Wow.  My head must have been buried in the sand because, aside from a few cursory glances at a poster here and there around the net, I had been more or less unfamiliar with the new Terry Gilliam film, The Zero Theorem. Not anymore.  This new U.S. trailer is fantastic. It’s utterly striking and unique and reminds us of what Gilliam is capable of.  I’m so relieved someone gave him some money to play around with again.

The Zero Theorem stars Christoph Waltz as Qohen Leth, a computer hacker who searches for the meaning of life while being distracted by Management, a shadowy figure from an Orwellian corporation; Melanie ThierryTilda Swinton, and David Thewlis also star.  The film hits iTunes on August 19th and limited theaters on September 19th. The first images from the set of director Terry Gilliam’s upcoming sci-fi film The Zero Theorem have surfaced, and they’re unsurprisingly a little out there.  The film stars Christoph Waltz as Qohen Leth, a computer hacker who searches for the meaning of life while being distracted by Management, a shadowy figure from an Orwellian corporation.  We recently learned that Matt Damon would be reteaming with Gilliam for a small role in the pic, and these first set photos give us a look at Damon’s fantastically flamboyant character.  The actor recently revealed that he ran into a bit of trouble when he had to shave his head for Elysium reshoots, but Gilliam decided to take advantage of the look and present Damon in a way he’s never been seen before.

Hit the jump to check out the images, which also include a glimpse of Waltz’s bald lead character.  The film also stars Tilda Swinton. [Update: We've removed the unofficial images.]

Terry Gilliam Talks about His “Beleaguered” Past, Updates His IMDb Page, and His Thoughts on WATCHMEN

Sometime my job is weird.  This past September, I was awoken by a phone call from a publicist asking if I wanted to come down to DragonCon-Atlanta’s major geek convention-and interview Terry Gilliam, the director behind such classics as Brazil, Time Bandits, Twelve Monkeys, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, for his upcoming film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.  I had to get downtown in less than 90 minutes, which usually wouldn’t be a problem except DragonCon, a huge college football game, multiple concerts, and pretty much every major Labor Day event were happening at the same time.

Thankfully, I made it just as Mr. Gilliam was finishing up his Q&A with his many fans who came to hear him speak about Parnassus and his upcoming projects.  I was lucky enough to ask him about those projects as well along with his legacy, his past, and why he didn’t really care for this year’s Watchmen, a graphic novel he  attempted to adapt twice: once as a movie and then as a miniseries after deciding the story was too dense to be crammed into a motion picture.  It was really a great interview because Gilliam was very open and has no need for politic because he doesn’t care about working with a certain person; he just cares about getting his films made his way and that alone is impressive.
