First Photos from Steven Spielberg’s Time Travel TV Series TERRA NOVA

     January 6, 2011

Though a canceled Comic-Con panel for Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova stirred the pot of skepticism, we now have our first official look at Steven Spielberg’s time travel and dinosaur filled TV series Terra Nova. There’s guns being fired and a general sense of danger and adventure featuring Jason O’Mara as Jim Shannon trying to protect the rest of his family who have found themselves traveling back in time to a paradisiacal era where dinosaurs roam the Earth. Obviously, this isn’t a Land of the Lost scenario though since there are clearly military forces somehow involved, but you can see that for yourself in the pictures below along with the official synopsis just to refresh your mind.  Hit the jump for the synopsis and pics:

Hopefully we’ll get our first look at Avatar villain Stephen Lang sometime in the near future since Terra Nova is set to have a sneak preview in May followed by the official series premiere later this fall. But for now here are the four new photos from Terra Nova courtesy of Spoiler TV.

Official Synopsis: The series centers on the Shannon family as they join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to TERRA NOVA, the first colony of humans in this second chance for civilization. JIM SHANNON (O’Mara), a devoted father with a checkered past, guides his family – wife ELISABETH and children JOSH and MADDY – through this new land of limitless beauty, mystery and terror. In addition to blue skies, rolling rivers and lush vegetation, TERRA NOVA offers new opportunities and fresh beginnings to its recent arrivals, but the Shannons have brought with them a famial secret that may threaten their citizenship in this utopia. These adventurers soon discover that this healthy, vibrant world is not as idyllic as it initially appears. The areas surrounding TERRA NOVA are filled with dangerous dinosaurs and other prehistoric threats, as well as external forces that may be intent on destroying this new world before it begins.

Looks interesting, next winters tv looks promising. But, i do hope the FX work is more Jurassic Park than the awful Primeval!!! That has ugly cgi in it, which is odd considering Jurassic Park looks flawless and is about 15 years older.

And why is it that when cgi creatures are wet or in rain they look real, but soon as theyre dry they look fake. Even the Hulk, dragonheart etc. Weird, but true.

That’s because to get computer elements to look good, it takes around a one-hundred million dollar budget to get those elements looking that good. Nothing looking that good ever costs less, and so for TV to pull off that kind of a budget, per episode mind you, would just be way too much.

why do future soldiers always dawn plastic body armor & shoulder pads? I can’t specifically say why but this level of stupid shit does irk me. And by extension why are we using guns that look like they were manufactured by Mattel. I understand gun companies want money to use their product but its one of those things where if you want to sell your product as this piece of exaggerated science fiction, when you go cheep on these smaller aspects they just become glaring.

Anyway, I will say what were seeing isn’t impressive at all, in fact there are smaller bits that really show signs of doom. But who knows at this early stage.

What I can almost guarantee will irritate me is that inspite of the fact that those are obviously Marine cammies, (with what appear to be rubber boots) they will invariably be called “soldiers” throughout the series. Because most people apparently don’t know the difference. As a former Marine, it’s a pet peeve, not all military personnel are soldiers, only the Army.

Oh, and the military will probably end up getting constantly outsmarted by the civilians or need them to save their butts on a regular basis…. Pfft.

this show will bomb. Anything Brannon Braga touches always does.

Why does everybody call this Spielberg’s Terra Nova? He didn’t create it. On the list of executive producers on IMDB, his name appears dead last.

They just can’t make a show without tons of guns. I loved “Lost” but eventually the show just centered around guns; it gets so tiring. I feel that this will be gun-heavy as well.

I’ve been browsing online more than 3 hours nowadays, but I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It?s beautiful price enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made just right content as you probably did, the net will probably be much more useful than ever before.
