As part of the TCA Press Tour presentation for FX, President & General Manager of FX Networks John Landgraf took some time to talk about their current hit series, new shows, and what they see as possibilities for their future line-up. During the interview, he spoke about the status of American Horror Story as a mini-series and the differences in Season 2, the positive futures for both Wilfred and Justified, the possibility of the back 90 episode pick-up for Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management, why Sons of Anarchy always gets overlooked for Emmy Awards nominations, whether Powers might still make it to the air, and their pilots for The Americans (starring Kerri Russell), Bronx Warrants (from Denis Leary and Jim Serpico) and The Bridge (based on the Danish series of the same name). Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Question: Were you surprised to find out that American Horror Story was a mini-series?

JOHN LANDGRAF: We actually always knew that American Horror Story was going to be a mini-series, in the sense that we knew that it was a closed-ended show that had no continuing storylines or characters between the 13 episodes that were produced and aired, and subsequent seasons. That’s the definition of a mini-series. A mini-series is a show that has no continuing story or narrative elements between one group of episodes and another, so no, I wasn’t surprised.

What will the differences be, in Season 2?

LANDGRAF: The second season takes place in a different timeframe, in ...

When a man walks around in a dog costume at Comic-Con, hardly anyone blinks an eye, and perhaps the reason why is that Wilfred, the FX comedy starring Elijah Wood and Jason Gann, is a good fit for the pop culture event. On the show, Wood plays Ryan, a former lawyer struggling with manic depression, who offers to watch his neighbor’s dog, Wilfred (Gann), as a way to get to know her better, but to Ryan, Wilfred is a man dressed in a dog suit.

The second season is already underway, and its dark humor and clever dialogue has attracted the attention of some big-time guest stars, including Robin Williams, who appeared in the first episode as Ryan’s therapist. Other guest stars this season will include Dwight Yoakam and Mary Steenburgen. Elijah Wood, Jason Gann, Fiona Gubelmann (who plays Ryan’s neighbor, Jenna) and Dorian Brown (who plays Ryan’s sister, Kristen) spoke with members of the press about how the rest of Season 2 will unfold. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

Question: Do you like wearing the Wilfred suit?

JASON GANN: When I’m in the suit and it’s summer and I just want to tear somebody’s hair out, I think about the fans and how much they really love the character and the show, and I keep going.

Is Wilfred based on man or beast?

GANN: The motivation for the character was that he was a man stuck in a dog’s body. He was inspired by those dogs who spend ...

Elijah Wood, Jason Gann, Fiona Gubelmann, and producers David Zuckerman and Randall Einhorn were on hand to present a new episode at the Wilfred Comic-Con panel. Wood referred to it as their “crowning achievement.” That is true, if the standard is the most depraved scenario they could conceive---to the point where you’ll never see the whole thing on television---interspersed with some Footloose-era dance montages. Hit the jump for a recap of the panel.

We saw “Avoidance,” episode 7 of season 2. Episodes 4, 5, and 6 had not aired at the time of the panel, so there was a bit of continuity catchup to get into the episode. Ryan bumps into an old friend from law school. After graduation, they worked together at Ryan’s dad’s firm, and bonded over their hatred of the job. They had a major falling out, though, and haven’t spoken in years because Ryan ignored all the old friend’s calls.

As Wilfred tries to lecture Ryan on the importance of confronting issues like that, he ropes Ryan into an upcoming dance competition. I am not familiar enough with Footloose to know for sure, but I recognized enough of the gesticulations that I believe they did a shot-for-shot remake of the montage where Ren teaches Willard how to dance. This is all the more adorable because Gann and Wood are terrible dancers.

This builds to a shocking moment that is simply too blue for basic cable. They need to cut certain elements to air it on FX, but I won’t ...

After a season of laughs and outrageous hilarity, the FX series Wilfred ended Season 1 with some shocking revelations that left the mental sanity of Ryan (Elijah Wood) in question. Although Season 2 has already provided some answers, there are still bigger mysteries revolving around the young man’s unique friendship with his neighbor’s canine pet, which he happens to see as a crude Australian (Jason Gann) in a cheap dog suit.

