The Turtles are getting a boost from a DC superhero. Variety reports that Steven Amell, who toplines the CW superhero series Arrow, has joined the cast of Paramount Pictures’ upcoming sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Amell will be taking on the role of Casey Jones in the pic, a fan favorite character who becomes an ally of the turtles and a love interest for April O’Neil.

Megan Fox is reprising her role as O’Neill from the first film, and Variety notes that it was Amell’s chemistry with Fox that ultimately won him the role, which means get ready for some loooooove in the next Turtles movie.

Earth to Echo director David Green is at the helm of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, taking over for the first film’s director Jonathan Liebesman. Also returning from the first movie is Will Arnett, but it’s unclear if Paramount will be bringing back the actors who performed the motion-capture for the turtles.

Curiously, Paramount didn’t opt to dub over the voices of the actors playing the turtles until later in post-production on TMNT, bringing in Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub to lend their pipes to some of the central characters. The reboot was a success for the studio, earning $485 million worldwide, so it’ll be interesting to see where the franchise goes from here; the director swap signals a possible change in creative direction.

Production on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will get underway next month, filling in Amell’s hiatus from Arrow. The sequel is slated for release on June 3, 2016.
