
The Hero Complex Film Festival always manages to put together a great line-up with fantastic speakers, and 2013 is going to be no different. The L.A. Times has sent out a press release announcing that this year’s Hero Complex Film Festival will celebrate horror and sci-fi by screening films from and talking to John Carpenter, Frank Darabont, Chris Carter, Roland Emmerich, and Guillermo del Toro. There will be showings of Halloween, They Live, The Mist, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone, and Independence Day. Also, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the X-Files, the film festival will show three of the series’ best episodes uncut: “Pilot”, “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose”, and “Jose Chung’s from Outer Space”.

Earlier today, I had the opportunity to sit down with David Duchovny at the members-only Soho House in West Hollywood to chat about his indie feature Goats. In the comedy, he plays Goat Man, a goat-herding sage who has lived with Ellis (Graham Phillips) and his New Age hippie mother (Vera Farmiga) since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of expanding one’s mind.
While we will run the full interview tomorrow, we did want to share what Duchovny had to say about the possibility of a third The X-Files movie, especially after what writer/producer Frank Spotnitz told me about it a week ago. Clearly up for it, he said that he doesn’t understand why Fox isn’t more enthusiastic to get it going, when it’s a homegrown action franchise that they own, and he talked about where he thinks the second film went wrong. According to an interview with David Duchovny published in France’s TVMag today, a script for a new X-Files movie is “in the process of being written.” Who knows where in that process this is, but it’s good news that progress might be happening since the second film The X-Files: I Want to Believe underperformed pretty badly and a sequel didn’t seem too certain. Update: David Duchovny’s publicist has contacted us. She says while Duchovny did an interview with TVMag, what he said was lost in translation. Basically, there is no movement on X-Files 3 right now. Hit the jump for the original story.
