Starring Megan FoxWill ArnettWilliam FichtnerAlan RitchsonPete PloszekJeremy HowardNoel Fisher, and Danny Woodburn, with Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub voicing Leonardo and Splinter respectively, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens August 8th.  Hit the jump to check out the new images.

Via Idle Hands, who snagged images from the book at the Book Expo of America 2014.  They also have a quote from Fox, who described her take on O’Neil as follows:

She grew up with a chip on her shoulder that eventually became a great asset, providing her the courage to become a little bit of a modern-day Joan of Arc.

And as a bonus, Arnett teased his favorite film from the movie which spoiler involved an 18-wheeler and a cliff!

Splinter’s design is the first thing that actually looked at least a little cool from this movie. Shredder looks decent enough.

  • Trent_N

“And as a bonus, Arnett teased his favorite film from the movie which spoiler”

    What does this even mean?

    • Danny Mac

@Trent_N – “And as a bonus, Arnett teased his favorite film from the movie which spoiler involved an 18-wheeler and a cliff” is the full thing. You need to hightlight the portion after “spoiler”. Also, they might have meant “clip” or “moment” from the movie instead of the word “film”

    • 80sRobot

This reads like the wordmush I expect from AICN.

  • Marissa Evans

The turtles look great on paper.
As for Splinter and Shedder…holy shit they look even better.
Perhaps it’ll be like ‘Tintin’ where they don’t look as good in trailers and stills but will look better in the film as a whole. Gotta stay positive.

The original TV cartoon was already a very stark change from the real original source material (the comics that were dark and brutal). The cartoon that everyone so highly regards from our childhood was a watered down version to sell toys.

One of the two creators worked on this movie and signed off on everything. The other creator was left in the cold and he is ripping the movie.

In the end, it is a Bay production. It might be an entertaining summer movie, but likely nothing amazing. The only thing that really bothers me that I’ve seen so far are the noses on the Turtles.

    • Preet

I recently started to read this comic and was surprised that Shredder was only Vol 1 and not a main villain. I agree the comics are very different to cartoons.

      • Matt Hardwick

He comes back again roughly 10 volumes later for a 3 volume arc.

      • Convoy

They took elements here and there from the comic and adapted them to the cartoon. Both of the new cartoons are more faithful to the original source material.

    • Matt Hardwick

Which creator worked on this movie? Kevin Eastman or Peter Laird?

      • enderandrew

Eastman is working on the new movie. Laird is not.

      • Hasdi Bravo

Laird had his chance with TMNT before he sold it off for $60M. After being cut off creatively for years, it would be interesting to see Eastman take on it. They seem to have put aside their differences in collaborating with Laird’s B&W TMNT comic.

      • Matt Hardwick

Tis a real shame, because the original comics are awesome. A faithful adaptation of them would be the perfect TMNT movie.

  • Jennifer’s Lobby

Couldn’t be more excited for this movie!
I don’t hate Megan Fox, and especially not for being in this movie. April had an attitude in the original series, so getting an actress than can handle that was a requirement. Not sure why people hate her so much. “Jennifer’s Body” kicked major ass. It’s not like she writes her own material – WRITERS create her characters, as well as the dialogue that comes out of those characters’ mouths. Hate the WRITERS not the ACTORS.

    • God’s Diamond

Yea I liked Jennifer’s Body. I was hoping they would do a sequel with Seyfried and maybe a mf cameo, but maybe people will appreciate it more later on.

      • JJFGeek

Jennifer’s Lobby & God’s Diamond Thanx you guys i needed a good laugh. Jennifers’s Body what a joke.

      • Jennifer’s Lobby

Jennifer’s Body definitely had it’s fair share of laughs in it, didn’t it? That’s why I love it. Glad you agree! =)

This looks like it’ll be good. I mean, if you just forget ALL the things that are working against it……. O.o

-Directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Battle Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans)
-Produced by Michael Bay (self explanatory)
-Executive Produced by Denis L. Stewart (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Iron Man 2, Cowboys & Aliens, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters)
-Written by Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec (writers on CW’s Star-Crossed)
-Written by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman, Divergent)
-Female lead is Megan Fox (self explanatory)

And last, but certainly not least:

Let me remind you. The last co-production between Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures, that was ALSO an adaptation of a beloved children’s IP that was based around a group of teenage characters that was heavily themed around Asian-cultures, but inexplicably didn’t cast Asian actors for major roles was………..THE LAST [FUCKING] AIRBENDER!

