I’ve never seen a “Friday the 13th” film unless you count “Freddy vs. Jason” and no one really should.
Part of the reason is that while the character is a horror classic, none of his films really are.
It’s not “Halloween” where John Carpenter reached deep into the fears of suburbia for the first time.
It’s not Tobe Hooper’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” which is a fantastic amalgam of the real combined with a nightmare.
But the franchise could certainly use a relaunch so while I whole-heartedly opposed the remake of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and am considering staging a protest against the remake of “Rosemary’s Baby”, I’m actually looking forward to the remake of “Friday the 13th”.
The first teaser for the film solidifies those hopes (although I got perhaps an unintended chuckle out of “He wasn’t a very good swimmer,”) This is how you get people excited about a character that had become more camp (sorry for the pun) than scary. Check it out below and for those just tuning in, here’s a brief plot synopsis in case you’re new to modern American pop culture:
Camp counselors are picked off one by one in a gruesome fashion by a mysterious figure wearing a hockey mask.
“Friday the 13th” opens on Friday, February 13th, 2009. Click here for HD.
