It was only matter of time, but this is still mostly good news to me.  After the phenomenal success of The LEGO Movie (and a delay in production on The LEGO Movie 2) Warner Bros. is fast-tracking a spinoff in the form of a LEGO Batman movie.  Will Arnett, whose character was a highlight of the amazing first film, will return to voice the hilarious character.  Chris McKay, who acted as animation supervisor on the first film and was attached to direct the sequel, will how helm this picture.

LEGO Batman will be written by Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter scribe Seth Grahame-Smith and is targeting a 2017 release date.  Hit the jump for more on the LEGO Batman movie.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may not be one of the biggest hits of the summer, critically or at the box office, but it looks as though Paramount is happy with that $65 million start because the studio has officially set Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 for a June 3, 2016 debut.  Writers Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec will return to pen the sequel and Michael Bay will be back to produce with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes, however, there’s no word on whether or not Jonathan Liebesman will return to direct the sequel, too.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Review

teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-review

I loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was a kid.  When I was six years old, I watched the animated TV series every day, and had to own every action figure and play set, including the Technodrome.  I had a favorite turtle (Raph), but I liked them all because they had distinct personalities, a sense of humor, a well-defined world, and in retrospect, the gleeful insanity we’ve come to expect from kids’ TV shows of the era.  Shredder’s boss, Krang, was an alien from another dimension who looked like talking brain inside of a robot’s tummy.  Kids went with it.

By comparison, Jonathan Liebesman‘s new live-action adaptation is nothing but apologies and excuses.  Loaded down with worthless exposition, coincidences, clichés, ham-fisted product placement, and lame jokes, the movie rarely uses its heroes for anything more than set pieces.  The 90s TV series and the new movie are both targeted at kids, but at least the Ninja Turtles of my childhood wasn’t ashamed of its existence. [Note: If you're someone who freaks out because of spoilers, don't read this review because I don't want you whining in the comments section]

Megan Fox and Will Arnett Talk TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, Childhood Ninja Turtle Memories, Going from Digital Transformers to Turtles and More

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, based on the endlessly popular characters created by comic book writers Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, four Ninja Turtles – known as Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello – must leave their home in the storm sewers of Manhattan and battle evil with the help of their sensei, Master Splinter.  As Shredder and his evil Foot Clan commit crimes and spread fear through the streets of New York, the Ninja Turtles team up with fearless reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), in order to thwart Shredder’s diabolical plans for domination.

During a conference at the film’s press day, co-stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett talked about when they became fans of the Ninja Turtles, the film’s incredible stunt team, acting opposite non-traditional characters, making a big summer blockbuster, that having actors to work off of for the Turtles definitely made their performances better, and not wanting to ruin something that you love.  Check out what they had to say after the jump.

25 High-Resolution TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Images Featuring Megan Fox, Splinter, Shredder, and More

In anticipation of the film’s release this weekend, Paramount Pictures has unveiled a batch of high-resolution Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles images from director Jonathan Liebesman’s upcoming adaptation.  The film has ellicited skepticism from a fair amount of Turtles fans, and from the trailers the pic looks to be caught between a younger-skewing, humorous tone and the more “gritty”, Transformers-esque action.  If Liebesman keeps the titular Turtles light and funny, I think the pic could end up being a solid adventure film for young teens.  Until its release, these new images provide us with a better look at the CG rendering of said Turtles, as well as the villainous Shredder, mentor Splinter, and the film’s human characters.

Hit the jump to take a look at the high-resolution Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles images, and if you missed any of Perri’s set visit coverage, be sure to check out her full set visit report and on-set interview with Megan Fox and Will Arnett.  The film also stars William Fichtner and the voices of Johnny Knoxville and Tony ShalhoubTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens in theaters on August 8th.

Will Arnett and Megan Fox Talk Turtle Romance, Looking Into Ping Pong Balls Instead of Eyes and More on the Set of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Sure, Megan Fox is quite well known and is likely receiving big offers on a regular basis, but when it came to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, she insisted that it was her passion for the source material and enthusiasm for bringing the iconic characters back to the big screen that set her apart and helped her score the role of April O’Neil.  In Jonathan Liebesman’s movie, April’s a wannabe hard news reporter who’s stuck doing puff pieces with her cameraman, Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett).  While on the hunt for a big scoop that’ll prove her worth, April comes face-to-face with something unimaginable – teenage mutant ninja turtles.

