Now, on one hand, Taylor Swift is rapidly becoming a great American icon, so it’s no wonder that UK celebrities James McAvoy, Sophie Turner, and screenwriter/producer Simon Kinberg would happily take a picture with her. (Wouldn’t you?) But now we get into the somewhat suspect territory of a pop superstar who has turned in soundtrack efforts for numerous TV shows and movies, even dabbling into acting herself in various projects, appearing in a picture alongside X-Men: Apocalypse’s cast and crew. Before you start your speculation engines, don’t worry; we’ve done the heavy lifting for you.
In a rational world, I would look at this picture and say, “Hey! These folks look like they’re enjoying each other’s company. And boy does McAvoy’s psychic dome look extra shiny today!” But in an alternate universe, a universe based only on conjecture with no solid evidence to base conclusions on, an unanswered question embedded in this image begs for my attention: Could Swift join the mutant franchise as Dazzler?
Yes, my friends, Dazzler, the superheroine long affiliated with the X-Men who has the ability to convert sound vibrations into light and energy beams. Originally conceived as a collaborative character between Casablanca Records and Marvel Comics, Dazzler aka Alison Blaire, started out as a disco dancer who eventually moved on to rock and adult contemporary stardom in addition to landing her own solo series in the 1980s. In short: An attractive blonde woman with an incredible voice trained as a singer/actress/dancer who possesses powerful mutant abilities. Now let’s first ask ourselves if Swift embodies that character, with the follow-up of, would it be a wise move to integrate her massive fanbase across media? I’d answer yes to both. Whether that happens or not is another story.
Here’s the photo in question that features Swift alongside Kinberg, McAvoy, and Turner:
