Taylor Lautner is attached to star in Fox 2000′s adaptation of the Catherine Fisher young adult novel, Incarceron. Lautner will play Finn, a seventeen-year-old jailed in Incarceron, “a prison so vast that it contains not only cells, but also metal forests, dilapidated cities, and vast wilderness.”
Lautner recently filmed Abduction, a thriller directed by John Singleton. Production on parts one and two of Breaking Dawn — the final two chapters in The Twilight Saga — dominate his immediate future. And a film based on the Hasbro toy Stretch Armstrong is on the books at some point. Incarceron sounds cool enough that I hope it leapfrogs over Stretch in Lautner’s queue. Hit the jump for a synopsis of Fisher’s novel.

Incarceron is a prison so vast that it contains not only cells, but also metal forests, dilapidated cities, and vast wilderness. Finn, a seventeen-year-old prisoner, has no memory of his childhood and is sure that he came from Outside Incarceron. Very few prisoners believe that there is an Outside, however, which makes escape seems impossible.
And then Finn finds a crystal key that allows him to communicate with a girl named Claudia. She claims to live Outside- she is the daughter of the Warden of Incarceron, and doomed to an arranged marriage. Finn is determined to escape the prison, and Claudia believes she can help him. But they don’t realize that there is more to Incarceron than meets the eye. Escape will take their greatest courage and cost more than they know. [Amazon]
According to Deadline, Adam Cooper and Bill Collage will pen the adaptation.
Fans of the novel: speak up in the comments. Is Fisher’s prose as film-ready as it sounds? Is Lautner right for the lead role? Who should play Claudia?

That sounds really good. I’m a Taylor Lautner fan so will see any movie he is in. I will buy the book this weekend.
The book is good, very visual, imaginitive and tricky. I think the key (no pun) to success will be the director. I keep thinking of Guillermo del Toro, I believe he’d be a great choice. As for Claudia… Saoirse Ronan would be lovely.
If they’re going to do it, they need to go all out.
