the return of Goss as Frankenstein as the competition now heads to a new locale: South Africa’s Kalahari Desert. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer and be sure to pick up Death Race 3: Inferno on Blu-ray and DVD early next year.
In case you want to see more of Piranha 3DD’s cast than just David Hasselhoff, we have a new “making of” featurette for you to check out. The Hoff was recently featured in both a clip from the film as well as a character featurette. This new featurette, while still not a real behind-the-scenes look, showcases David Koechner, Katrina Bowden and Gary Busey talking about their characters and the fictitious lengths they had to go through to bring Piranha 3DD to the screen. If you’re a fan of boobs and blood, or just an amateur icthyologist eager to learn more, you’ll want to hit the jump to check out the NSFW video. Directed by John Gulager, the film also stars Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer and Danielle Panabaker. Piranha 3DD opens on June 1st.
A batch of new images from Piranha 3DD has gone online, but with a title like that one doesn’t really need much more elaboration in order to decide if the film is up his or her alley. Yes, the images highlight lots of boobs and blood, but we also get new looks at stars David Hasselhoff and David Koechner. Yesterday we brought you a new clip from the film with a nice Baywatch nod, which you can check out right here.
Hit the jump to take a gander at the images. Directed by John Gulager, the film also stars Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, Katrina Bowden, and Danielle Panabaker. Piranha 3DD opens on June 1st.
Dimension Films is doubling your pleasure with a second helping of boobs, blood and killer fish in this summer’s Piranha 3DD. For a while now, I thought the extra D was a cleverly disguised breast joke, but apparently it stands for “David,” as in David Hasselhoff. This new clip from the film features The Hoff in his oh-so-familiar role as a lifeguard. Fans of the glory days of Baywatch will get a kick out of the segment and the humor aimed at an aging Hasselhoff is spot-on to what you can expect from Piranha 3DD. Be sure to check out the trailer, red-band trailer, posters and images, as well. The film stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer, and Gary Busey. Piranha 3DD opens June 1st. Hit the jump to check out the new clip.
Dimension Films has unleashed seven new images from the gore-heavy sequel Piranha 3DD. They highlight everything we expect to see from the follow-up to Piranha 3D: good looking girls in swimsuits, Ving Rhames with a gun attachment instead of a leg, and David Hasselhoff. The sequel moves the action to a water park that’s (naturally) kept safe by stripper lifeguards, and I’m assuming much nudity and/or carnage ensues.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The film also stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Gary Busey.
A red-band trailer for Piranha 3DD has gone online. Like the first movie, the sequel is all about boobs and blood, but this trailer is mostly about the former rather than the latter. Yes, the trailer has plenty of killer-fishy menace, but don’t expect seeing any gruesome kills. Instead, expect to see lots of bare breasts, and I assume no one will complain about that.
Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer. The film stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, David Hasselhoff, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer, and Gary Busey. Piranha 3DD currently does not have a release date.
The first trailer for Piranha 3DD has gone online. For everyone who loved the first movie, the new trailer wants to let you know, “All that stuff you liked? The boobs, the gore, the silliness, and all that stuff? Yep. That’s all here. Enjoy.” There seems to be some creative kills in store in addition to the goofiness of stripper-lifeguards and Ving Rhames-Gunlegs. My only problem with this trailer is the notable absence of Gary Busey. Hopefully, we’ll see him and his piranha-related lunacy soon.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Koechner, David Hasselhoff, Christopher Lloyd, and Paul Scheer. Piranha 3DD currently does not have a release date.
A trio of swell actors have signed on to star in the drama Jamesy Boy. Mary-Louise Parker, Ving Rhames, and James Woods will star in the feature debut of director/co-writer Trevor White. The film tells the story of a young suburban street gang member who gets sent to a maximum-security prison. Once inside, he strikes up an unlikely friendship with a convicted murderer (as one does) who ends up becoming the boy’s mentor “and ultimately defines and changes the course of his life.” Newcomer Spencer Lofranco will play the young prisoner.
Parker is gearing up for the likely final season of Showtime’s Weeds and will next be seen on the big screen alongside Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges in R.I.P.D. Rhames recently booked a prominent role in David E. Kelley’s pilot Chelsea General, and should the show be picked up to series he’ll have himself a prime spot on weekly television. Hit the jump to read the full press release.
We’ve got a couple more TV casting stories to share with you today. First up, casting for David E. Kelley’s (The Practice) new medical pilot Chelsea General is moving quickly. Just yesterday Alfred Molina signed on to star in the series which centers on “the lives of five surgeons as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings,” and now Ving Rhames has been added to the cast. Deadline reports that Rhames will play “a physically imposing former professional football player who now is the most celebrated trauma chief in the country.”
Additionally, Stephen Root has signed on for the impending third season of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. The Live Feed reports that Root is set for a recurring role as “a forger, swindler, and murder suspect who became a Special Investigator for the US Department of Justice.” No word on whether or not his character has the potential to become a regular. Hit the jump for news concerning two recurring characters being promoted to series regulars on Showtime’s Homeland.
The sequel to Alexandre Aja’s remake of Piranha 3D, aptly titled Piranha 3DD, is on its way, and we’ve got the first batch of images from the follow-up. In the sequel, the toothy amphibians head to a water park to wreak havoc. Judging from the teaser trailer, an adequate amount of carnage/nudity will ensue, and when you’re going to see a movie called Piranha 3DD, that’s really all you can ask for. Along with the first images, we’ve also got a full synopsis for the film. The images unveil David Hasselhoff in what looks to be full Baywatch gear, Gary Busey doing his thing, and a piranha feasting on some young woman’s jugular. Ah, water parks. Hit the jump for the images and synopsis. And here’s the trailer if you missed it.
I haven’t gotten around to seeing Alexandre Aja’s remake of Piranha 3D, but I heard good things all around regarding its creative kills, delightful stupidity, and all-around exploitative nature. It’s a movie that knows what it wants to be an pulls it off. That general consensus combined with a solid box office performance has led to the sequel Piranha 3DD. The new film has the carnivorous fishies headed to a water park, which aren’t really sanitary places to begin with. Dimension Films premiered the first trailer last night at the SpikeTV Scream Awards and it looks like they’ve definitely got the “DD” part down. Also, Ving Rhames’s character apparently shops at the same prosthetics store as Cherry Darling. I have no complaints about gun-legs.
Hit the jump to check out the teaser trailer. The fish food cast also includes Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Katrina Bowden, David Hasselhoff, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Gary Busey. Piranha 3DD opens next year.
EFish Entertainment has contracted Val Kilmer, Ving Rhames, Luke Goss, and Rebecca Da Costa to star in the independent thriller Seven Below. Speaking as a sucker for any movie that bends time and space, the logline provided by Variety sounds pretty cool:
“Story centers on a group of strangers brought together when a terrible storm leaves them stranded in a house in the woods where a terrible event transpired exactly 100 years prior. The group seems trapped in a ghostly time warp, and history is repeating itself.”
Kevin Carraway will direct from a script he co-wrote with Lawrence Smith; Warren Ostergard, Brianna, Lee Johnson, and Eric Mark Fisher (“EFish” himself) are producing. Production was initially scheduled earlier this year in New Mexico before a change in the state tax credits lured EFish to Cincinnati. The new start date is next month.
Paramount has released the first trailer for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the fourth entry in the spy franchise. The trailer is pretty much everything you want out of a Mission: Impossible movie, and it looks like it could be the best yet. The action looks great without being cheesy or showy, and the cast assembled here is top-notch. Plus, freaking Brad Bird (Ratatouille) is making his live-action directorial debut.
Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames reprise their series roles, joined by Jeremy Renner, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor, Léa Seydoux, and Vladimir Mashkov. Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams is on board as producer. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens on December 16. Watch the trailer after the jump.
[Update: We've updated the article with some official images from the film as well]
Piranha 3DD clearly has no desire to be considered a real movie and if attempting to top their previously-announced stunt casting of Gary Busey by hiring David Hasselhoff. Unfortunately, nothing beats Busey. The new film takes place at a water park so perhaps Hasselhoff will be playing a lifeguard. You know, because he was a lifeguard on Baywatch. So clever, Piranha 3DD.
The film also stars Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, Katrina Bowden, Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, and David Koechner. Piranha 3DD opens in 3D on November 23rd.
