Seth MacFarlane could use a hit after A Million Ways to Die in the West tanked hard, and he’ll probably get it with Ted 2, a sequel to one of the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all-time.  Details on the sequel’s plot are scarce, but we now know that a significant chunk might take place at San Diego Comic-Con.  Beinamovie.com is looking for folks that want to be an extra in the film, and the site has revealed that the scenes they’ll be shooting will be set at Comic-Con.  Filming will be taking place in Los Angeles from October 20 – 31st, so we shouldn’t expect some brief, Family Guy-style tangent like “It’s like that time we were at Comic-Con…”  The film stars Seth MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Amanda Seyfried, and Patrick Warburton, but we don't know how many of these cast members will be in the Comic-Con scenes.

Hit the jump for my thoughts on part of the movie being set at Comic-Con and for details on how you can be an extra.  Ted 2 opens June 26, 2015.

I'm a little surprised that Ted 2 is going to Comic-Con.  The movie will open before Comic-Con 2015, so unlike Paul, which also had scenes set at Comic-Con, there's no marketing tie-in (not that the tie-in was the reason for Paul's existence, but there was a promotional synergy in place).  If MacFarlane has found a place to use Comic-Con in his film, more power to him, but I hope he doesn't go for the obvious geek jokes, i.e. virgins, socially awkward, and hung up on nerdy minutiae.  I'm not saying these stereotypes are false; they're just not particularly insightful.

I'm also a bit curious to see how the public at large will react to MacFarlane's depiction of Comic-Con, an event that non-geeks know about, but may not have any awareness of beyond cosplay.  Paul attempted to show some of the convention beyond the costumes, but Ted 2 is going to pull in a much bigger audience, and I want to know if that audience will react to the setting.
