Some big movies with some big stars have had their release dates shuffled around. Here they are at a glance:

Hit the jump for more on each of these movies.

Director Christopher McQuarrie’s (The Way of the Gun) adaptation of the Lee Child’s novel, One Shot stars Cruise as Jack Reacher, an ex-Army investigator who gets drawn into a mystery involving a sniper who has already murdered five people, apparently at random. Director Werner Herzog (Into the Abyss) will make a rare appearance in front of the camera as The Zec, the film’s villain. One Shot also stars Richard Jenkins as the district attorneyMichael Raymond-James (True Blood) as The Zec’s henchman,  Robert Duvall, Rosamund Pike as Reacher’s love interest, and David Oyelowo as a veteran homicide detective. Paramount must have faith in the picture, as it will open around the same time as Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.

Moving towards a summer release will be the Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) adaptation of World War Z, the popular zombie apocalypse novel by Max Brooks. Brad Pitt stars as a United Nations employee “who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.” The film also stars Anthony Mackie, Matthew Fox, Mireille Enos, and James Badge Dale. Get caught up on all of our previous coverage here.

Finally, fans of the classic franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be happy to see that the reboot of the feature films finally has a street date. Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman is in charge of direction; we’ll be able to judge his eye for action in his upcoming Wrath of the Titans. The live-action film has no specific plot or cast as of yet, but Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol writers, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec are on the case. Look to Christmas Day of 2013 to see the Turtles! [All release dates courtesy of Box Office Mojo.]

  1. I don’t care about One Shot.

World War Z being pushed back to the summer make me have high hopes.

A new Ninja Turtles live action film has me excited, regardless of when it comes out. Although Christmas day could mean a more family friendly film, which will leave me in a wait and see approach.

  2. If Jonathan Liesbman is indeed still the director of Ninja Turtles, I’m curious to see how ‘Wrath’ turns out.

While I didn’t like ‘Battle LA’, it was unoffensive enough that I could say it’s a rental at best. Not bad, but nothing great. But deep down, I’ve always thought that Jonathan has a unique vision that he’s barely now tapping into. It just took a few years, and a few bumps along away. If ‘Wrath’ indeed turns into a fun flick, then my hope for ‘TMNT’ will be risen. It doesn’t hurt that the writers are great though. ;0

  3. i just can’t believe HERZOG is really STARRING IN A MOVIE. he’s done Docs but this is a totally different deal. cinephiles will be watching.

i always felt he had the Bond villain-esque in him, but to actually cast him as a villain, McQuarrie deserves some kind of award for actually doing it AND CONVINCING HERZOG himself.

  4. PLease, please just totally cancel World War Z!

Really interested to see how they do the new Turtles tho, wether they go dark or go kiddy. I feel the latter has been tried and tested and its time to go dark :)

  5. World War Z’s fucked then, also, did I see running Zacks? Forgive me as it’s been a while since i read it but did WWZ have running Zombes?
