In anticipation of the film’s release this weekend, Paramount Pictures has unveiled a batch of high-resolution Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles images from director Jonathan Liebesman’s upcoming adaptation.  The film has ellicited skepticism from a fair amount of Turtles fans, and from the trailers the pic looks to be caught between a younger-skewing, humorous tone and the more “gritty”, Transformers-esque action.  If Liebesman keeps the titular Turtles light and funny, I think the pic could end up being a solid adventure film for young teens.  Until its release, these new images provide us with a better look at the CG rendering of said Turtles, as well as the villainous Shredder, mentor Splinter, and the film’s human characters.

Hit the jump to take a look at the high-resolution Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles images, and if you missed any of Perri’s set visit coverage, be sure to check out her full set visit report and on-set interview with Megan Fox and Will Arnett.  The film also stars William Fichtner and the voices of Johnny Knoxville and Tony ShalhoubTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens in theaters on August 8th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

AAAAHHAAHHAHAHAAAAA!!! That is the WORST CGI I have ever laid eyes on since Meglagon!

And Megan Fox looks so empty headed or vacant is a better term. Look at her eyes she’s so not even there.

    …some one please spare us…

    • rodriguez256

The worst? How many movies do you actually watch? This is some great looking CGI, give credit where credit is due. Always have to be the negative guy on here?

      • Mezmero

Fanboys say:”Mikey’s bandana is too orange!!” LOL! They are on the last leg of this TMNT hate,if it’s number two it will make tons of money. I know for a fact their are grown men mad that their kids want to see this he must be one of them.

      • DEADP00L

Except I dont even know TMNT beyond the cheesefest 90′s cartoon which I wasnt even born to watch…and I turn 18 next year.

      • rodriguez256

I’m 30, I grew up with the original cartoon series and the three live action movies and every toy that came with them. This looks like a great rendition of what I grew up with.

      • DEADP00L

I disagree and I dont see why your generation got better movies than we are getting when you were our age. You got EVERYTHING new INCLUDING great actors in some of the most ridiculous roles even. All I am getting is reboot this and reboot that with hackjobs and horrendous actors like Megan Fox – its not fair, it’s nothing new, and it’s BORING. If anything my generation are getting the cheap bootlegged versions of great original material ie the short end.

It’s like showing off a great manufactured toy that’s been in your life for 20 years and is still as good as new; while my generation are holding the Chinese cheap version that doesn’t hold together longer than a day.

And YOU and others like you are encouraging this. Why do things have to get worse for my generation? When everything you had was always getting better? Suddenly we’re born and everything new just stops happening.

Its like collective punishment of cinema for generation Z. .

      • rodriguez256

Lol I can see where you are coming from. However the great movies and cartoons that I got to have came out when I was really young. So all those movies appealed to kids. It’s pretty much the same thing now. A lot of these movies are actually targeted at the younger audience. So by your age it wouldn’t seam as interesting. If I was 18 and then everything I loved came about I might not have so intreated in it as I was as a kid. What I love about reboots and I get a lot of dislike for is that these movies give the new younger generations some to like and watch. They get to be exposed to the stuff I got to see at their age. It’s harder to satisfy an audience has it gets older, especially franchises that are rebooted from their younger years.

      • DEADP00L

So essentially my generations teens are the disregarded ones? I mean that totally just bypasses me and goes straight to my little sister who wouldn’t even be allowed to watch this movie because of its violence and glorifying of violence. So I don’t see how even in that regard it’s fair.

      • lord jim

yeah i know what you mean, and i was born 1980, but in my book the greatest movies came out between the late sixties and 1989.
besides we are punished too, the past is the past and even old people have to live with all the stupid remakes and reboots.

the funniest part is that, you are still going to watch the movie. lol. just watch the movie before you start judging it.

      • DEADP00L

No I’m not actually. Ive got SCHOOL to prep for. And seriously I couldn’t be ballsed to waste my money on it when I could buy a new set of sneakers and a backpack for the year.

I’ll never understand people like you, why is it so hard to believe people have LIVES beyond the cinema…

Also, if you knew my history you’d know that when I say I wont watch a movie – I dont.

      • Daveoeh

You are 18. Lighten up bud it gets way worse then a mediocre Micheal Bay film.

      • DEADP00L

        I’m 17…

And I cant see how much worse it can get when all we get are reboots and prequels to reboots.

      • osarumen erhunmwunsee

i would have preferred them to use the original TMNT. the original TMNT where pretty dark and serious like batman. i dont know why they stick to this unserious version. well, i will watch it online. lol

Living in denial because you want to hate this movie SO MUCH! That CGI is excellent. Whether or not it ends up being entertaining (notice, entertaining does not always equal ‘good’) I will reserve judgment on when I bring my son to see it at the matinee this weekend.

Looks just as bad as you would expect…who on earth is going to support this movie? Honestly, please boycott this garbage so we don’t have to endure stuff like this and Transformers EVER AGAIN…and this is coming from someone who grew up on the turtles…

    • Mezmero

You didn’t even know Splinter was in this movie and don’t lie to cover your tracks.