During this recent exclusive interview with Collider, showrunner/executive producer/writer David Zuckerman talked about the reaction he got from the Season 1 finale, expanding Ryan’s universe this season, delving deeper into Ryan’s family, how Robin Williams ended up guest starring, the biggest challenges of shooting with such a crazy production schedule (they shot all the odd-numbered episodes, and then all the even-numbered episodes, which made for some interesting continuity issues), and their plans for this year’s Comic-Con. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Collider: When did you realize that people were really getting the show, the way that you hoped they would?

DAVID ZUCKERMAN: Well, I guess we started reading some of the message boards and people started really appreciating the time that we spent on the stories and the depth of the characters. People were speculating, “What is Wilfred? Why is Wilfred in Ryan’s life?” And people were digging the themes that we explore each week. That was very gratifying. The truth is that the easiest part of doing a ...

It turns out America’s morbid fascination with love for Charlie Sheen has not diminished. After a very public meltdown led to his dismissal from CBS juggernaut Two and a Half Men last year, the troubled star took his act to FX last night. The first two episodes of his new sitcom Anger Management debuted to the best ratings for a scripted comedy in cable history (not including kids’ shows). Episode one, at 9 pm, topped all-time records in both overall viewers (5.47 million) and the key 18-49 demographic (2.65 million). Episode two, at 9:30, bested it by attracting 5.74 mil total and 2.89 mil in the 18-49 demo. As a point of reference, more typical FX comedy Wilfred later premiered to 2.53 mil total and 1.2 mil in 18-49.

Anger Management sees Sheen stepping into the role of ex-ball player, current anger management coach Charlie Goodson, who gets up to hijinks involving his ex-wife (Shawnee Smith), therapist (Selma Blair), teenaged daughter (Daniela Bobadilla) and various clients (Noureen DeWulf, Barry Corbin). Hit the jump for more.

Per THR, if the ratings continue to hit a certain mark over the coming weeks, an order for 90 additional episodes from distributor Debmar-Mercury will kick in, keeping Sheen on the air for…ever, basically. In the wake of the two-part debut, the show will settle into its regular time slot, Thursdays at 9:30, beginning next week.

Critics have not been quite as enthusiastic about the more-or-less traditional canned-laughter sitcom, though some seem to think it has potential. It’s ...

Comic-Con has released the schedule for Preview Night on Wednesday, July 11th and the full schedule for Thursday, July 12th. Preview Night won't just have people trampling each other for Exhibitors Floor merchandise. It will also have screenings of the pilots for Arrow, 666 Park Avenue, The Following, Revolution, and Cult. As for Thursday, Comic-Con has wisely scheduled The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 as the first panel of the day in Hall H (although it doesn't start until almost 1:00pm for some reason), so all the Twihards can get in, see the panel, and get on with their lives. For the rest of the day, Hall H will play host to Frankenweenie, Oz the Great and Powerful, Wreck-It Ralph, Jackie Chan's CZ12, The Expendables 2, and…not much else really. No offense to Chan, but his directorial feature CZ12 is going to be packed only because Expendables 2 is coming afterwards.

On the TV side, there will be panels for returning series Psych, Wilfred, Archer, Nikita, Dexter, and Workaholics. There will also be panels for new series Beauty and the Beast and Elementary. Hit the jump for highlights from the Wednesday and Thursday schedules. The 2012 San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 12 – 15th.

After a season of laughs and outrageous hilarity, the FX series Wilfred ended Season 1 with some shocking revelations, leaving the mental sanity of Ryan (Elijah Wood) in question. About a young man struggling unsuccessfully to make his way in the world until he forms a unique friendship with his neighbor’s canine pet, which he happens to see as a crude Australian (Jason Gann) in a cheap dog suit, the half-hour live-action comedy shows how that dog can teach a man to overcome his fears and joyfully embrace the unpredictability and insanity of the world around him.

As a big fan of the series myself, I am quite anxious to see where things pick back up and how those questions will be answered, when Season 2 premieres on June 28th. In the meantime, you can check out this exclusive interview with Collider to read what Elijah Wood had to say about what’s in store in the coming season, how he likes to keep a certain amount of space for interpretation instead of more definitive answers, getting to see more of Ryan’s family, enjoying the fast pace of shooting an episode in four days, not breaking into laughter while shooting, how surprised he is with some of the things they get away with, and what they learned from doing Season 1 that has made Season 2 easier. He also talked about what it was like to return to Hobbiton to reprise his The Lord of the Rings role for ...

