Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson Frontrunners for Sarah Connor Role in TERMINATOR Reboot

     December 4, 2013

The casting process continues on the upcoming Terminator reboot, and it appears that the search for Sarah Connor has now been whittled down to two actresses.  We previously reported that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street), and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) were among the actresses on the shortlist for the lead role of Sarah Connor, and now Deadline reports that the list has been narrowed down to Clarke and Larson.  Thor: The Dark World helmer Alan Taylor is onboard to direct, and the report notes that Clarke currently has the edge for the part.  Of course, Taylor has worked with Clarke before on Game of Thrones, having directed a number of episodes of the HBO series’ first and second season before landing the Marvel gig.

Hit the jump for more on the upcoming Terminator film.

brie-larson-terminatorWhile Clarke may top the list of contenders, Larson is currently fielding serious awards attention for her performance in this summer’s indie drama Short Term 12.  Deadline notes that Paramount and Taylor want to cast the Sarah Connor role before moving on to casting John Connor and Kyle Reese, but an earlier report noted that Tom Hardy was being eyed to play human resistance leader John Connor.  Plot details regarding the Terminator reboot are few and far between at this point, but the film is being spearheaded by Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures—the studio behind Zero Dark Thirty, American Hustle, and Her—so hopes are high for this new vision of the franchise.

With a July 1, 2015 release date looming, we should expect to hear firm casting on the Sarah Connor front very soon.  Taylor is no doubt planning on starting production sometime next summer.

I’m not the biggest Brie Larson fan, though she’s certainly talented, but I actually think she’d make a great Sarah Connor.

That’s a tough choice, I’ve seen them both, but I pick Miss Clarke, yeah, I’ve thought it through. She has shown a lot of emotions and reactions to convince me of it, she’s just so enjoyable andl ikeable on screen, she has something…

What about the girl in those Lars Von trier movies
She has that kind of “I ain’t playing” face
I could see her as a tough woman
Edit : her name is Charlotte Gainsbourg

    • Ben Wigler

Charlotte Gainsbourg would mutilate her own genitals before appearing in a Terminator movie.

Lars Von Trier will call her for his next movie: The SexTerminator.
        She will play Sarah Cunnor

  • The Flobbit

I like Clarke, but definitely go Brie Larson here.

  • axalon

Clarke probably has the closest resemblance / demeanor to Linda Hamilton

  • Jeremy D

Can’t go wrong with either, but I personally favor Clarke.

  • Idris Elba

Idris Elba should be Sarah Connor.

      you are mad. ^^

      • Idris Elba

Idris Elba loves you for you honesty. Idris Elba thinks you might be a good candidate for John Connor.

This never gets old. Ever. ;)

first thing first neither of the 2 are even close to good enough compared to Linda Hamilton.
But definitely Emilia Clarke gets my vote over Brie Larson…every single time.

    • Ned Flander

Linda Hamilton is a boring old biddy.

      • Shawn Gordon

Linda Hamilton would be over rated if more people thought she was a good actress, but very few do. I give the edge to Emilia Clarke, she’s beautiful and has talent, two things Hamilton always lacked

  • Carlos.

Wow, really hard to pick one, but Clarke wins my vote. She’s mother to three friggin’ dragons, for Christ sake.

  • Christian Grey

Brie Larson all the way.. or even better … how about Steve Buscemi …

hope has become lost on this for me. terrible choice on either, way too young to look motherly. is this going to be the preppy pretty terminator reboot staring 20 somethings? gag. way to pre fail a franchise. they need a mature kick a* actress mid 30 or 40 something that looks suburban motherly like lena hadely and linda hamilton were not beauty queen dropouts. no lucy lawless lookalikes in hollywood? this reboot is going to be a complete fail if they dont put back in completely brad fidels score wich removal of helped tank the original franchise along with most franchises that tank after removing music or actors. T3 and T4 might have been loads better with fidels pulse driving techno score back in the franchise completely. look how good bond is now with barrys score partialy back in skyfall/the bond franchise.

Has Ahhnold actually signed on for this movie?

    Clarke all the way.
