TANGLED Animated Series to Premiere on The Disney Channel in 2017
The adventures of Rapunzel will continue….in two years. Disney announced this morning that they have closed a deal to create an animated series based on their pre-Frozen mega-hit, Tangled, which is loosely based on the story of Rapunzel and her epic, climbable hair. Both Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, who voiced the film’s two leads, Rapunzel and Eugene, are returning for the show’s first season order at least. The season order from Disney sets the series premiere for 2017 on the Disney Channel, with Oscar-winning composer and long-time Disney mainstay Alan Menken reuniting with lyricist Glenn Slater on the project that last brought them together. The series is being developed and produced by Chris Sonnenburg, who produced the Amy Adams-lead Enchanted for Disney, and Shane Prigmore, hot off his success as a producer of The Lego Movie. Little else is known about the exact release date or other voice talents joining the series, but stay tuned for updates.
The official synopsis goes a little something like this:
Set between the events of the feature film and the start of the 2012 short film, Tangled Ever After, the animated series unfolds as Rapunzel acquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona. Her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world drives her to the realization that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny. She boldly puts her crown and impending marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of the King who, after missing out on Rapunzel’s youth, must accept that his daughter is now an independent young woman. Accompanying Rapunzel on her journey will be Eugene; the plucky chameleon sidekick, Pascal; the no-nonsense horse, Maximus; the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs; and newcomer Cassandra, a tough-as-nails handmaiden, who becomes Rapunzel’s confidant.
