The 2020 Oscar race is already underway. Just hours after Rami Malek took home the Best Actor Oscar for his impersonation portrayal of Freddie Mercury in the hit Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, actor Taron Egerton took the stage with none other than Elton John at the Elton John Aids Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party to sing “Tiny Dancer.”

Egerton plays John in the upcoming music biopic Rocketman, which was directed by Dexter Fletcher—who stepped in and finished Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired. While Malek was lip syncing in Bohemian Rhapsody, Egerton does all of his own singing in Rocketman—a fact that is underlined by this impressive live performance.

Indeed, it’s clear that Paramount Pictures is seizing upon the buzz surrounding Malek’s performance to do a bit of very long lead campaigning for Egerton at next year’s Oscars. And to be fair, if Malek can win for merely mouthing the words to Queen songs, why wouldn’t Egerton have a shot for doing all of his own singing as Elton John?

Whether this pans out awards-wise next year or not, it’s a nice taste of what fans can expect from Rocketman when the film hits theaters on May 31st. Check out Egerton and John’s live performance below.
