If Falling Skies doesn’t grab you right away, give it a few episodes. Amid the shuffle of Must-See shows like Game of Thrones, it feels a little quieter and more pedestrian. But if you remain open to it and let it find its rhythm, it turns into a thoroughly enjoyable bit of summer escapism. With the first season Blu-ray now in stores, those who missed it have a second chance to see what it’s all about. Hit the jump for my full review.

TNT’s hit sci-fi drama Falling Skies stopped by Comic-Con to talk about the current second season, the network’s renewal of the show for a third season and how inspiring it is to have the audience’s support.  You can check out our previous interviews with the Falling Skies cast here.  Noah Wyle and Will Patton completed the round table interviews, talking about what we can expect to see between their characters this season, the appearance of Weaver’s daughter and the possibility of an alien invasion.  Hit the jump to read the interview.

We’ve already seen a trailer and TV spot for TNT’s new sci-fi drama series Falling Skies which has a two-hour premiere Sunday, June 19, at 9/8c. Now the cable network has unveiled another extended look at the series with a cool trailer/featurettes which gives us a much better idea of the story and the characters we’ll be introduced to this summer. This is the most impressive look at the series yet, and I’m definitely eager to check it out in a few months.

Oscilloscope has released the first trailer for Meek’s Cutoff, an indie western set in 1845, the earliest days of the Oregon Trail.  Three families hire Stephen Meek (Bruce Greenwood) to lead them on a troubled journey over the Cascade Mountains.  Michelle Williams, Will Patton, Zoe Kazan, Paul Dano, Shirley Henderson, Neal Huff, Tommy Nelson, and Rod Rondeauxn star alongside Greenwood, a character actor I’m excited to see in a lead role.

The trailer effectively invokes a quiet, moody atmosphere.  I expect no less from director Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy).  Watch the trailer after the break.

Catalog titles! Disney is unleashing two of their most beloved action films from the 90’s with Tombstone and Armageddon. The first follows Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) and his brothers (Sam Elliot, Bill Paxton) as they team with Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) to fight off the Clantons, Curly Bill Brocius (Powers Booth) and his gang of cowboys, while in Armageddon Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis) leads a crew of his oil drilling team (including Will Patton, Ben Affleck, Owen Wilson, Michael Clarke Duncan and Steve Buscemi) with assistance from NASA to destroy a giant Meteor heading to kill everyone on Earth. These are manly movies, even if they have love interest subplots that detract from men doing men things – like getting in gunfights and drilling for oil. I only heard about “The Fourth Kind” today and I got really, really excited because I thought we were finally going to get the Richard Kind biopic we’ve all been waiting for.  But no, instead we have what looks like an “X-Files” episode but there’s no Mulder or Scully.  Of course, with alien abduction, “The X-Files” couldn’t come within 100 feet without lugging the show’s convoluted mythology.

Instead, you can learn to fear not only aliens but “recorded interviews” and owls by hitting the jump and checking out the trailer along with a brief synopsis.  “The Fourth Kind” hits theatres on November 6th.
