MTV has unveiled the intense first trailer for season five of the original series Teen Wolf. The fifth season finds Scott (Tyler Posey) and his friends facing down their senior year in high school as new villains combine science and the supernatural to create circumstances in which the pack is divided amongst itself. As with the other seasons of the show, Season 5 will be split into two batches of 10 episodes each with a break in between.

I’ve never seen an episode so I can’t speak to how this trailer stacks up against the rest of the series, but it strikes me as something that wouldn’t be out of place in the superhero lineup on The CW. I’m not sure if there’s much crossover between the fans of Teen Wolf and those shows, but I get a similar vibe between the two—though Teen Wolf is quite a bit darker. While showrunner Jeff Davis previously thought that Season 5 would be the show’s last, he revealed in March that it could extend beyond:

“I thought this might be the last season, but now there’s talk that it may not be. I have no idea what we’d do for 100 episodes, but we’re going to be up to 80, by the end of this season. It’s crazy to think that a show called Teen Wolf will have hit 80 episodes and have stories to tell, but we still do. I see it as books in an ongoing series, and each season is a book. There were seven Harry Potter books, so who knows? But, it might also be time to move on. We’ll see.”

So, Teen Wolf fans, this may or may not be the final go. The two-part Season 5 premiere begins on June 29th on MTV and continues on Tuesday, June 30th. The series also stars Dylan O’Brien, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Arden Cho, and Dylan Sprayberry.

Read the official synopsis for Season 5 below.

On the eve of Senior Year, Scott (series star Tyler Posey) and his friends find themselves facing the possibility of a future without each other, a next phase of their lives that might take them in different directions despite their best intentions. New villains that use a combination of science and the supernatural for a malevolent and mysterious purpose that will eventually pit Scott and his friends against their greatest enemy yet.
