The first international trailer for director Anne Fontaine’s (Coco Before Chanel) drama Two Mothers has, fittingly, found its way online on Valentine’s Day. The film stars Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two lifelong friends who unexpectedly fall in love with each other’s sons (yes, it’s basically a feature film adaptation of “Motherlover”). I caught the film at Sundance at it’s a peculiar movie. The story chronicles these two relationships over a number of years and shows the ups and downs that feel universal to any relationship, but it’s hard to forget that you’re watching two middle-aged women cuddle up to boys that they have known since they were babies. It’s not a bad movie, but it did elicit quite a bit of unintentional laughter at its Sundance premiere. You can read my full review right here.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Xavier Samuel, James Frecheville, and Ben Mendelsohn and will hit theaters later this year.

Relationships are complicated. Every person knows this; it is a universal truth. Love can be both the best experience and the worst experience, but it’s incredibly difficult to live your life on this earth unscathed by the scars of loving another person. Of course, a relationship is made a bit more complicated when you fall in love with your best friend’s son, and director Anne Fontaine takes this complication one step further by chronicling the extended love affair of two best friends who fall in love with each other’s sons. The first trailer has been released for the surfing-crime-drama Drift. The Australian-set film takes place in the 1970s and centers on two brothers (played by Xavier Samuel and Myles Pollard) who start building a business selling surfboards and wetsuits, but then get mixed up with a local drug dealer. Sam Worthington co-stars as a travelling bohemian surf photographer and filmmaker who becomes involved in the brothers’ lives. Judging by this trailer, I wish we had a new Point Break on our hands, but I’m not sure what to make of Drift. While the latest surfing flick, Chasing Mavericks, tanked hard, that doesn’t mean there’s no interest in the genre, so hopefully Drift will have a story to back up cool scenes of riding waves.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Lesley-Ann Brandt. Drift is due out in 2013.

Naomi Watts and Robin Wright will star in The Grandmothers for director Anne Fontaine (Coco Avant Chanel). According to THR, The Grandmothers is “the erotic tale of misguided love”—and stop right there. I think this is a picture for everyone who sees movies when they only know the title (yes, these people exist; you probably know at least one or two of them). Continue, THR: “—a tale of misguided love and a celebration of the enduring nature of female friendship.” Aww. That’s actually kind of sweet. So what’s the actual plot? “The Grandmothers tells the story of two lifelong friends who fall in love with each other’s teenage sons.”
Holy crap. Anne Fontaine is unintentionally turning The Lonely Island’s “Motherlover” into a movie. Hit the jump for more.

With Roland Emmerich’s period drama Anonymous now playing, it’s time to post the last of my video interviews with the cast. While Emmerich is known for his big-budget disaster movies like 2012 and Independence Day, Anonymous is a big departure by centering on a conspiracy to cover up the true author of Shakespeare’s plays. Emmerich made a really entertaining political thriller wrapped in a controversial theory. The film stars Rhys Ifans, Jamie Campbell Bower, David Thewlis, Joely Richardson, Xavier Samuel and Vanessa Redgrave. Here are some clips and the trailer.
During my interview with Xavier Samuel, we talked about how he got cast, karaoke, video games, his thoughts on the authorship of Shakespeare’s plays, how early does he start to prepare once he gets a project, and what Twilight fans want to talk about when they meet him. In addition, Samuel recently made a few Australian movies (Bait, A Few Best Man and Drift) and talks about them. Hit the jump to watch.

From AFM, we have the first images, poster, and synopsis for the surfing drama Drift. Set in 1970s Austrailia, Drift centers on two brothers (Xavier Samuel and Myles Pollard) who launch a surf gear business, selling merchandise out of the back of their van. For me, the main takeaway is the scruffy beard and shaggy hair cut sported by the normally clean-cut Sam Worthington, playing a surf photographer and filmmaker who travels with his a gorgeous Hawaiian surfer (Lesley-Ann Brandt)
Ben Nott and Morgan O’Neill directed Drift. See the images, poster, and synopsis after the jump.

[This is a re-print of my review from the 2011 Toronto Film Festival]
In Anonymous, Edward de Vere, the Earl of Oxford (Rhys Ifans) tells young playwright Ben Jonson (Sebastian Armesto), “All artists have something to say because otherwise they’d just make shoes.” It’s a funny quote when you consider that director Roland Emmerich‘s previous filmography is mainly comprised of brainless blockbusters like Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012. Anonymous, a political thriller wrapped in a conspiracy theory, could not be further from those movies and Emmerich sets out like a man with something to prove. There are no monsters, aliens, cataclysms, and the only explosion is the destruction of the Globe Theatre, which actually did burn to the ground in 1613. The film plays fast and loose with most historical facts (including why the Globe burned down), but it manages to craft an intriguing period piece before getting bogged down in political intrigue and tearing down historical figures.

To the deafening screams of thousands of fans (most of whom were female, naturally) that had camped out for four days, the stars of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse stepped out at L.A. Live’s Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, June 24th for the film’s highly anticipated premiere, which was part of the Los Angeles Film Festival.

Also in attendance were director David Slade, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, the film’s producers, some of the soundtrack artists (The Bravery, Metric, Eastern Conference Champions) and the woman responsible for it all, author Stephenie Meyer. Over the weekend was the big press junket for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. In case you missed our previous coverage, here’s video and complete transcripts of the Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and The Cullen (Peter Facinelli, Liz Reaser, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone and Ashley Greene) press conferences. While you may have thought we were done posting coverage, trust me when I say, I’ve got a lot more for all you Twilight fans. And up next is Dakota Fanning, Bryce Dallas Howard and Xavier Samuel. Like we’ve done for the previous coverage, you can either watch the video of the press conference or read a transcript.
During the interview the three talk about filming Eclipse and how they got involved, what Bryce Dallas Howard had to do with her hair, Dakota Fanning talks about school, what they have coming up, and so much more. If you’re a fan of the Twilight franchise, I’m sure you’ll enjoy hearing what they had to say. Hit the jump to check it out:

With The Twilight Saga: Eclipse getting ready to hit theaters on June 30, Summit Entertainment has released an EPK for the media to use. If you’re not familiar with the term EPK, it stands for Electronic Press Kit. An EPK is where the studio puts movie clips, trailers, generic interviews and behind the scenes footage from whatever movie they’re promoting. With demand for everything Twilight, I figured some of you might like to see the B-Roll and on set interviews with Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, Stephenie Meyer, Bryce Dallas Howard and Ashley Greene.
Also, this weekend is the big Twilight press junket here in Los Angeles and I’m going to attend the press conferences and I’ve also landed some 1:1 interviews. Look for a lot more Twilight coverage in the coming days…

With The Twilight Saga: Eclipse junket this weekend here in Los Angeles, Summit Entertainment has released seven clips from the movie and 33 high resolution images from the David Slade directed film. The other big news I’m happy to report is Summit is going to let reporters film the print portion of the junket, which means instead of having to read what Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson says about Eclipse, you’ll be able to watch the video. I’m doing interviews this Saturday, so you can expect tons of Twilight news later that day.
Hit the jump for the clips, images, and more details on the junket.
