With a couple weeks to go before it hits theaters, A Good Day to Die Hard marketing has gone on overdrive. In the past couple weeks, we’ve seen TV spots, new images, a new clip, and now a four-minute featurette has been released. The big takeaway from the featurette: the action movie is an action movie. My main concern isn’t the amount of action, but how John McClane (Bruce Willis) relates to that action. The guy who took down a fighter jet in Live Free or Die Hard isn’t John McClane. The appeal is that he’s an everyman who kills lots of bad guys and barely survives. I’ve seen all the marketing, and I’m still not sure which McClane is going to show up, but I hope it’s the latter.
Hit the jump to check out the featurette. The film also stars Jai Courtney, Sebastian Koch, Yulia Snigir, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Anne Vyalitsyna, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. A Good Day to Die Hard opens February 14th.

Fox has released a new trailer for A Good Day to Die Hard. Usually at this point, the trailers begin to reveal the basic plot (and some go too far and reveal the whole movie). However, the fifth Die Hard is a little over a month away, and I still don’t know what the plot is beyond “McClane n’ Son fight bad Russians.” The Die Hard movies have never been complex, but the villain always has a clear motive, so we know what John McClane is trying to stop. I think the bad guy in this movie wants nukes or something, but even that seems kind of vague.

The first trailer for the sequel A Good Day to Die Hard has been released. The story takes place in Moscow and sees Bruce Willis’ John McClane teaming up with his estranged son (Jai Courtney) to take on some Russian baddies. The new trailer doesn’t elaborate on the story, but it does show off plenty of action, which is probably a good idea considering this is a Die Hard movie. I still can’t bring myself to get on board with a PG-13 Die Hard film, and I don’t know what director John Moore will bring to the project, but this is a fun trailer, and I especially like the remixing of “Ode to Joy”.

Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others) and Russian actress Yulia Snigir have joined Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney (Spartacus: Blood and Sand) in A Good Day to Die Hard. The latest installment in the Die Hard franchise will reportedly take place in Moscow with John McClane and his estranged son Jack (Courtney) trying “to keep each other alive and the world safe for democracy.” Remember when McClane was a police officer trying to stop criminals? Yes, they were super-criminals, but his mission didn’t involve saving the world. According to Variety, “Koch will play Komorov, while Snigir will play Irina. Both roles are believed to be villainous in nature.” Seriously, does anyone consider Russia a threat anymore? Are McClane n’ Son trying to stop the Red Menace?
John Moore (Max Payne) will direct from a script by Skip Woods (Hitman). A Good Day to Die Hard is slated to open on February 14, 2013.
