Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the action-thriller The Accountant.  Warrior helmer Gavin O’Connor directs and Ben Affleck stars in the action-thriller about a mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as a lethal assassin. That logline is a tad misleading, however, as this trailer reveals that Affleck's character is on the spectrum, as they say. The debut trailer actually begins more like a superhero origin story than an assassin movie, but the film looks to offer Affleck the chance to put a unique spin on the action hero trope, with Anna Kendrick at his side to boot.

After Affleck wrapped Batman v Superman, everyone assumed he'd turn his attention to finally directing Live by Night, but he pushed that directorial effort back for a third time so he could take the starring role in The Accountant. Clearly he saw something in the project and/or Bill Dubuque's (The Judge) screenplay that made the film worthwhile, and while this is very much a teaser trailer, I'm curious to see more from the film.

Check out the trailer below. The film also stars J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, and John LithgowThe Accountant opens in theaters on October 14th.

Here's the official synopsis for The Accountant:

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.