    • rodriguez256

Who’s forcing you to watch it? Why boycott what others might enjoy because you don’t?

      • lord jim

because studios might finance something original that way.but yeah i know that this is far fetched, i don´t think studios even know what original means these days…

I actually enjoyed the film. Not perfect by any means, but still enjoyable. People are going to hate aspects of the story and some of the character interpretations, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

  • fechu1922

to me, the cgi looks amazing. The picture where the turtles are inside the van looks like actors in rubber suits. You may hate the design but …. amazing vfx work.

This movie is super weird. I don’t know what to make of it. I love the inclusion of the Turtle Van, that’s pretty sweet. But why are ninjas wearing so much stuff that goes ‘clink’ when it moves? Aren’t they supposed to be ninjas? No way any of those guys could sneak up on someone with their necklaces, electronics, or bone-armor. That just seems weird to me.
And was juice is Raphael on? Guy needs some serious drug testing.

    • Mezmero

So it wasn’t Wierd in the when was comicbook or a 90′s movie? They made a movie about a talking foul mouthed TeddyBear and the number one movie in America features a talking tree and racoon. How much is rent in under the rocks by the stupid train?

      • Merlin235

Dang dude, chill out. You treat everyone like you’re better than they are? It’s so frustrating that people feel the need to get online and insult strangers. Some day I’m going to write a thesis on what kind of psychology engenders that attitude. Judging by your comment history, you make a habit of it.

Currently at a stellar 40% on rottentomatoes. Off to a great start.

    • HG2012

      just like the 1990 movie

      • milo

        Yep.

      • lord jim

in 1990 the expectations were higher, even for blockbuster escapism.movies that have 80% today would have gotten 60% twenty years ago.

    • Redjester

To be honest, did anyone think it would ever get a 40 to begin with (well 33, now)? I was expecting around 9 or 10 myself.

      • milo

Well that was only with the first ten reviews…now it’s down to 18%.

  • appolox

They look really good in some of the pictures but really weird in other’s.

  • Dave

    Is that Karai???!

    • Mezmero

Yes. Better to ask people who are actual fans and not BayHaters, they know nothing.

      • mattinacan

the fans, like me, want a good movie – not this garbage

      • DEADP00L

        Is she Palestinian?

  • appolox

Can someone who has seen the movie answer 2 questions for me? Is Shredder a good villain, and is Megan Fox at least tolerable?

  • Mezmero

Is it me or do people not realize when to quit? It’s over the reviews are in and you haters lost!! HAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahah! Now everybody is going to be best buds with Goldberg so he can bash this movie,if he finds one thing he likes you will send him death threats LOL! This really is not out negativity,I just don’t get why you call yourself a fan but dogged Eastman’s life’s work. You called him a sell out and you want is signature on whatever you kept from your childhood SMFH! Guess what I gave it all to my little cuz and he gave it to his little cuz because years back because he is a soft-more. Was I mad no memories stay with you longer than objects so let the generation have this and enjoy it with them like we did.

    • mattinacan

      ^^ mentally challenged

    • Lolwut

“the reviews are in and you haters lost!!”
I don’t know what you are smoking but at Rotten Tomatoes there are only 10 reviews listed so far and only 4 of them are fresh. On Metacritic it has a score of 38 out of 100 based on only 6 reviews.

      • milo

Yep, there may be some defense to make for this movie but “the reviews are in” ain’t it.

  • Nathaniel Haywood

Wow, lots of hate for the CGI. I can totally understand if people don’t like the DESIGN of the new turtles (not sure myself how I feel about them being Hulks with no noses and shells). The CGI itself, though, is exceptional. Clearly among the best of anything current. Remember, special effects are meant to be seen in motion, not in still shots. Regardless, I challenge you to find me a high resolution image of CGI that is far and above what is shown here. Post the link, and then you can say I told you so. Complain about the design, and you’ve got firmer ground to stand on.

  • Redjester

Raise your hand if you think this is going to be any good. Anyone, anyone?

    • rodriguez256

      I raised my hand.

  • mattinacan

looks really fucking awful. Early tracking has TMNT coming in at $39M this weekend, so it will likely fall to GOTG, thank god.

    • ʝoe βloggs

I wish one of the turtles will use his katana on Bay’s neck. Loved this snip comment from Eric Eisenberg (CinemaBlend):

“Entirely hollow, poorly put together, and will require an audience on its level of stupidity to survive. Don’t be one of its supporters.”

      • DEADP00L

OH! YES please fight for us! We want good movies we can watch over and over and over again the same way generation X and Y got to do!

I would kiss that wonderful man if I saw him!

  • ʝoe βloggs

Is anyone really stoked about this film? To me it looks a STV kinda flick. And it’s Michael Bay. That same aesthetic we’ve seen a 1000 times over.

  • YodaRocks

I made my choice and gave my money to Marvel and not to Micheal Bay.
