Trailer for TANGLED Starring Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore; Plus 6 High-Resolution Images

For those who don’t know, Tangled was originally called Rapunzel.  But after The Princess and the Frog failed to attract the coveted demographic of young boys due to the word “princess” in its title, Rapunzel became Tangled.  The first trailer for the film continues that trend.  Most of it is devoted not to the long-haired princess, but to the roguish “Flynn Rider” who gets all the jokes, charm, and comes off like he’s the main character.  He’s amusing and I think Zachary Levi does a splendid job of voicing the character (you won’t hear Chuck Bartowski), but I’m fascinated how they’re trying to make sure it doesn’t come off like a “girl’s movie” because apparently that’s the worst thing ever.

I’m also a little surprised that at the look of the film because the CG on French Rococo artist Jean-Honore Fragonard’s painting “The Swing”.  Instead, it just looks like a standard animated CG movie.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with six high-resolution images and judge for yourself.  Tangled hits theaters in 3D on November 24th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Tangled:

When the kingdom’s most wanted — and most charming — bandit Flynn Rider hides out in a mysterious tower, he’s taken hostage by Rapunzel, a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair. Flynn’s curious captor, who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs.

  1. I must say that I'm monumentally disappointed in that trailer. When Glen Keane was doing this, back when this was still called Rapunzel, I was so excited. It had so much potential and I thought this would be the movie where Disney brought the magic they've lost for so many years. Bolt and Princess and the Frog were good, but I thought this would truly be their first great movie since Lilo & Stitch.

Now, it just looks like something more fitting for DreamWorks than Disney. Gone is the gorgeous art style that we were promised, gone is the promise of a truly timeless fairy tale like Beauty and the Beast. It's all been replaced with slapstick and pop music.

I hope that this is just a marketing blunder and that the movie will be as good as I had hoped, but at this point it looks like Disney has made a crap movie to go along with the crap title.

  2. Its a marketing blunder. There is no pop music. Alan Menken is doing the music, and its a musical. Why this trailer looks like this I have no idea.

  3. i always love the story since i was a little girl, i never really watch any movie with Rapunzel except Sherk 3 but i don’t count that. When i saw that there was going to be a Rapunzel movie i went to see the trailer and now i can’t wait until the movie comes out it looks really interesting and funny. I think this movie is going to be my favorite princess movie :D three questions when is the third trailer going to come out? what was the deal that Rapunzel and flynn make? and how was this story inspired by the “the swing”
