August 15, 2013

Paramount Pictures has shifted the release date of director Jonathan Liebesman’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film.  Originally scheduled to hit theaters on June 6, 2014, the pic will now bow on August 8, 2014, where it will go head-to-head with the new Dracula film starring Luke Evans and the Helen Mirren-led drama The Hundred-Foot Journey.  The move is apparently to distance the release of Ninja Turtles—which will enjoy a heavy merchandising push—from Paramount’s other big toy franchise, Transformers.  Director Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 is currently scheduled to open in theaters on June 27th, but Deadline notes that this will probably be moved back to June 25th because the Transformers films have traditionally opened on a Wednesday.  As such, the studio wants to spread out its presumably toy-heavy releases.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, and William Fichtner, with Alan RitchsonPete PloszekJeremy Howard, and Noel Fisher playing the CG turtles and Danny Woodburn portraying Splinter.

  • OneConfusedGuy

Huh? Is this movie called Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or is there two separate movies?

  • João Paulo

One week after Guardians of the Galaxy, this is a bad idea.

  • Kale

Not only is it following Gaurdians of the Galaxy, butt it’s going to follow 50 shades of grey also.

    • Kale

I meant to say but it’s going to follow Fifty Shaded of grey also.

  • SceneIt

First of all, they changed the title to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles months ago, so no idea why you are so confused. Second, i have seen the concept art and the Turtles look amazing, as does Shredder. Can we please get over all the bad mouthing of this movie? Everyone who has complained about it will want to see this movie as soon as the first trailer drops…

    • No Youhavenot

Where, exactly, did you see the concept art? They have not released a single..er…shred of concept art.
Feel free to post a link Kreskin, or at the very least, identify yourself as a paid plant from the studio.

If the work was so incredible, they wouldn’t keep pushing the date back. August is the month of flops, where you stash a low testing film in order to leave better dates open for those that are tracking well.

The studio is scared, simple as that.

      • SceneIt

I work in Hollywood, let’s leave it at that. I am not a paid plant, whatever the hell that is. I have no reason to lie about what I have seen. Why in the world would I make up such a story? All I am saying that the stuff I have seen is cool and not the abomination most people think it is.

There is some truth to the month of August, but if you read the article again, they explain exactly why they pushed. In reality they could have needed more time for the tricky VFX in the movie (all the Turtles are fully CG), but the above reasoning makes sense as well. Why would they compete against their own movie (T4)? If you look at the rest of the summer, there are plenty more big releases to compete against. They got stuck in August because they gave up that early June date.

I don’t work for this movie and haven’t been a Turtles fan since I was a kid. I have no dog in this fight, just stating my thoughts. It’s not really fair for people to bitch and complain for over a year about a movie they know nothing about. I’m not calling you out on that, but the entire internet is filled with hate concerning this movie, yet no one knows anything about it. Anything they have heard is trumped up rumors created by the internet.

      • Try Again

Sure, I do to, but, those that are actually employed in Hollywood, rarely, if ever say “I work in Hollywood”. So, Again, you’ll forgive me if I don’t just “believe” you.

I am, in fact, calling you out. There isn’t just some truth to what I’ve said. It’s only mildly better than a Jan/Feb release, and you know that, if you do indeed work in Hollywood.

I am not commenting on the quality of the film, I’m commenting on the release date being pushed 4 times now.

For the record I’m a VFX artist. deadlines move, but not like this. They move because things go wrong.

And yes, companies are paid to post on these forums. Yes, often press articles posted on this very site are bought. Yes, my sister actually works for a company that does just that, to bolster the opinion online.

So again, where exactly did you see the concept art, how and why were you shown, and secondly, WHY should we take the opinion of someone who says “I don’t work for this movie and haven’t been a Turtles fan since I was a kid”?

What kind of credibility is that?

Since you have complete anonymity, why not spill?

What do they look like! (aside from “awesome.” as you’ve said”)

        Pony up, pony-boy.

      • SceneIt

Well, please correct my grammar than, Mr. Know It All. Should I have said I work in the industry? Howabout if I said I work in the Biz? I had no idea that there was an appropriate way to tell you that I work in the film business. Since you work in this business, you know that many people have access to the pre-production process.

The Turtle look like mutated turtle, but not like the cartoons or other movies. You want me to draw you a picture. Yea, this is anonymous, so for that matter, I don’t give a shit what you think. You make this out to be some conspiracy. Your sister actually has a job like that? Sounds like a pretty low level, shit job if you ask me.

Why don’t I tell you more about the film? That’s easy. As I learned working at Marvel for years, security always has ways of finding out who posts something. Remember how you have to include an email when you sign in to post? I signed NDA’s and it’s not worth getting sued a million dollars just to prove something to some unknown person on the internet. Why don’t you spill the beans on what ever movie you are currently working on?

        Pony-up douche bag.

      • What Ever

Ha! Well that clears things up. Call me any names you want, but you had no business saying anything in the first place if you are bound by an NDA. Feel free to get angry, really, that I asked for proof. Hey, I would have settled for conjecture…but instead you acted as though you knew something the rest of us did not, and could not. You wanna be the big shot, then have the goods.

And yes, my sister makes great money, you’d be surprised what studios are willing to pay for good word of mouth on the net. Then again, maybe you wouldn’t?