The animated series TRON: Uprising, debuting with a special preview on the Disney Channel on May 18th before premiering on its regular night on Disney XD on June 7th, takes place after the 1982 feature film and before the events in TRON: Legacy. Produced in CG animation with a 2D aesthetic, the series follows the heroic journey of a new character named Beck (voiced by Elijah Wood), a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. You can watch the first episode here.

At the press day for this highly anticipated new show, actor Elijah Wood talked about how excited he was to be a part of this show, what he thinks of his animated self, how much fun he has doing voice-over work, determining the voice for the character, and what Charlie Bean was like, as a director. He also talked about the strange fan encounters he’s had, his experience at Comic-Con, collecting action figures, what he looks for in a role these days, what attracted him to Grand Piano, returning to New Zealand for The Hobbit, and what fans can expect from Season 2 of his FX comedy series, Wilfred. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Question: What do you think of your animated self?

ELIJAH WOOD: He’s pretty awesome! It’s cool. It’s fun to play something so heroic.

Were you a fan of the TRON universe, prior to doing this?

WOOD: I was, and super-excited at the notion ...

Spring hasn't even started yet, but FX is already making moves to get you ready for a summer of television with new seasons of Wilfred starring Elijah Wood (the season premiere will have a guest star appearance by Robin Williams) and Louie with Louis C.K. In addition, the network has also revealed the premiere dates for their new series like Anger Management, marking the return of Charlie Sheen to a series since his crazy breakdown and departure from Two and a Half Men, and Russell Brand's non-scripted series Strangely Uplifting.

All of the series will premiere on Thursday, June 28th. Anger Management kicks off the comedy block at 9/8c with a two-episode premiere (the show's regular timeslot will be at 9:30/8:30c) followed by the second season premiere of Wilfred at 10/9c. Louie follows with its third season premiere at 10:30/9:30c followed by the debut of Russell Brand's show Strangely Uplifting at 11/10c, filmed in front of a live audience. This block sounds almost as impressive as NBC's Thursday night line-up and just might give it a run for its money. However, it all depends on how the two new series pan out. For a full press release with plenty more information on all these series, hit the jump.

Here's the full press release:
FX will be television’s comedy destination this summer with the return of two of its acclaimed original series, Louie and Wilfred, the debut of its new late-night original series Strangely Uplifting with Russell Brand, and Anger Management starring Charlie Sheen, ...

Based on the critically acclaimed Australian series of the same name, the FX dark comedy series Wilfred has struck a chord with audiences, far beyond the expectations of everyone involved, and already earned itself a second season. The half-hour shows follows Ryan (Elijah Wood), a young man struggling unsuccessfully to make his way in the world. In a deep depression, he forms a unique friendship with Wilfred (Jason Gann), his neighbor’s canine pet who everyone else sees as just a dog, but who Ryan sees a crude Australian guy in a cheap dog suit.

After leading Ryan through a wide array of trials and tribulations, and the wildest of adventures, Season 1 comes to a close on September 8th, bringing up more questions about Ryan’s mental state than ever before. Co-stars Elijah Wood and Jason Gann (who is also co-executive producer) talked about the Season 1 cliffhanger, where they can take things in Season 2, what they would like to include on the DVD, the possibility of seeing things through Wilfred’s eyes, the struggles they’d like to see Ryan overcome, and how gratifying the success of the show has been. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

Question: Will the season finale wrap up the questions of Season 1, or will it have a cliffhanger?

JASON GANN: I don’t know how much we can say. Let’s just say that there will be more questions than answers. It’s a lot less packaged than the rest of the season. The episodes normally ...

On the FX dark comedy Wilfred, actress Fiona Gubelmann plays Jenna, Wilfred’s owner and the next-door neighbor of Ryan (Elijah Wood). She works as a local news producer and, even though Ryan sees Wilfred (Jason Gann) as a crude Australian man in a cheap dog suit, to Jenna, Wilfred is simply her lovable pet canine.

