First Red Band Trailer and Images from Seth MacFarlane’s TED

The first trailer and a batch of images from Seth MacFarlane‘s feature directorial debut Ted have gone online. The film stars Mark Wahlberg as a grown man whose childhood wish that his teddy bear would come to life suddenly comes true. The catch is that the bear (played by Macfarlane using motion-capture) turns out to be a swearing, pot-smoking wreck. The trailer is pretty fantastic, especially since it’s red band. Wahlberg lets his “fuck”-laden Boston accent fly, and he and Ted look to have some incredibly entertaining chemistry. The bear is the most adorable foul-mouthed, dirty-minded stuffed animal you’ll ever come across and I’m kind of in love with him.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and images. The film also stars Mila Kunis, Joel McHale, Patrick Warburton, Giovanni Ribisi and the voice of MacFarlane as Ted. Ted opens July 13th.

Here’s the synopsis for Ted:

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane brings his boundary-pushing brand of humor to the big screen for the first time as writer, director and voice star of Ted. In the live action/CG-animated comedy, he tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since.

    WOW

    • sense 11

my face is red i laughed so hard at this trailer, its like Family Guy come to life. Some sensitive types with unrealistic standards for comedies will hate on this but most people will love it.

      • Liam_H

No, people prefer comedies that aren’t just random scenes that are arbitrarily inserted in.

      • sense 11

That’s why Family Guy is listed in the top 20 ratings list every night because people dont like it

      • Ted

Most popular = people w the most time on their hands watching lame cartoon comedy w/ ‘rebellious’ themes. 14 year old boys. Be a man. Stop watching lame crap.

      • sense 11

Sure whatever you say buddy, I’m sure your time is spent doing grand things for humanity, not just trolling around online.

  • AlexHeyNa

    I… don’t know. I just don’t know.

  • Creighton

    This looks terrible…

    • R

I agree, it would be funny if the dudes from South Park wrote it but they’re not that dumb to write sh*t like this.

      • jonathan

Really…??? Southpark guys???…..Those guys are the worst!!…BASKETBALL….c-mon man….they try too hard to be over the top and funny.

      • Lexis

johnathan- I do agree that was a pretty bad movie, but they didn’t write it. They only acted in it and they both say how they regret it.

      • jp

South park sucks …….and obviously u don’t know Wut a funny movie cuz the Ted movie is hilarious ….idiots …

  • Travman93

I’m not sure. I laughed during a few parts, but I honestly don’t think that this will be a winner.

    • Chrissy

i know what you mean. I laughed at some parts but didn’t get the omg that’s hilarious feeling I was hoping for.

  • Farzan

Okay that was surprisingly really funny. Now I’m really stoked for this film. Seth created Family Guy and I’m gonna give this a try

    Holy Crap, that was funny.

I’m going to be first in line when this gets to theaters.

    um… Wilfred?

    • Romsy

Everybody claiming it is a ‘Wilfred’ rip off needs some film history lessons. Go watch ‘Harvey’ with one of the greatest actors of all time, Jimmy Stewart.

      • rod

Wilfred revived the ‘Harvey’ concept 60 years after the movie came out, and adapted it into a very different framework. A couple years after Wilfred saw massive success this movie is apparently using the exact same framework. Can no one differentiate between homage and theft? The trailers for Ted have a lot more in common with Wilfred than Wilfred has in common with Harvey . . .

  • Tootles

How is this not a Wilfred rip-off?

    • Romsy

‘Wilfred’ is a rip off of Jimmy Stewart’s classic ‘Harvey’ from 1950.

      • LEM

        Everything is a remix.

    • ekplug

First of all in Wilfred, no one knows he can talk but Ryan. Obviously in this film everyone can see Ted talk and move.

But they both smoke pot, so there’s that.

      • Trom

Considering David Zukerman (Family Guy Veteran) adapted Wilfred for U.S. Television. It’s not surprising that Seth MacFarlane recycled parts of Wilfred into a hit movie for himself.

  • Sam S.

Looks decent. Ted’s voice is too much like Peter Griffin’s with a little bit of Brian sprinkled in. I mostly noticed it in his inflections, which obviously is hard to change, but his voice is just too distinctive for me.

  • mee

i will see this for mila kunis

  • Lexis

It will most likely be just like Family guy, apoorly written movie with a ton of gags I heard in 4th grade.

  • Dan

Well if a fucking dog and baby can get away with going out in public and talk, get jobs, drink, smoke, and have sex (Brian for that last one), why can’t a teddy bear?

    • DerpyMcDerpstein

Well one is a cartoon and the other is Markey Mark talking to awkwardly awful CGI teddy bear

      • Dan

True. But I think Seth MacFarlane is the only person that can get away with a movie like this. Plus I see this somewhat as a real life Family Guy. At some points, Markey Mark is Peter and Ted is Brian, and other times Markey Mark is Brian and Ted is Stewie.

  • J-rad

I laughed a few times so I will see it … And I dont care who you are when Ted Said ” What like an*l ? ” you laughed !

  • terry

    Garbage with a capital G.
And is it me or does it seems weird that such a macho a$$ dude like Walberg’s character would have had a stuffed teddy bear? Is that what they call irony or am I reading too far into it?
And why the f*** is Mark’s hair so effing dark?
    Oh, grecian.
Only people going to see that sh** are guidos and them nasty guidettes.

  • bobafett

So basically Ted is Peter Griffin, and has the same voice.

The target market for this movie is 14-16 year old boys, a la Porky’s and the American Pie movies. While they can’t get in, they buy tickets to another movie and sneak in.

    • BobLoblaw

Totally. I’m fully expecting this to underperform, but for whichever PG-13 movie opens alongside it to have surprisingly large numbers. The other studios have thought of this too, I’m sure. The sneak-in overflow will be worth a couple mil, at least.

I watched this trailer during a thunderstorm and lost it when they sang the thunder song. I went back, watched it again, and sang along. That’s the power of movie making.