Yeah, let that one sink in.

    • Marissa Evans

Dammit, you had to tell me that.

    • fechu1922

all the hope i had is lost… good job

    • Grendal Sven

I will accept bitching about white washing asian characters when Hollywood stops turning my superheros black.

      • ?

I’m pissed they made Batman black.

That’s just his cowl, that’s not his face.

    • fuckyou

SHUT THE FUCK UP u dumb CUNT with the crystal skull bashing FUCK YOU and eveyrone else who thinks there are RULES that indy movies cant have aliens and FUCK U with yer BAND WAGON HOPPING fridge bullshit you FAKE motherfuckers…if nolan did it u would SUCK HIS COCK u FAKE FUCKS u are ALL SHEEP BA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A

      • Kieren

Wow. Great takeaway from my comment, guy.

      • Grammar Hydra

You spelled “everyone” wrong. And “yer” should be “your”, which is a possessive, as the “band wagon hopping fridge bullshit” belongs to someone.

      • pickaname

Man. You really need some help, don’t you? Damn!

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

When you spell “bah” like that, and separate it with all the hyphens, it looks more like you’re trying to do an evil laugh, like ba-ah-ah-ah. Now I’m no sheep hoarder, but I don’t think sheep can do an evil laugh.

      • Snarky

I think you should watch the Kiwi horror film Black Sheep. ;)

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

Saw it, fun times, but they definitely did not do an evil laugh.

      • Snarky

I don’t know, some of those bleats were pretty sinister!

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

        Ewe know it.

      • The Bleats

        “Ewe”…heh. I gotcha ;)

      • the king of comedy

While I think you are a troll I didn`t mind the alines in the Indi movie that much, what really bothered me were some silly aspects such as surviving a nuclear explosion, or Shia becoming a monkey.

    • The Flobbit

Ouch. This movie is doomed to hell.

    • Hasdi Bravo

Dev Patel (Zuko) is Indian, and Indians are Asians you twit. Let’s not forget Jessica Andres (Suki) is Filipino. Yeah, she was cut from the movie. Where were you when we were bitching an Asian actress was robbed of a major opportunity to be in the spotlight. But go ahead with your self-righteous hateful rant and pretend you actually give a crap about equal opportunity in Hollywood.

  • Grendal Sven

They could have at least put the thing flat on a copier.

  • Anon

    >Joan of Arc.

Is she going to die then? Burnt on a stake?

  • Mezmero

It’s good to see people giving this a chance. If you at least do that the sequel will be worth it in the long run. It’s been years since we have seen the turtles on the big screen so I’m looking forward to this.

Wow, Megan Fox has some freaky long legs, or perhaps just one big one.

  • StanVan Shredder

    Shredder looks retarded

  • anders

I get it, they call him Shredder because his cape looks like a cheese grater

    • Matt Hardwick

That was the idea when the character was created, yes. They thought a villain with cheese graters on his arms would look cool.

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

At the time, they were correct. In the photos above? Not so much.

      • Matt Hardwick

You mad bro? He looks badass!

      • http://www.JustPressPlay.net Lex Walker

I’m sorry, you’re right, I completely overreacted with all my exclamation marks and capital letters. Clearly I’m very upset over this. Thanks for calling me out on my outburst in a public forum. Hopefully in the future I’ll come to realize that a clunky metal exoskeleton and silly looking metallic attachments are the definition of badass practicality.

      • Matt Hardwick

Yeah, because the Shredder’s never looked like that before. Right? Try reading the original comics or watching the 2003 cartoon, he’s fucking huge!

  • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

Properties like these I don’t mind when Bay decides to remake as they really are properties that were toy driven in the 80′s. Their backstories were created entirely to sell toys or altered to sell toys (Transformer & TMNT). I loved TMNT growing up but havent’ seen an episode since I was 11 so I finally caught one on tv and it was so bad and evironmentally preachy it was (that was actually a good + in my book) really hard to finish. If Bay wants to lend his flashiness to these dormant franchises then by all means I hope he does as it’ll lend itself to a new generation of kids that’ll enjoy the same material I did as kid.

    • Convoy

It hasn’t been dormant. There was a new show around 2005 or so, and there is a new show on Nick. One that I thought would suck at first, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. It’s currently on season 2. Give it a look see.