During a recent interview to promote the unusual, quirky and hilarious series, Fiona Gubelmann talked about how she got involved with the project, what appealed to her about the show and character, what viewers can expect from the remainder of the season, how she thinks her character might react if she could ever see Wilfred the way that Ryan does, how excited she is to hear from the fans at Comic-Con this year, her desire to work with Guillermo del Toro and J.J. Abrams, and her secret wish to play Wonder Woman. Check out what she had to say after the jump:

Question: How did you get involved with this project? What was the audition process like?

FIONA GUBELMANN: I got involved through my agents. They actually sent me the audition appointment. So, it was just a regular audition, and the night before my audition, when I first read the script, I just absolutely fell in love with it. I thought it was just hilarious. I didn’t quite get the whole guy in the dog suit thing, so I went online and watched some of the Australian version of the show, and then I was like, “Oh my ...

The new FX comedy Wilfred is equal parts crazy, hilarious, crude and brilliant. The half-hour, live-action series, adapted from the Australian series of the same name, follows Ryan (Elijah Wood), a young man struggling unsuccessfully to make his way in the world until he forms a unique friendship with Wilfred (Jason Gann), his neighbor’s canine pet. While everyone else, including his owner Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann), sees Wilfred as just a dog, Ryan sees a surly, yet irrepressibly brave and honest Australian bloke in a cheap dog suit. As Wilfred, the dog, shows Ryan, the man, how to overcome his fears and joyfully embrace the unpredictability and insanity of the world around him, the two develop an unlikely friendship that gives new meaning to “man’s best friend.”

During an exclusive interview with Collider to promote the TV series, Jason Gann, who co-created and starred in the Australian series, and who is also co-executive producer on the American version, talked about how the concept for Wilfred started as a conversation that turned into a short film and then become a television show, being convinced to put the Wilfred suit back on, getting the opportunity to expand the world by doing almost as many episodes in Season 1 as the Australian series had in its entirety, how much fun he’s had working with Elijah Wood, a rather funny run-in he had with two Australian teenagers while he was shooting in costume in Venice, and how he’d also like to branch out and do some ...

The half-hour, live-action comedy Wilfred is about a young man named Ryan (Elijah Wood), who is struggling unsuccessfully to make his way in the world until he forms a unique friendship with Wilfred (Jason Gann), his neighbor’s canine pet. While everyone else sees Wilfred as just a dog, Ryan sees a crude yet always honest Australian guy in a cheap dog suit. As their peculiar relationship develops and they find themselves in some rather outrageous situations, Wilfred shows Ryan how to overcome his fears and embrace the world around him.

During a recent interview to promote the show’s premiere on FX, actor Elijah Wood talked about why he decided to do a TV series, how he feels that honesty and truth are a solid base for any comedy, why he enjoys playing a character that’s so broken, and how he’s attracted to scripts that he responds to, on a gut level. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Question: Have you been offered a lot of TV roles, in the past? What made you chose this one?

ELIJAH WOOD: I actually don’t get offered a lot of TV roles. I read a few scripts that were mainly dramas. I was just interested in taking a look at television because I really had never seen what was available and what people were making. It’s changed so much, even in the last five years. This was one of the last scripts that I was sent, and my manager sent it to me ...

Today FX announced the summer premiere dates for the all new seasons of Rescue Me starring Denis Leary and Louie, starring the hilarious comedian Louis C.K. In addition, the series premiere of the new comedy Wilfred starring Elijah Wood has also been revealed. On June 23rd, Wilfred will premiere its 13-episode first season at 10/9c followed closely by Louie at 10:30/9:30c which will have a 13-episode second season run. If you haven't seen the trailer for the Elijah Wood comedy, you can check it out here. I know I'll be tuning in. As for Louie, the first season was spectacular, and I can't wait for more. But if straight-up comedy isn't your bag, FX will bring back their long-running series Rescue Me for its seventh and final season starting on July 12th at 10/9c. Should be a great summer on FX.

