Universal has released the first trailer for director George Nolfi’s thriller The Adjustment Bureau. While this might be Nolfi’s first time in the director’s chair, he’s written Oceans Twelve, Timeline, and The Bourne Ultimatum, so he clearly knows his way around a movie set and how to tell a story.
Starring Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Anthony Mackie, John Slattery, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Michael Kelly and Terence Stamp, The Adjustment Bureau is based on the Short Story “The Adjustment Team” by Philip K. Dick (Total Recall, Minority Report, Blade Runner). The film is about whether or not we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us.
If you’re a fan of sci-fi, Matt Damon, or Philip K. Dick, you’re going to like the look of this trailer. Hit the jump to take a look:
Synopsis:
Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us? Matt Damon stars in the thriller The Adjustment Bureau as a man who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue the only woman he’s ever loved across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York.
On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt)—a woman like none he’s ever known. But just as he realizes he’s falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart.
David learns he is up against the agents of Fate itself—the men of The Adjustment Bureau—who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together. In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path…or risk everything to defy Fate and be with her.
The Adjustment Bureau is written for the screen and directed by George Nolfi (writer of Ocean’s Twelve, co-writer of The Bourne Ultimatum). It is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick (“Total Recall,” “Minority Report” and “Blade Runner”).

Man, John Murphy's “Kanada's Death Part II” (from Sunshine) is showing up everywhere nowadays. First in Kick Ass (used remarkably well, too) and now as the music for The Adjustment Bureau's trailer.
Inception Jr.? Jk Jk.
I'm in. I kinda didn't buy the Bureau guys but it sounds like a cool premise.
I'll see it because it is Dick (great writer – more of his work should be making it on to the screen). I think it is weird that they don't reference him in the trailer – did I miss it or was the obvious “from the author of…” missing?
I'm sure there is a point to it, but Damon running around in a hat looks off. I feel like Lost has drained the free will v. fate theme for the time being. One thing is certain, Damon's PK Dick movie is going to be better than Affleck's.
Whatever
What makes you say Damon's pic will be better than Affleck's? There hasn't even been an official trailer released for “The Town” yet. Have you seen his movie or is this just your personal opinion based on nothing?
I'm pretty sure he was talking about the movie Paycheck, which was also a PK Dick adaptation, staring Affleck.
Is it just me or do those guys resemble the Observers on FRINGE. Convergent evolution or just downright biting?
i love Matt Damon and i love everything he does, i can't wait!