While on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set back in June 2013, we got the chance to sit down with Fox and Arnett to run through the basics of their characters, what kind of relationship they’ve got with the Turtles, how Fox grew up with a serious crush on a Ninja Turtle, and loads more.  Catch it all after the jump.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Comic-Con Panel Recap: Trying to Find Turtle Power in Hall H

I want to be excited for Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I loved the Turtles when I was a kid.  I collected the play sets, went to see the 90s live-action movie multiple times, and watched the animated TV show religiously.  While no remake is going to take that away, I would like to be as excited for the Turtles now as I was back then.  Unfortunately, I haven’t seen anything yet to turn me around, so I hoped today’s Comic-Con panel would do the trick.

International TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Posters Play Up the Action

by     Posted 119 days ago

I want to lie.  I want to say I’m angry about director Jonathan Liebesman’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.  But I’m not.  Even as a childhood fan of the somewhat violent Black & White comics I don’t feel violated.  I’m an adult now, and this is a movie about giant turtles.  And, that being said, it actually doesn’t even look that bad for a kids movie.  And a “kids movie” is certainly what these posters are selling.  Because one of them is a dramatic rendering of turtles plummeting away from an explosion.

In the new live-action iteration, a city is in the iron grip of Shredder (William Fichtner) and the Foot Clan, and it’s up to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, along with the help of reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), to stop Shredder and save the day.  Hit the jump to check out international versions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles posters.  The film also features the voices of Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub and opens in theaters on August 8th.

New TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Trailer and Posters Bring the Dubstep to Introduce Shredder

Paramount Pictures has released a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer as well as a collection of character posters for director Jonathan Liebesman’s adaptation of the popular property. There’s a bit of a disconnect in the trailer in that, aesthetically, the film looks like Transformers, but the tone seems geared towards a younger, less serious audience.  Even Shredder, which we get a good look at here, just looks like a modified Transformer.  I think more colorful/goofy is the way to go with this franchise (you can’t make a “gritty” TMNT without it coming off as ridiculous), but I still can’t tell who this movie is aimed at.  And then there’s the dubstep.

New TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Trailer Offers New Glimpses of the Title Turtles in Action, Plus a New Image Featuring Megan Fox and Will Arnett

It’s only got about 2% new footage in it, but this new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer does feature a couple of new glimpses at the title characters and their nemesis, The Shredder (William Fichtner).  Additionally, Paramount has released a new image that shows off a new look at the film’s very human and relatively mundane characters, Vernon Fenwick (Will Arnett) and April O’Neil (Megan Fox).  I’d still like to see a bit more in the way of footage and storyline before I make a final decision one way or the other on this film, but it’s looking surprisingly entertaining so far.

The film stars Alan RitchsonPete PloszekJeremy HowardNoel Fisher, and Danny Woodburn, with Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub voicing Leonardo and Splinter respectively, and opens August 8th.  Hit the jump to watch the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer and check out the newly released image.

TOP 5: First Teaser Trailer for TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, NOAH, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, SABOTAGE, CinemaCon Coverage

I’ve decided to use this weekend’s release of Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah as an opportunity to reflect on the director’s most soul crushing work to date: his adaptation of the Hubert Selby Jr. novel of the same name, Requiem for a Dream. While I’d list Black Swan as my favorite Aronofsky film, Requiem stands alone as a devastating look at the nature of addiction that, by its end credits, will assure you that nothing decent will ever happen to you again. The film netted the great Ellen Burstyn her sixth Academy Award nod while Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, and Marlon Wayans provided equally powerful performances as heroin addicts whose trajectories only bend downwards. While its story and characters offer little to be optimistic about, Requiem all but cemented Aronofsky’s place among the most skilled and uncompromising filmmakers of his generation. If you haven’t already, check out the film on Amazon Instant Video where it’s available to stream. Just be sure you’re not already in an emotionally fragile state or else you’re in for a long night.

Aronofsky reflections aside, this week’s Top 5 highlights the first teaser trailer for director Jonathan Liebesman‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, interviews for and Matt’s review of Noah, the new trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past, Sabotage interviews and Matt’s review, and Steve’s coverage of CinemaCon from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Keep reading for a brief recap and link to each of the above.