The drama Monogamy is a very real portrayal of a relationship on the brink, as it is faces the fear of commitment and the fantasy that reality can never live up to. Bored with his job as a wedding photographer, Theo (Chris Messina) forms a company where he is hired by clients to clandestinely snap voyeuristic photos of them, as they go about their daily lives. When a sexy exhibitionist (Meital Dohan) hires him, he quickly becomes obsessed with her, stalking her day and night, which threatens his relationship and impending marriage to Nat (Rashida Jones). As Theo is consumed with thoughts about his client, the couple are forced to face truths about their own issues and sex life at home.

At the film’s press day, actress Rashida Jones did this exclusive interview with Collider and talked about the attraction of playing such a challenging role, the importance of keeping the characters and story as real as possible, and working with an actor as committed to the work as Chris Messina. She also talked about where things are going for her character on her NBC comedy Parks & Recreation, reuniting with her Freaks & Geeks co-star Jason Segel for The Muppets, how much she loved working with Kermit the Frog, how she’s looking forward to doing a guest appearance on the upcoming FX series Wilfred (starring Elijah Wood), and her role in the upcoming comedy The Big Year, with Jack Black and Owen Wilson. Back in October FX picked up 13 episodes of an American remake of the Australian series Wilfred. The series follows Ryan (Elijah Wood) as an introvert who struggles to find social and professional happiness, until he meets Wilfred (Jason Gann, the show’s creator and star of the Australian version), a cross between an Australian Shepherd dog and Russell Crowe on a bender. Basically, while the world sees Wilfred as your everyday canine companion, Ryan sees him as a man dressed in a dog suit. In reality, Wilfred is Ryan’s alter-ego intent on pushing him out of his isolated shell after a failed suicide attempt. His love interest comes in the form of Jenna (played by Californication’s Fiona Gublemann) who is actually Wilfred’s owner.

I was wondering how this was going to work, and essentially, you just see a guy in dog suit doing thing's that real canines do and it's actually quite hilarious. It seems like it's going to be a bit dark with comedy akin to Louie, the series featuring comedian Louis C.K. But don't take my word for it. The series won't premiere until June, but you can check out this first promo after the jump.

Later this year, viewers will get to see actor Elijah Wood making his leading debut on television in the unusual new FX television series Wilfred. The comedy is a remake of the Australian show of the same name, and it follows the life of a young man named Ryan (Wood), who is an introvert that struggles to find personal and professional happiness. Then, he meets Wilfred, his neighbor’s canine companion, who the rest of the world sees as an Australian Shepherd dog, but who Ryan sees as a man dressed in a dog suit.

While at the party to celebrate the Fox/FX portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Elijah Wood talked about this rather bizarre concept, his desire to work in comedy on television, how the season starts production in March and juggling this new project with the film roles he has lined up. He also shared some thoughts on his excitement about returning to Middle Earth, alongside director Peter Jackson, for The Hobbit, which he says is slated to start filming in February. Check out what he had to say after the jump:

Question: How is series work for you? Do you like it?

ELIJAH WOOD: Yeah, it’s great. I like the pace. I think the pace is exciting. It keeps things fresh. Especially when you’re dealing with comedy, I think it’s nice to move at a faster pace. I’ve only done the pilot so far. We start shooting the season in March, for three months. That will ...

Back in the day, Elijah Wood starred in a big screen adaptation of the classic series Flipper. It's hard to believe that the young actor would late become the people-mauling villain Kevin in Sin City, but there you have it. Now it looks like Elijah Wood is kind of going full circle with his career as FX announced today, via press release, he's starring in the original comedy series Wilfred (a remake of the Australian comedy series of the same name) of which the network just ordered 13 episodes to air. The series will follow Ryan (Wood) as an introvert who struggles to find social and professional happiness, until he meets Wilfred (Jason Gann, the show's creator and star of the Australian version), a cross between an Australian Shepherd dog and Russell Crowe on a bender. Confused? Hit the jump for a bit of clarification.

Basically, while the world sees Wilfred as your everyday canine companion, Ryan sees him as a man dressed in a dog suit. In reality, Wilfred is Ryan's alter-ego intent on pushing him out of his isolated shell. His love interest comes in the form of Jenna (played by Californication's Fiona Gublemann) who is actually Wilfred's owner. This oughta be quite a riot.
