Jamie Dornan is getting loads of attention with the release of Fifty Shades of Grey coming up, but he’s also got another project well worth keeping an eye on, The 9th Life of Louis Drax. The film features Aiden Longworth as the title character, a boy who falls from a cliff in San Francisco and winds up in a coma. Dornan steps in as Doctor Allan Pascal, a neurologist who uses a special technology to try to figure out who’s responsible for Louis’ current condition. The film also stars Aaron Paul as the prime suspect, Louis’ father.
The 9th Life of Louis Drax is directed by Alexandre Aja and the script was actually written by one of Aja’s Horns stars, Max Minghella. While working on Horns, the two discussed the projects they wanted to pursue next and without even knowing it, Aja told Minghella about an idea he had that was very similar to The 9th Life of Louis Drax, a script Minghella had finished. Here’s what Aja told EW about the coincidence:
“The more we were talking about [what I wanted to do next], the more I was seeing him smiling, like, ‘This is exactly what I’m working on.’”
Aja also dubbed the tone of the film slightly Hitchcockian and offered up some additional details regarding Dornan’s character:
“He’s playing this leading male who is torn between his feelings for Louis’ mother and a desire to shine the light on something that is dark and scary. It’s definitely something he’s never done before.”
Want to know more about the film? Steve actually got the opportunity to visit the set and will post a preview of the experience early next week along with some exclusive video. For now, check out the official synopsis of the film and the very first The 9th Life of Louis Drax image:
The 9th Life of Louis Drax begins on Louis Drax’s (Longworth) 9th birthday, when he miraculously survives a near fatal fall. His doctor Allan Pascal (Dornan) finds himself tangled between his professional responsibility and his growing affections for the boy’s mother (Gadon), a fragile young beauty. When Louis’ father (Paul) comes under suspicion, Pascal realizes other mysterious forces may be at work.
