Fox Releases Trailers for All Their New Series Including TERRA NOVA, NEW GIRL, ALLEN GREGORY and J.J. Abrams’ ALCATRAZ

     May 16, 2011

Hot off the heels of NBC releasing full trailers for their new slate of series set to debut next season, Fox has unveiled trailers for their new series. All in all, the most promising pilots based on the trailers seem to be Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi series Terra Nova and the Zooey Deschanel-fronted comedy New Girl (if only because of the inordinate amount of cuteness that Deschanel brings to every scene).

On the other hand, the Jamie Pressly-starred sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter looks painfully unfunny, and Napoleon Dynamite is simply a re-tread of territory that’s completely outdated. J.J. Abrams’ Alcatraz looks promising, but its similarities to NBC’s contrived (and now cancelled) The Event give me a bit of pause. Judge for yourself after the jump with the trailers for these series plus Jonah Hill’s animated show Allen Gregory and the Bones spinoff The Finder.

Terra Nova

Epic family adventure series TERRA NOVA, executive-produced by Steven Spielberg (“Saving Private Ryan,” “Jurassic Park”), Peter Chernin, René Echevarria (“Castle,” “The 4400”) and Brannon Braga (“24”) and starring Jason O’Mara (“Life On Mars”) and Stephen Lang (“Avatar”), premieres in the fall. The ambitious series follows an ordinary family on an extraordinary journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a daring experiment to save the human race.

From executive producer J.J. Abrams (“Lost,” “Star Trek”) and writer Elizabeth Sarnoff (“Lost”) and starring Sarah Jones (“Sons of Anarchy”), Jorge Garcia (“Lost”) and Sam Neill (“Jurassic Park”), ALCATRAZ is the chilling new thriller centered on America’s most infamous prison and the mysterious return of its most notorious criminals.

New Girl

Created by Liz Meriwether (“No Strings Attached”), NEW GIRL (wt) is a new single-camera ensemble comedy starring Zooey Deschanel (“(500) Days of Summer”) as Jess, an offbeat girl who – after a bad breakup – moves in with three single guys and essentially sets a bomb off in their lives.

Allen Gregory

Created by and featuring the voice of Jonah Hill (“Get Him to the Greek,” “Superbad”), ALLEN GREGORY is the story of an extremely pretentious 7-year-old about to embark on his greatest challenge yet: leaving the safety of homeschooling and attending elementary school with children his own age.

The Finder

Created by Hart Hanson, the executive producer and creator of BONES, THE FINDER is a new procedural drama starring Geoff Stults (“She’s Out of My League”) as an Iraq war vet with an extraordinary ability to help people find the unfindable.

Napoleon Dynamite

Based on the hit cult classic and featuring the voices of the film’s original cast, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE follows the continuing adventures of America’s most awesomely awkward teenager and his quirky family and friends as they navigate life in rural Idaho.

I Hate My Teenage Daughter

New multi-camera family comedy I HATE MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER (wt) stars Emmy Award winner Jaime Pressly (“My Name Is Earl”) and Tony Award winner Katie Finneran (“Wonderfalls”) as single moms, life-long friends – and former nerds – who fear their privileged and overly indulged daughters are turning out to be just like the girls who picked on them in high school.

Alcatraz looks like it could be a good show, if only because it has Hurley back on an Island. Plus I never watched The Event, so this looks pretty compelling to me.

New Girl looks like one of the shows I would convince my girlfriend to watch so I could watch Zooey Deschanel, and it doesn’t look too bad.

I’m kind of split on Allen Gregory.. I love Jonah Hill, but his voice is way too distinct, all I picture is Jonah sitting in a booth recording, I can’t even think about him being a kid lol. Plus French Stewart, where the hell has he been? But anything that doesn’t have Seth Macfarlene speaking or producing is good these days.

So far these look more promising than NBC and CBS’ new stuff.

I’ve been hoping for a dinosaur series for a long time so I’m excited for Terra Nova, it looks promising.
After the endings of Alias and Lost I’m more than a little wary of J. J. Abrams but I’ll probably be suckered into Alcatraz.

i hate my teenage daughter seems to be the next ’til death. too bad. i will watch it but only because of my huge crush on jaime pressly.

Alcatraz: it’s not about the mistery, but the journey. Wait! Wasn’t it Lost?

Cant wait for Terra Nova and Napoleon Dynamite

I wanted to watch Terra Nova, but I worry about all these complaints about not having enough time.
It sounds like BS to me.
If Primeval can come back from cancellation and put out series four and five in one year, surely Terra Nova can get this show on the road and stop pushing it back.

Can’t watch another show with a 20 yr old blonde girl basically in charge. She will never shut up I am sure. Women don’t know how to play men. ,They always overdo the macho stuff ( they say they hate)and are basically the smartist person on the show. Sick of it. How can one suspend disbelief with this scenario? Can’t Its done before starting. Get the feminist out of hollwood their shows are for kids.
