With next summer's Terminator: Genesis, the Terminator franchise is getting a reboot except for the one piece it can't seem to let go: Arnold Schwarzenegger.  He was even awkwardly shoehorned into Terminator: Salvation, and now he'll be along for the new installment even though all of the other major characters—Sarah Connor, John Connor, and Kyle Reese—are being playing by new actors.  Speaking to TheArnoldFans, Schwarzenegger said, "We start filming in the middle or in the end of April and it will be a four or four-and-a-half month long shoot. We will be filming it in New Orleans with some of it in San Francisco and maybe a little of it in LA but most of it will be done in New Orleans."

Here's the entirety of what Schwarzenegger had to tell TAF about Terminator: Genesis:

You start filming the new Terminator movie next month. Can you give us a tease of what to expect? Will your Terminator model be the same?

Schwarzenegger:  "The Terminator. You're right. We start filming in the middle or in the end of April and it will be a four or four-and-a-half month long shoot. We will be filming it in New Orleans with some of it in San Francisco and maybe a little of it in LA but most of it will be done in New Orleans. I'm really looking forward to that because as you know, the last time when they did the Terminator, it was when I was Governor and so I couldn't be in that movie but now I'm back again and they are very excited about having me in the film. And David Ellison, who has produced all the big movies lately, has plenty of money to do it well. He's in partnership with Paramount Pictures who are going to release the movie through their distribution. I'm really looking forward to that and it's going to come out on July 4th weekend in 2015. The movie preparation is going well. The script is fantastic so I'm really looking forward to this film."

As for the plot, Moviehole [via Empire] claims that the script will be along the lines of Back to the Future: Part II where the new movie will intersect with Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.  Empire provides the key points:

  • According to the source, the Genesis story bears comparison to Back To The Future 2, which you'll recall partly involves our heroes rushing ingeniously around and within the events of the first film.
  • In this case we're talking about revisiting the original Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, but the film will also have a third time period in the future.
  • The punks, the other Sarah Connors, the cops and Sarah's roommate Ginger will make reappearances from T1. From T2 we're apparently looking at the scene where Todd and Jenelle fall foul of the T1000, amongst unspecified others. There will also be flashback scenes of the young Sarah and her parents.
  • The reason for the revisiting is something to do with an alternate timeline, again recalling Back To The Future 2, as well as the recent Abrams Star Treks.

Even if this doesn't turn out to be the case, it still sounds like there's going to be some time-traveling headaches with an adult John Connor, a young Sarah Connor, and a decrepit Terminator.
